Complete Deathstroke without failing a single counter

  • How to unlock Point Counter-Point

    WARNING: MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT

Early on in the story, you will need to fight against Deathstroke while aboard Penguin's ship, The Final Offer. Deathstroke is much more agile and aggressive than regular enemies, so be prepared for a mildly difficult encounter. There are three "phases" to this fight and each phase becomes progressively more troublesome in terms of countering his moves. You can chose to play it safe by simply just countering his attacks during the entire fight, or try to be quick and aggressive by getting in some punches after each counter.

During the first phase, he performs the same two animations with his staff so be ready to counter these attacks by tapping the at the appropriate time. If you tap it too early or late, or hold it down as he attacks, you will get hit and void the achievement. If this does happen at any time during the fight, just pause your game and select "Restart" in order to begin the fight again.

Once you have knocked off two bars from his health meter, there will be a short animation requiring further counters and beatdowns through QTEs. After this sequence, which initiates the second phase, he will perform different attack animations which will require you to counter his moves twice now. After breaking his staff and entering the third and final phase of this fight, his attacks will require you to counter three times now, so be extra alert when he lunges at you with his sword.

This entire fight will only take about 4 minutes, but keep in mind that it may take several attempts before doing it perfectly. Either way, once you have reduced his health bar to a mere two bars, a cutscene will begin and the achievement will unlock.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEgLEBsi7uo You will fight against Deathstroke during a story mission, relatively early in the game. Everytime he attacks, you must press Y to counter. Also attack Deathstroke with Batman's normal strike. Doing so might initiate a QTE where you need to press the counter-button when it's displayed on the screen. If you press the button too early, or too late, your counter attack will fail and you will get hit. In case you are being hit, pause the game and choose "restart". The entire fight will start from the beginning and you can try again.
  • So not worth 10G Ridiculously difficult -.-
  • ridiculously difficult on NORMAL. shouldve been worth at least 50G
  • I gave up after 3 hours. Total underewarded cheevo ever.
  • got this on my first try playing on hard setting
  • Took me a few tries, but once you get the timing down and learn to stay patient, it's not that bad.
  • I am just going to replay all the boss missions on easy if this is how difficult the boss achievements are... .-.
  • This is probably the hardest achievement in the game and yet it's only worth 10g. Devs must've really thought this through.
  • Finally got it after 2 hours. The way I did it was stay a good distance away from him and use your grappling hook then when he's staggering towards you after you pull him, simply attack and you'll deck him in the chest for 1/2-1 health bar. Then just A-A away from him and repeat.
  • @9 Thank you for this. After being frustrated with trying to do the fight normally, I got it using your method on my second try.
  • If by any chance i missed it i have to replay the campaing again to get it????
  • Yeah, I won't be getting this at all, I didn't know about it until after I'd beaten him and it wasn't a remotely fun fight, took far too long, really horrible. A small black mark on an otherwise great game so far.
  • #9's technique is good, but regardless, Deathstroke will initiate several QTE's with you that must be done. The one you really should be happy seeing is where you have to spam Y to counter and then X for the beatdown as it does a lot of damage to him. Sometimes he gets upset I guess and starts dodging everything constantly, so you will need to toss a batarang at him, and as he is dodging, then use the batclaw. Just be careful of the QTE where you have to hit Y at the right moment 3 times. The remote claw barrel counter one is easy.
  • I'm still confused to what this actually is. Hopefully I wil lget a response but if not I am not going to wait until tomorrow to play. What does it mean by fail a counter? Does that simply mean hit Y when im supposed to? Or does it essentially mean the fight has to be PERFECT? Meaning am I supposed to counter THEN hit him or something? To just hit Y when im supposed to sounds easy but you guys are saying its hard so it has to be more than that. Not like I can trial and error because I imagine if I beat him it will immediately save.
  • Holy crap guys this is actually really easy. I got it on my first legitimate attempt once I understood what needed to be done. Im guessing people are being very aggresive and thats why they have trouble? All I did was let him attack and counter him then punch him once TWO TIMES MAX. Doing that eventually you get him down...using this method I beat him in a little over 10 minutes. The strategy never changes the entire fight...you just have to stay calm. It gets a little nervous at the end because he will initiate this move that requires you to counter him 3 quick times but even that is fairly easy. Just be patient and calm and its actually VERY easy.
