Left 4 Dead 'The Sacrifice' DLC Coming October 5th

Richard Walker

'The Sacrifice' is coming to both Left 4 Dead 1&2 next week and is a prequel to Left 4 Dead 2's 'The Passing' DLC, which is currently on the XBL Marketplace for 560 MS Points.

Telling a new story from the perspective of the survivors as they all journey South, The Sacrifice's big draw is the introduction of a new 'sacrificial gameplay' finale, which places the decision of who croaks and who survives in your hands.

The Sacrifice is available as separate downloads for both Left 4 Dead titles. In the Left 4 Dead 1 version, you'll get the full The Sacrifice campaign with maps playable in Campaign, Versus and Survival. Meanwhile, the Left 4 Dead 2 version lets you play through The Sacrifice campaign with the Left 4 Dead survivors and also gives you L4D's No Mercy campaign for Left 4 Dead 2.

Both The Sacrifice and No Mercy are playable in Left 4 Dead 2's Campaign, Versus, Survival and Scavenge, and feature L4D2's Special Infected, items and weapons. Bill, Zoey, Louis and Francis with chainsaws, axes and frying pans?! Yes, please!

The Sacrifice will be available from October 5th on the Xbox Live Marketplace for 560 Microsoft Points.

  • More Left 4 Dead is always a good thing!!! Anyone no about achievements???
  • AWESOME CANT WAIT
  • About time!
  • Meant to say KNOW about achievements....
  • awesome, I need to invest in some M$P
  • nice !!!! i need MS points
  • Achievements?
  • grrreat news!
  • so does that mean that if you have both games 1 and 2 you get to play both version..or does it mean you have to buy the DLC twice???
  • This is awesome. Now to get me some MS points!
  • Where are the achievements? Come on Valve you gotta work for my money.
  • cool more zombies to kill
  • I forgot ALL about this DLC!!! hahaha
  • I'll be getting it for free on the PC (=D). But will proberly get it on box just so I can play No Mercy split screen with my mate just like the old days =D
  • Wait wuh? So I'd have to buy two versions? I'm confused on the whole thing.
  • So you need to buy twice, and get cheevos for both games?
  • "The Sacrifice is available as separate downloads for both Left 4 Dead titles." This is really making it sound like it's actually two individual payable downloads. Which at the price of 560 each, would make players who have both games pretty disappointed... :(
  • @17 I believe it is two seperate downloads, if you want to play it on both games you will need to download both versions
  • Damn so they are gonna be separate downloads? man! that blows! but ill get both if they both have achivements and bring them up to 1500K each =] Ill have to rent them both though as i sold my copies before knowing this.. sucks cuz i just shipped left 4 dead 2 off to someone last week =/
  • wait...i dont get it....does that mean that there will be different achievements added to each version?...because they both sound different.
  • if it has achievements, MINE.
  • It looks like 2 sep. DLs but it also looks like everything included in L4D1's package is accounted for in the L4D2 package, so nobody's doing without. They just made it available to those who only have the first, since there were people that wouldn't touch the second solely based on it coming out a year later. If there are achievements, you know they'll be good. L4D's achievements are some of the funnest I've gone for, and they've always been hard but doable, with the exception of the buggy Crash Course.
  • So wait, the L4D2 'The Sacrifice' allows you to play as the original survivors, with the new special infected, weapons, etc., and the only thing on L4D1's 'The Sacrifice' is just the campaign, correct? I want to be sure I understand this properly. Thanks.
  • My most logical approach to this is that by downloading the DLC, which can be found in either L4D1 or L4D2's game downloads, you can play it on L4D1 and 2. Then you would get achievements for just one. But that doesn't seem like it's the case. Maybe Mr. Walker made a hasty decision with the word "separately?" OR maybe it's like Dead Rising 2: Case Zero and you can choose to play it on one or the other's networks? I dunno if all that can even be done. But IMO if you have to buy it twice then that's bull. Maybe once you buy one you will get a code for the other?
  • I love the posters for the campaigns best is still got to be No Mercy or that Lighthouse survival map. Can't wait to get Francis killed!
  • If they're sold separately lets hope they do a bundle for less than 14 clams.
  • Why we have to pay for Left 4 Dead DLC on 360 when on PC it's free? Don't tell me it's only because of Microsoft royalties because 7$US its way over the price to put content on 360 servers. Now, if we have to pay twice for nearly the same DLC, I'll pass for sure.
  • Cheevos will likely be revealed on their blog shortly before release, much like "The Passing," those which were revealed three days before.
  • Luis and Zoey look strange, but still looking forward to play it.
  • How much does it cost on Xbox? How much does it cost on PC?
  • Two words. Awwwwwwwwwwwww Yeaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh. More words. Cannot wait, love L4D, have L4D1 + 2 still. Just yes.
  • OMG this meens 8 playable surviverz right?
  • Can't wait!!
  • sweet it shall be awesome
  • Hmm... which one to choose? Well, we'll see what my friends lend towards, but at the moment, I'll probably go for the L4D2 version.
  • *lean, not lend. Sorry for double post :(
  • That poster hit pretty deep since Bill was my favorite character, therefore I always played him. Guess I'm going to face my fate and god am I hyped!
