Mirror's Edge to Feature Time Trial Mode

Mirror's Edge to Feature Time Trial Mode
Written Wednesday, August 27, 2008 by Dan Webb

Sometimes I think little pixies visit me in my sleep and give me little premonititions about what will happen in the future. And by this, I don't mean "the end of the world is nigh" premonititions... I mean some that are so useless, you think... "Heh, that'd be cool".

After playing Mirror's Edge last week and writing the preview, I made a comment towards the end of the piece that I can see the game becoming one of those titles where you will always strive to do the level quicker and it seems like DICE had the same idea.

According to 1UP, the latest issue of EGM has unveiled a new time trial mode in Mirror's Edge that challenges players to complete small  sections of levels in the fastest time possible. Even better, you have the ability to download ghosts of the fastest time and upload your times on to a leaderboard.

In the words of Jim Bowen, "Super, smashing, great!"

Check out for the latest EGM that has Mirror's Edge on the cover, for more details.

The game is different, and for that I hope DICE makes it very fun and worth purchasing. I very much look forward to playing this.

So not one... not two... but 3 people have to be idiots with their comments? And a game that looks awesome (but isn't even out yet) have a 43% rating based on 9 users??? I think that's my daily intake of stupid.

On a serious note, that looks like a cool feature. It's always cool to show people just how good you are at a certain game, beyond just scoring achievements.

i guess some people are just too dumb to recognize greatness when they see it right #7? This game looks absolutely brilliant and its probably cod/halo fanboys who are freaking out cause you dont have to use GUNS!

This game does look real purdy like. Oh and people who say 1st, 2nd , 3rd , etc. should face the X360a firing squad.

Theres skateboarding games, surfing, BMX, olympic and rollerblading games, i thnik a free running game will bring a good sense of variety to the 'sport' genre. I agree with #6 (the nick316) children who do that should be banned from posting comments on the news feeds :)!

I wish this parkour craze would end. I don't understand why it got so popular just now.

time trials are ok if a bit of a cheeky way to extend the lifespan of a game. Look at Tomb Raider...

Kudos on the Jim Bowen interview link. The man's a legend.

This game just gets better and better. These time trials won't be like other games. They're going to be for small sections of each level and probably just the free running parts of the level. This will prove to be cool

Hopefully it wont be as crap as that free running game on the psp, yeah ok it was fun at first but then it got boring so fast as you would do the same thing over and over again

The freerunning game on the PS2/PSP was so fail but quite fun to play but totally unrealistic.

Mirror's edge looks like it could be alot of fun. I hope a demo will become available before/just after release.

You should seriously make it so that you cannot review a game if it's not out yet, 68%? Thats stupid.

This game looks promising. People who review games before they are even out should sit down and think about what they have done. lol.

If there will be some Time Trial achievements, I hope they are not as hard as the 'Portal' achievements.

The 'Aperture Science' achievement was a pain in the ass.

But nice Idea!!! : )

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