  • You don't even need to counter him on normal attacks; you can just evade. The counters that count for the achievement are the QTE unavoidable ones.
  • Now if you get hit by a regular attack from him that could have been countered, would that void the achievement is a good question. Not sure but to be safe, don't ever get hit.
  • Come on Guys! This really isn't that hard. After a corrupted save file I had to go back and play this boss again. If I can get it while completely stoned on my second attempt then its obviously not too hard.
  • Hahaha being stone gives you that psychic advantage.
  • this achievement SUCKS. playing on easy waiting to attack AFTER he attacks and always gets screwed with a cheap shot
  • It seems you cannot be hit by him at all. I completed the fight with only once being hit by Deathstroke (without being a cinematic sequence counter opportunity) and did not get the achievement. Fortunately you can restart it before it saves. DON'T GET HIT!
  • finally got after about 3hrs and dodge then 1 hit. dreading the Shiva cheevo as im guessing u cant get hit at ALL and theres more ppl
  • #19 Hahaha well if that's why I beat him here is my guide: 1. Start up the Deathstroke fight 2. Pause 3. Pull out bong (get higher then hell) 4. Un-pause 5. Space out for a good 10 minutes (go with the flow) 6. Try to remember where you are and what you're even doing(contemplate) 7. "Ding" Achievement unlocked (realize you somehow beat it without trying) 8. Say aloud to yourself "There's an achievement for that?!" 9. Shrug it off walk downstairs to make pizza for the munchies you now seem to have. Trust me guys this worked for me perfectly. This is exactly how I beat it :)
  • #23 Perfect guide. It's not that hard, he has 2 animations on the stick phase, + 2 on the sword phase, so you just have to memorize those. Also, sometimes he'll flashbang you, and all you have to do is spam the counter button. The toughest thing is when he flashes you and grapples you to the propane tank, but sometimes that doesn't even happen. If you've missed the achievement, you can try to get it on New Game Plus or I Am The Night, but it's much harder because there are no indications to counter. One video, all achievements: http://youtu.be/pGLRMBwK16E
  • It was certainly a pain, but it just takes practice. I used the batclaw as much as possible which gives you two hits and if you can string a couple together you can get your combo meter up & hit him with the Y+B takedown move, which will get to the flashbang sequence quicker. The biggest mistake I was making at first was when you get into a button prompt counter, which you'll need to recognize & not hit to quickly. The claw barrel part will be the worst part, just be ready for the counter button after the animation is done.
  • Didn't get it then again didn't know there was one plus always messed up on the none quick time counters.
  • Challenging, but not impossible. Just avoid hammering the Y button. Work precisely and you'll be fine. Took me around 6 or 7 tries to get it, but it wasn't too bad.
  • This will be one of those controller-through-the-wall achievements, I fear.
  • @18 Wow man, you mean you like smoke weed man? That's so rad man, how can I be more like you duuuuuuuude?
  • I missed ONE. I got hit...ONCE. No chievo, no glory, just anguish.
  • Here is a good video, it also has tips in the description. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmxbcqvgODE&feature=youtu.be
  • This is so inconsistent. Stupid fucking achievement.
  • Yes, it took a few attempts but generally very easy. I didn't have to do the 3 counter move when i got the achievement. AA and X until you get to 8 then hit him with BY. When he stuns you and jumps from the air, finish mashing X and hit him with BY again. If the achievement doesn't pop when you stop the sword with your hands, restart.
  • I found that using the batclaw made the battle a whole lot easier, especially in avoiding as many counter moments as possible (main battle counters, not QTE's).
  • I already beat him without getting the achievement . Are there counter indicators on NG+ ??? I know there were not in arkham city
  • What's making it infinitely more infuriating for me is the fact that he'll occasionally throw out a move that I cannot counter in the normal hand to hand sections (Not the QTEs). I'm guessing this might be the hit thats causing the achievement to not pop, but if so why? If I can't counter it anyway, why is it voiding an achievement all about countering? And why is this only 10G? &*^%ing game...
  • After countless attempts, I have decided to save this to my memory stick, carry on with the game, and come back at a later day
  • I was definitely getting a bit frustrated with this achievement. It wasn't easy for me but did get it done eventually. What I found out as I restarted this section a few times, assuming you're doing this on Normal, is when the counter wave icons appear, to hold down the counter button until the counter actually occurs and only press the counter button when the Y button prompt popped up.