  • Sounds to me like you will have to buy them separately. One for L4D1 and one for L4D2. Which means they will probably have achievements for both. So you can play the same campaign one both different games and get the achieves for both. Not bad at all. Plus I bet Zoey and Ellis hook up.
  • So, download it on L4D1 or fork out £12 for L4D2 (new) and download it? Or, wait for L4D2 GOTY? Hmmmmmm. Might just play DR2 instead.
  • the dlc is for both games and you only have buy it once
  • Epic. too much stuff coming out though! still playing halo on legendary, claptraps robot revoultion, medal of honour, fable 3 and CoD...when will this onslaught end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • It seems to me that they would just make the DLC work with both games...but put out new updates for each title that would add achievements. That seems like that is all it would take...not 2 separate purchases.
  • there is one dlc that is used to play both games TA had a article from valve stating everything and there is no word of achieves for this dlc
  • Stop releasing awesome DLC every time I get paid damn you valve!
  • think the l4d2 one will be the better deal for the price....and that poster is awesome
  • It's not that hard to understand guys... Theres "The Sacrifice" for L4D2, and theres a "The Sacrifice" for L4D1. Both are 560 MS Points. There is one for each version, and both have achievements. It wouldnt suprise me if L4D2 had a few different achievements, or maybe even more, since it includes "Np Mercy".
  • @24 - Nope. Separately was the exact word used in the press release from Valve. I think the basic idea is that Left 4 Dead 1 owners can buy the DLC without having to buy Left 4 Dead 2, while Left 4 Dead 2 owners get the better deal with an enhanced No Mercy campaign. So, L4D1 players aren't left out and L4D2 players can have the same Sacrifice campaign with the added bonus of No Mercy with L4D2 weapons. Make sense? I flippin' hope it does! :p
  • Sorry, but no achievements, no sale.
  • Wow, I will get this for L4D as I did not get around to buying second installment yet:-
  • @43 You got a link to that article?
  • Go figure - I just sold both L4Ds two days ago! HA!
  • what??! god damn with all this gaming goodness atm! Borderlands dlc tomorrow! AAAAaaargh!
  • So will both versions have achievements? If so, I'm getting them both. :D
  • I'm. A lilttle confused, do I need both dlcs?
  • Haha, have to agree with #52 As for this DLC, yeah, I'm glad it's here, but at the same time I'll be a little pissed off if each version has seperate achievements. To me that'll just feel like total greed, they can stick their excuse of it being so that everybody can get it. I'm still not too pleased with Valve after E3 tbh where Gabe Newell came on at the Sony conference and practically felated the PS3 and it's fanboys after he went on about his dislike for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Xbox fanboy and I get that he done it for sales, but I don't like the scale on which he went back on his words.
  • its 560 Microsoft Points each and free to all PC gamers
  • ^ ^ Cry moar
  • There are 5 new achievements
  • Ha! I was just thinking about this DLC and trying to remember its name on the train today. Good to see its coming soon. Love L4D!
  • Stopped caring after the massive waits between dlcs.
  • So I'm pretty sure that if you buy the L4D2 version, it is backwards compatible with L4D1. But does anyone know if works the other way around? I haven't heard anyone say anything about that so far. And yeah, PC gamers get Valve stuff for free. Valve is so good to ALL gamers overall though. It's just that M$ is such douchers, only allowing one free DLC for every 2 DLC packs. That's why Orange Box still doesn't have DLC. I'm still holding out on that though. Valve will pull through. One day...
  • Available October 5th, what's that in Valve Time ? looool
  • L4D1 > L4D2
  • So... I have to buy both versions correct...? It's kinda confusing.
  • Awesome! I've got left 4 dead 1 on my 360 and left 4 dead 2 on my pc. Can't wait to try out both versions. Oh yeah, and pc version is free!!!
  • more dlc for left 4 dead? hell yeah!
  • @55: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Yeah, because Valve SOOOOO greedy. And yes, you are an Xbox fanboy, don't deny it.
  • ^ Agreed
  • Fuck, I'm 40 MS points short *slams fist* /rages
  • Hell yeah! I got to go buy some MS points! Can't wait to get Louis killed!
  • anyone know if they finally got bills voice actor back yet
  • Here is info I am piecing together. What I really want to know is will L4D1 players be able to play with L4D2 players? From USA Today: 'Left 4 Dead' DLC arriving October 5 The poster for 'Left 4 Dead' DLC called 'The Sacrifice.' CAPTION Valve Software Left 4 Dead fans will find out how survivor Bill was killed during the zombie apocalypse through a fresh download arriving next week. Developers Valve Software announced "The Sacrifice" will be available for both the original Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 on October 5. For the players who prefer to keep Bill alive at the end of the DLC campaign, "The Sacrifice" will feature a finale with "Sacrificial Gameplay." The twist lets players choose which survivor is slain at the end. In the first Left 4 Dead, players will get the campaign DLC and use the maps in the Versus and Survival modes. Left 4 Dead 2 owners will gain access to all Sacrifice maps across all the game's modes, and be able to play the campaign with the franchise's original survivors. Also, owners will get the "No Mercy" campaign from the first game, which will feature Infected enemies, items and weapons from Left 4 Dead 2. "The Sacrifice" will sell for $7 on Xbox Live, but will be free to PC players. Gamepro.com: UPDATE: A representative from Valve has cleared up the dual-game nature of the download. The two DLC packages will be sold separately, meaning Xbox 360 owners who want to add the content from "The Sacrifice" to both games will have to pay $14. However, the representative also added that the DLC will be adding Achievements to both games.
