Burnout Paradise "Cagney" Update Details

Burnout Paradise "Cagney" Update Details
Written Wednesday, April 16, 2008 by Dan Webb

How can you make Burnout better? Easy, strap loads of quirky modes on it and it has the same sort of effect that you would get when you mix ice-cream and steak together [that's meant to be a good thing by the way]. Anyway, over at the Criterion homepage, the Burnout team have posted new details of their upcoming modes that are going to be part of the "Cagney" update. There are three that they uncovered, accessible under the Easy Game menu and then setting up a Freeburn Game Mode and they are as follows:

Online Stunt Run

"• This is 8-player simultaneous online Stunt Run – everyone competes for the highest score within the 2 minute time limit and you can play anywhere in Paradise City.
• An on-screen display shows all player scores, so you can easily see how you're doing.
• Earn multipliers for taking each other out but you lose your combo score, if you're taken down.
• Eliminated players are greyed out of the scoring area but can exact brutal revenge by chasing after players that have managed to keep their combos alive beyond the time-out.
• For the first time, you can drive alongside someone as they complete a billion score in Stunt Run - you can absolutely use this mode to try and show off to your friends."

Online Road Rage

"• This is an 8-player online team event.
• At the start, everyone chooses their team (red or blue).
• One team of "runners" has to drive to a checkpoint then the finish – they can only see one checkpoint ahead.
• The other team has to take them down. These guys can see the checkpoint and finish and choose whether to wait and ambush in key locations, shortcut to the action if they get left behind or just follow the pack and cause chaos."

Online Marked Man

"• We randomly choose a "Marked Man".
• There's an intense few moments, while all players wait for the selection to be made – you want to stay close to other players, so you can hit the Marked Man, as soon as he's selected but far enough away that that you can run like hell if it's you that's the Marked Man.
• The target is selected and a 90 second timer starts – you get 1 point if you survive and 1 point if you take down the Marked Man. After 90 seconds a new Marked Man is selected at random.
• If you're the Marked Man, you can't see the attacking players on the map, your car is a little slower and you don't get boost.
• The session usually consists of around 10-12 minutes of intense gameplay depending on the number of players involved."

The Criterion team closes their update with...

"Over the next 12 months, we're going to transform the Burnout Paradise you know and love into the Burnout Paradise you only ever dreamed of!"

Burnout with flying cars? That was last nights dream anyway! I don't think that's what they had in mind, but I'm sure it would be good anyway.

This game was terrible. Burnout was all about the battles - crashing into each other, taking down - and then they added free roam so everyone went their own ways and never made contact with each other.

Terrible, terrible game

Peace

It is an EA game after all so all this stuff cant be free can it??
I have this game and i think its great..however it aint great enough to spend even more of my cash on for a few mutiplayer race modes that will proberly get boring afterv the first 5 minuites

@narcolepticshee: Each Burnout game is different. If you want that, go and play Revenge. Paradise is all about the social experience, doing challenges with friends and now all the race types too.

If there are new achievements I will be getting this. I loved Paradise.

I loved Burnout Paradise, but got bored quickly and traded it. I wish I hadn't now, but I guess it will drop in price later when this DLC is released.

Loved this game and personally i dont think it was "terrible terrible game" as someone eloquently pointed out. Sounds like great additions. I'm guessing the term "update" means this stuff will be added onto the game via an update like the annex mode in Gears was. Worth revisiitng the game for me, need to finish up some things anyway.

well, I'm not sure if this is enough to bring me back to Burnout Paradise, but it's good news for people currently playing the game.

Wow, I didn't realise Paradise split gamers so much... For the record, I hated it when I first got it, but after a lot of hours I think it's brilliant, and definitely one of the best games over Live with friends... More please! :)

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