  • Submitting this right after having earned it. What I did was start the fight off with the bat claw, immediately taking some health off him. Once he got back up I immediately begin attacking him. If he gets more than two feet away, I either bat claw him to me or counter one of his attacks, so that I can immediately get back on the offensive. With this strategy the first phase only lasts around twenty seconds. In the second phase the most annoying part is when he would randomly use his claw device to throw a bomb at me. Simply counter the bomb, and bat claw him back into range, keeping him from ever firing a shot. The most difficult part of this fight for me was, in the third phase, recognizing the regular gameplay from the cutscenes. My best advice is to stay calm. The third phase
  • It took me about 2 hours stretched over 2 days to get this on normal difficulty, but I finally did. Here is my two cents in case it helps anyone. Most important piece of advice I can offer is learn to recognize when the game shifts from regular gameplay to cutscene mode. The cutscene means there are counter prompts coming, and if you were slow in recognizing the shift, you will keep attacking and screw up the QTE. Be deliberate in how you attack so you don't accidentally overrun a QTE, and once one is initiated, WAIT FOR THE Y BUTTON. Do not anticipate. Do not panic or get antsy. You will have time to counter, so wait for it. With that being said, stay on the offensive. Batclaw slam, regular strikes, B + Y combo when your combo meter gets to 8+. Do not let him just endlessly counter
  • SORTED. Ok, I have a simple system here which should mean EVERYONE gets this achievement in 1-3 attempts depending on how quick you adapt to the tactics I used. Thanks to everyone for their above tips as it all helped towards this solution (I did try other peoples ideas on using the B+Y combo but I just couldn't make it work and usually got hit whilst trying to get to 8 continuous attacks so the below solution should help everyone get this) Oh, and the best bit?...THIS SOLUTION MEANS YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE EXPLODING CYLINDER QTE PART BECAUSE THE GAME DOESN'T PLAY THAT PART OUT IF YOU FOLLOW THE BELOW MOVES. Bear with me as I know this post will be quite long-winded but I promise you it works and I'm that confident I'd happily wipe the achievement that just popped and do
  • Whoa! Hang on I'll add the other bits on below! ;D Ok 10 steps as follows on NORMAL difficulty (this may actually work on harder difficulties so try it if you're on New Game + etc and let me know): 1. As soon as the fight starts have you finger resting on top of the Y button (you're going to be using this a lot) 2. The moment Deathstroke's blue spider sense (ooo sorry DC) goes off and he begins his attack you need to PRESS AND HOLD DOWN the Y button (don't just tap it as unless you're timing is perfect you'll get hit a couple of occasions so MAKE SURE you hold it down) 3. As soon as its obvious that the counter has worked and Bats is handed out a counter-kick you can release the Y button 4. Wait for DS to finish whittling on or spinning his staff but make sure again you have
  • 4. Wait for DS to finish whittling on or spinning his staff but make sure again you have you finger poised on the Y button ready to PRESS AND HOLD counter-kick his second attack 5. Repeat this exact same counter twice more (this is where you need to be patient and not be tempted to throw a few hits in-I promise you, unless you're sleeping with Lady Luck, he'll perform this un-counterable move at some point getting hits in and it's all over) so in total you will have completed 4 successful counters (Don't ask why it's 4 times but I did try doing the following move after 1, 2 and 3 counters but DS just started continually dodging and eventually got a hit in on me)
  • 6. Ok so once you're successfully countering his 4TH attack in a row (I found literally counting out loud how many I had done as there's quite a bit of time between his attacks and you may loose count while he just talks, spins his staff or just stands there staring at you) you need to perform a LT+Y Batclaw Yank move. Easiest way to ensure this is seamless is while Bats is counter-kicking you just need to release the Y counter button you've been holding-press and hold the LT button-and then mash the Y button again so Bats perform the Quicktime Batclaw move immediately (in fact doing it this way almost seems to cut the counter move animation short) 7. Once Wilson is being dragged towards you and stumbles in WAIT until he's right up close and then PRESS AND HOLD THE X button to perform a
  • 8. The minute the clothesline/ground slam move has obviously been successful time slows right down and the game camera starts to slowly turn to re-adjust. THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO RELEASE THE X BUTTON-PUSH THE DIRECTIONAL STICK TOWARDS AN OPEN AREA-AND THEN FINALLY MASH THE 'A' BUTTON TO ROLL AWAY FROM DEATHSTROKE. 9. By the time you've rolled away DS will be on his feet and practically about to attack so once again stay calm and be ready on the PRESS AND HOLD Y button to again counter his 1st of 4 attacks. Again once the 4th counter is in play perform your LT+Y Batclaw Pull move-followed by your PRESS AND HOLD X button ground slam move-followed by your directional stick and mash A button roll-away. Keep repeating this slow tactic as each time you get round to doing the ground slam m
