Batman: Arkham City Nightwing DLC Trailer is Electric
Written Wednesday, October 26, 2011 By Richard Walker
View author's profile

Gearing up for release next month, the Batman: Arkham City Nightwing DLC is looking rather exciting, what with Dick Grayson hanging up his green Robin tights to assume the far cooler role of Nightwing, complete with his black and blue outfit, funky hairstyle and electrified tonfa.

For the princely sum of 560 Microsoft Points, you'll get the Nightwing character (obviously) as well as his Animated Series counterpart, and a bunch of Nightwing challenges to complete. And before you start taking the proverbial pee out of him, Nightwing actually looks pretty bad ass in this new video.

Nightwing will be battering bad guys with his martial arts skills and electric tonfa when the Batman: Arkham City Nightwing DLC arrives on November 1st, 2011. Batman: Arkham City launched last week to high praise, including our definitive review, which you can read here.

@2 If im correct, it is the Catwoman DLC which is 800 points unless you got it free with a pre-order. The other two are 560MS Points.

I just don't get why the developers are so hung up on making challenge pack DLC. First AA and now this. The campaign is where these games truly shine. The challenges (IMO) are just a 'fun' little distraction. I could never pay that much for something that isn't adding one iota to the campaign. Am I the only one that thinks this or does Rocksteady not have a clue what the fans really want? Did they think the high review scores were based on the challenges?? Too many challenge based achievements too.

I understand that campaign DLC might still be in development but creating 2 unplayable characters just to complete some challenges seems like kind of a waste and definitely not worth 560 points. It makes me worry about how expensive the campaign DLC will be if and when it comes out.

I'll likely pick it up later. Just too great games at the moment and my wallet is empty with Arkham City and BF3 within a week

@8

You said it yourself that these things are "fun" even if you find them as only a small distraction. The bottom line is that they are FUN and that is what video games are supposed to be right? At the end of the day I'll take whatever content the developers are offering me so long as it's fun and enjoyable.

As for this DLC, I want to call it awesome but I don't think that does it justice. I was overjoyed to see him do an armbar as a takedown.

@ 8 - So you want just a campaign in an era where Extra Features/Modes are the bread and butter to games. Just about every game has more than the Campaign mode choice. Batman doesn't seem geared towards balanced MP and co-op would be a weird concept in a free roamer like this. That aside, the Challenge Rooms are based around the combat so that's where the devs decided to implement the mode.

YOU may not think it's that great but a lot of people loved the challenge rooms from the first game. Feedback gets heard.

@15...You seemed to miss the point of my post. I am talking about the way they keep prioritizing challenge packs over everything else. The last game only had challenge packs and no campaign DLC; and now this game has two DLC packs both geared towards challenges again. If you noticed I put fun in quotes ('fun') because to many people the challenges are mostly annoying with a few that are actually fun sprinkled in. The only reason anyone that I know is bothering with them is for the achievements.

Yes, that is an opinion, however, I truly believe it is an opinion the majority share (preferring campaign over challenges). You can't honestly tell me that the majority of fans would not rather have these characters playable in the campaign (at least by adding additional chapters like Catwoman) instead of just adding more challenges.

@18....I didn't say I ONLY wanted campaign. Does anyone actually read an entire post before responding? I simply said that creating additional characters for the sole sake of challenges and no additional chapters for the campaign to use them in seems like kind of a waste. The point of my post was that the challenges should be there but just as an added extra not as the ENTIRE DLC.

@ 24 - Well it's like i said, the CR's from the first game were applauded by fans.

Okay, I get you on the character thing. They are getting a bit awry with that which is another reason I'm not going for the game myself. Eventually but I'm just not buying into the hype now when I've got other games on the brain.

I do agree with your CR notion though. Building it around DLC is bad mojo. The first game did offer a free CR at first.

I like the part where this is dlc. Oh wait.... But seriously, this is the kind of thing that should have been in the game from the start. Should have made him an unlockable for getting 100% or something like that. As much as I love the game, this is the kind of thing that just drives me crazy.

Agreed on both parts:

1)Yes the Night-wing DLC should be on the disc as an unlock-able, or at least the Skins and challenge rooms. Where as paying a premium for any campaign DLC is totally worth the price.