  • YES! HELL YES! I'll buy it for both, why the hell not. More Achievements = my addiction satisfied :P
  • Wow, 560 MSP thats worth it.
  • Gonna be such win. Glad the poster is so much better than the pAssing's was, too.
  • Holy shit, just to see that campaign poster its worth it. I cannot wait for this. L4D2 is my favorite game on the xbox and bill is the most awesome character ever. This is a day 1, skip class purchase.
  • "The Sacrifice" will be available as two separate packages on Xbox Live for 560 Microsoft Points each and free to all PC gamers. -Official Left 4 Dead Blog Hope you guys saved up some points.
  • Been looking forward to this for a long time now, given that its about 6 months late, id almost given up hope of it ever seeing the light of day. 2 left 4 deads both at 1500g will be sweet
  • Everyone keeps repeating themselves: 1st guy "So wait, what does this mean?" 2nd guy "Here's a quote that I'm going to post directly into the comments space instead of paraphrasing or providing a link" 3rd guy "So wait...what's this mean?" Should please a lot of folks who have been wanting to use the original cast in L4D2, either because they were just genuinely more attached to the previous crew, or (in my experience) they're racist and are tired of having "so many black people" in one game, or a "black chick" in any game...I wish I was joking.
  • Can't wait to play this. I'm going to get the L4D2 one though. Since that means it ups the map count to 8 when you count No Mercy. No Mercy with the new special infected and weapons I would assume! I'm so excited.
  • Each has 5 achievements. Not that the number is important, but they revealed it on their blog
  • god awful repeatative shite go away left for dead
  • This is good, apart from the fact that both DLC are 560 each, they should make them 400 each, and then that means both are 800 altogether. Are if you buy one you get 50% of the other!
  • a quick look at the left4dead blog tells you there will be 5 new achievements
  • Awesome! and I agree with #83but can't wait for this! I'ma get me both! PEELZ HERE!
  • YESSSSSS! CAN'T WAIT!
  • Valve..... the only developer willing to give you value for money!! A definate buy.
  • So Happy They Got Jim French Back, If No Ones Heard It Yet, Theres A New Bill Sound Clip On Youtube Where He Is Saying "SHUT UP YOU GOD DAMN BIRDS!" The Sacrifice Just Got 10 Times More Awesome ;D
  • This is great an' all, but what I don't understand is people who wanna get both and are complainin' about it. Simple answer - don't! Get it for L4D2. You're getting the same thing, but you'll get an extra campaign if you get it for L4D2. I don't see the fuss.
  • Funny how many people are saying "if i HAVE to buy it twice PASS" lol. there not being forced to buy it twice. me personally am gonna buy the l4d 2 version then a month or so down the line (or wait for DOTW) ill get it on 1. i wanna know is if we get it on 1 will it only be original infected and no melee. cause if so it will be a pretty different experience. i cant wait for this . and its cheap as chips. people arent being forced to buy it twice. so stop complaining. plus the fact crash course and the passing were 1 campaign and each was 560 points and you never complained. now were getting 1 for 560 again and your bitching that if you dont get them for each version its a no deal. (plus the fact its 2 campaigns we get on L4D 2.)
  • yeah, but hopefully he fixed the problems L4D1 no mercy had from the start
  • Ahaha all you whining about paying for DLC... play it on PC, it's a free download ;)
  • It's not everyone who got a good PC u know...
  • Im pissed with valve. They promised this DLC for us "A month or so after the passing" ITs been about 5-6 months now valve! Still gonna buy it though..... Just pissed off with all the waiting :@
  • rather have achievements but got no prob buying it if its good but i gotta buy it for both at 7 $ a piece idk
  • Special Charecter too... Insread of Releasing or even making another part to the Half Life Series there going to have spcial charecters Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance..and rumored G-Man as a special infected
  • i cant wait for this!!
  • You should at least get a discount if you buy both.
  • I didn't like Left 4 Dead 2 as much as the first. I bought it and have yet to even beat all the campaigns. I would like the chance to play as the original survivors again though and this is a great value so I may buy it to get back into the game.
  • well this was a little confusing but i think i got it lol
  • Definately both! Thr cheevz im sure will be different. This is the reason i still have a copy of both and a MSP card in my drawer. Its a bonus that its on 2 formats
  • @101: The achievements are exactly the same, actually. They're both up for download, now!
  • No matter how much I love Left 4 Dead 1&2 but this sucks! Why paying twice for the same shit? Next thing is, they start selling achievements for money! Greedy bastards....
  • buying this twice is bullshit.
  • how can i download it and from where ?