  • 10. After about 4-5 times of doing the above tactics DS will drop his flashbang and come leaping in for the QTE bit. Straight forward here, stay calm and the minute you see the Y button prompt appear just start mashing the Y button to the point where Bats head-butts him, at which point you can mash the X button to perform your very effective Beatdown move (this takes loads of health off DS and if all goes well you'll only have to do this a couple of times before the achievement pops because remember you take 1/2 bar off him for each ground slam too) That's it really. As long as you have a little patience and half decent timing this achievement will be yours on either your 1st attempt or a couple after and you'll breathe a sigh of relief as you hear that lovely chime sound as the achieve
  • **Sorry about this lol! Thought you could put a full post in without a limit on characters! (Does anyone know how to edit posts and I'll tidy the above and below posts out?) That's it really. As long as you have a little patience and half decent timing this achievement will be yours on either your 1st attempt or a couple after and you'll breathe a sigh of relief as you hear that lovely chime sound as the achievement pops (Oh and also another Avatar achievement pops as well as yet another achievement just for beating Deathstroke)
  • Right! I'm gonna start this guide again as just noticed its cut off quite a few of the tips-apologies as soon as I can figure how you wipe the above messy posts I'll do it. Right starting from the next post here we go...

• 7. Once Wilson is being dragged towards you and stumbles in WAIT until he's right up close and then PRESS AND HOLD THE X button to perform a clothesline/ground slam move 8.
  • 9. Keep repeating this slow tactic as each time you get round to doing the ground slam move it takes around 1/2 a bar of health off him, so it is slow but it WILL work in the end
  • 10. After about 4-5 times of doing the above tactics DS will drop his flashbang and come leaping in for the QTE bit. Straight forward here, stay calm and the minute you see the Y button prompt appear just start mashing the Y button to the point where Bats head-butts him, at which point you can mash the X button to perform your very effective Beatdown move (this takes loads of health off DS and if all goes well you'll only have to do this a couple of times before the achievement pops because remember you take 1/2 bar off him for each ground slam too)
  • That's it really. As long as you have a little patience and half decent timing this achievement will be yours on either your 1st attempt or a couple after and you'll breathe a sigh of relief as you hear that lovely chime sound as the achievement pops (Oh and also another Avatar achievement pops as well as yet another achievement just for beating Deathstroke) Couple of final tips below:
  • *TIP 1* Sometimes, if you roll away TOO far after the ground slam move, DS will either leap in with an attack (just press and hold Y to counter when you see the blue spider sense) or he will run at you and attack (again just press and hold to counter) or he will take the opportunity to try and shoot you (easily identifiable as you'll see his red laser light pointing at you) and for this all you need to do is just press LT+Y to Batclaw him forward and interupt him shooting. All the times he did this to me there was plenty of time to Batclaw him and he never once managed to get a shot off
  • *TIP 2* When you're just standing facing off against each other waiting for him to attack, try and make sure you're not standing sort of 'too' far away if that makes sense. A couple of times I must have only rolled away a short distance and he managed to hit me with the very end of his pole as I guess I was a little too far away to grab the pole on the counter. To combat this, just walk in closer until you're at the standard distance from him (making sure you're hovering over that precious Y button) and he shouldn't attack-don't worry how close you get to DS as he sort of correctly re-adjusts his distance before starting the attack anyway.
  • *TIP 3* After a while Bats snatches and breaks his pole over his knee which means you're on the home straight as DS will take his sword out which point the waiting time between each attack reduces a lot. Just make sure you're ready on that PRESS AND HOLD Y button counter-move *TIP 4* You'll know if you've failed and need to restart as the top left part of the screen will suddenly be showing your armour levels. If you're doing everything correctly it will be blank and only show the amount of times you've hit DS by either showing 'x1' during normal counters or 'x15' or 'x20' when you use the Beatdowns
  • Good luck (hopefully you won't need it though) and enjoy moving on with the rest of the game ;) Matt
  • wow he's impossible to beat on New Game+ let alone get this achievement cheat city
  • #5 yeah sure...
