Double Fine has unveiled yet another child-friendly Kinect game, follwing its work on Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster, with 'Happy Action Theater', a collection of 18 mini-games aimed at children, that's one of several kids' games announced for Kinect.

Apparently, Happy Action Theater's mini-games are "designed to activate gross motor skills, inspire imagination and entertain players of all ages". The activities include smashing up buildings like Godzilla, jumping around in waist-deep molten lava, a Space Invaders-like shooting game and just general dancing around, mirth and merriment, y'know, for kids.

Due out this winter on XBLA, Happy Action Theater is part of a new push on Kinect for kiddy games, with a Pixar collaboration codenamed Rush due in spring 2012, which will feature the studio's best known properties like The Incredibles, Toy Story, Cars and so on. And then there's interactive storybook Project Columbia and interactive TV experiences, Kinect Sesame Street TV and Kinect Nat Geo TV.

"We know that the most effective learning environments for children are those that are engaging and exciting, and that foster collaboration and a positive attitude toward learning," said Microsoft's Educational Design Director, Alex Games."With the controller-free magic of Kinect, we can encourage kids to use their motor skills and to learn using their body in immersive experiences. This new way to play allows children to learn by interacting with their favorite characters and engage with content in novel ways."

Looks like the coming months are going to be great if you're a kid with a Kinect device. Check out the debut trailer for Double Fine's Happy Action Theater.

Pre-ordering this! .____.

Why can't we get more Fruit Ninja's and Gunsrtingers? For every good Kinect game there are 50 bad ones. Even when I was a kid I would have thought this game was a joke.

Aww when I read the link I thought it was supposed to be an ironic game and, "happy action theater" was going to be violent. They need more games like that for the kinect. And the video doesnt work so im not quite sure what its about. Hopefully it will be action. . . eey.

It's a kids game...IT MUST BE BAD!

Love how people are writing this off already.

Have you not played Stacking, Trenched or COstume Quest then?

Double Fine are awesome and made even sesame street some-what entertaining.

but no..its Kinect and for kids so screw it

I'm pretty certain Tim Schafer pitched it as for kids and "a bunch of drunk 20-somethings" and then proceeded to mimic the ending of Terminator 2 on the lava minigame, so I don't think even he's taking it seriously.

Every so often - I see somethin on Kinect that reminds me of what could be. The device really had the potential to deliver refreshing gameplay to this generation of machines.
But with each new release - for whatever reason - game designers just can not deliver on the Kinect. Even flagship games like 'Gunstringer' are nothing more than upgraded tech demo's..
Now we have this acknowledgement from Microsoft, that Kinect is better served as a children's entertainment medium. And from the looks of this promo, it clearly looks like it will entertain children.
Maybe on the next generation of machines, the technology will be perfected enough to transform the hype into reality.

@17 Kinda my thoughts aswell. That was more messed up than the Professor Genki’s Saints Row 3 trailer!

I'd love to meet the guys that thought of making their acid trip a public experience.

To everyone complaining about this game: God forbid EVERY game isn't tailored to your likes and interests. Just because it's not appealing to you, doesn't mean it's crap. Settle down.

@4. I've heard good things. I gotta try it still, that's why I didn't include it. Probably gonna rent it some time after I play all of these big releases coming up.

I think this looks awesome(for kids). I could see my little brother and sister having loads of fun messing around with this and its an arcade download so no need to go to the store buy the game and look like a tool.

Also, this is marketed for kids so if ur not a kid dont bitch about it and say it looks crap.

Finally they're doing what they're supposed - kiddie games, that's what shitnect is best for other than fitness and dancing. I jsut wish they remembered about core audience and the fact that they are running out of interesting exclusives is not helping their case....