2)I'm a comic geek, and prob will get this anyway. The combat rooms were excellent in the first game, although difficult - but very enjoyable. However still pale in comparison to the story mode.

Challenges are fun when you get the hang of them, but until then they suck. I do agree that having to do the challenges 4 times (Batman, Catwoman, Robin, and Nightwing) is stupid. They should've added campaign chapters for Robin and Nightwing instead of just giving them challenges.

DLC already and the game is just 1-2 weeks old. What is the gaming industry comming to?
When I first heard of DLC back in 2006 I was hyped, extending the game sounds great. But now when you purchase a game it feels like you don't get all of the content.
OT= It would be cool if they released a DLC story arc where you get to play as The Joker.

@36 for sure man felling the exact same way. I bought Rage and there was DLC day one but it was added to the game if you bought it new. LA noir wasnt complete seeing as there is DLC that is set in the middle of the story...well all of it is, none after the main story.
I could sit here for hours saying what games ARNT complete(and everyone knows it)but there still extremely generous people, Even EA and Activition.

I work ONE day of work and hope to make 80-100 dollars they work 1-5, 14(DUKE)years and they ask for 60$ for it. not much to ask for.

@ 36 & 37 - What is wrong with that? This has been complained about for a while with many games and all for naught.

You do realize that a game's release date is down the line from when it's generally finished. With that spare time in between, the devs start work on the DLC. It's common sense to get it out to you ASAP with the way things are moving nowadays. Movies get released from cinema to DVD within a couple months as opposed to almost a year now. Game sequels are practically annually instead of a 2-3 year gap. This is nothing new.

So it's pretty much 1000+ msp to play the SAME challenges again, but with 2 new characters ?
I bet they are WAY less "Iwannasmashmycontroller"-esque with a new haircut... And there is also the ridiculousy low 100G you can grab for the trouble ?

Well, no thanks !

When they'll be DotW, maybe.
And only if I'm done with the Batman and Catwoman challenges first.

@38 I think you're missing the point. Many developers pull content out of the game and then sell them as "extra" content a week later. Don't get me wrong, I am all for extra content, just as long as they actually finish the DLC AFTER the entire game is finished

I also agree with @30. Really epic? You're gonna sell us weapon skins? Instead of having us have fun unlocking them? Fuck you.

I love it how Microsoft charge us for extra content when it's already on the disc in most cases. I think they charge way too much for what your getting. I know alot of people don't like paying for content that should already be in the game,(I'm one of them), but I've been looking at it from this perspective now. Alot of Game studios have been closing down, because the videogame industry is very hard to have good growth in. Alot of game studios put more money into making games then they get from the sales, either due to lack of popularity, being bought used, or being illegally downloaded. So the studios, as much as its probably pains them to do it, are removing content from the game and are releasing it later at a charged price, just to try and make enough to profit to continue on doing what they love, making videogames. If the production companies providing money to the studios decides theres not enough profit to be made, they'll SH** can that studio faster than you can say Donkey Kong. Nowadays if there isn't a pile of money that shows up fast, they get rid of you, instead of letting you grow. Unfortunally this will probably continue forever, because sadly its pretty much all about survival.

Nightwing! HELL YEA!

I hope the DLC for this game does not stop ever. Hopefully there is a lot more DLC in the pipeline and please let it be single player campaign DLC's where we can play as Nightwing and go to Bludhaven and even fight Deathstroke.

Challenge maps are ok, but campaign DLC would be amazing, especially if it's GTA IV style DLC where it was episodic.

@ 50 - I'm sure some devs do that but I do not think it's all of them on such a wide scale. Otherwise, then people have no excuse aside from being spending sheep b/c if it was as you say, few people to nobody would plunk down for it. It also has to do with space and time which I'm not exactly TOO privy on but I sincerely doubt it's a conspiracy to make more money. The franchises alone make them boatloads of money.

Personally, with Azrael, Nightwing, Robin, Catwoman and Batman all showing up now, I fully expect to see some form of co-op either as DLC or in the next game. Even co-op challenge rooms would be awesome imo, but full co-op in Arkham City? I'd pay 1200MSP for that DLC.