  • triple dare anyone to try and get this achievement on new game plus
  • Just a little warning If the gas tanks hit you, you don't get the achievement I am up at 1 o'clock in the morning, tried over 20 times to get this achievement, I got hit by 1 gas tank and I thought '' that surely won't affect it '' it did However I couldn't restart it once I finished the fight so, there you go. And by the way, after a few tries you will get the hang of it, don't get too frustrated over it, it's not impossible :)
  • Considering the lack of variations in deathstrokes attacks this is a very easy achievement to get... you have plenty time to counter so don't panic.
  • Hey guys, just did this on NG+, here's what I did: first, bat claw is your best friend, and you have to be good at the smoke tank counters that DS throws at you (when the animation begins, be patient until you see the DS remote claw and batman in screen together, then start to counter). I was able to avoid all QTEs by using bat claw slam, then evade away from DS, and repeat. If you don't get the bat claw slam, just hit him once then evade and repeat. Anytime you get your special combo, do the Y + B take down to guarantee some more health off of DS. The takedown was handy in NG+ because of the 5 hit charge, plus double special combo. Hope this helps!
  • This was really really easy just an FYI wait until NG+. First... Bat claw... Second get to 5x multiplier 3rd use Y+B combo... if it'll let you get two in get two in. Second as the Y+B will slightly throw off DS attack him one or two more times eventually batman should do a backwards somersault kick repelling DS a slight distance from him. Well even if you off timed something or lost the multiplier you simply repeat this and go again. This will get you to the first QTE where you essentially spam tap Y until Batman counters and goes on the offensive. Keep doing that and soon it's sword time aka one more QTE later(two QTE total so far) Sword is way harder to counter... so don't go letting him get on the offensive. Continue with this strategy through sword round. At one point he'll
  • It could have just been a coincidence but what helped me the most was I just beat him even if I got hit and the very next try I got it, if you just beat him once you learn the patterns for all his moves
  • Must just be me, I can't seem to beat SD. Always evading my bat claw and repeating the same counter after I land 1-2 hits. As a side note half way through my last attempt at beating him he crumpled to the floor with still a half bar of life. Is this a glitch? And has anyone else experience it?
  • My doubt: On phase 2, during a direct fight, I can avoid the first hit, but he always jump and hit me. There is NO counter display on screen. Should I just hold the Y button?
  • Just got this after a ridiculous number of tries. My method was to not use the batclaw at all. I just kept evading, hitting him once, and repeating until I built up a Y+B combo. Every once in a while, the batclaw slam would fail, and initiate what seemed like an unblockable QTE, could have been a glitch. As long as I stayed away from the batclaw slam, I was able to counter everything as long as I timed it right and didn't spam the button. Still took a few tries once I went with that method thanks to bad camera angles, but I was able to consistently get to the sword phase when not using the slam, where before, it was a crap shoot if I was even able to get his mask off.
  • This is what ruins games... This should be an epic battle of reflex and skill. It is not, pure luck based crap. I've tried numerous methods but I still keep getting 'one shotted' by his unblockable move, even if I mix up my attacks. My best so for (and most consistant) is to keep jumping over his head and then hitting him once. Sometimes I get sucker punched on my 6th hit, sometimes a couple of minutes into the fight doing this.... Complete and utter game (and fun) breaking RNG rubbish. I can hit every legit counter and punch/kick him in the face with consistency (and that is fun), then, ouch... restart because of 'invinca-moves'.
  • F*ck this achievement, I finally gave up after about an hour or more and over 30 restarts, it's just NOT worth the aggravation for only 10G, I can admit when I'm beaten...
  • I had trouble defeating Deathstroke...but since I fought this guy so many times, he is fun to play against. I learned his fighting technique to see when to counter his melee attacks. It takes a lot of patience to see when is the right time to counter his attacks. Be patient but aggressive...when he do his multi-attacks, don't force it...keep tapping Y gently.
  • I kinda wanna give up on getting this the first time around. Can I get it in NG+?
