Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack Hits Xbox Live

Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack Hits Xbox Live
Written Tuesday, April 15, 2008 by Neil Christie

Microsoft and Bungie today announced that the new Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack has arrived on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The pack brings three brand new levels to the game, each with their own individual look and feel and for only 800 Microsoft Points.

Ghost Town which is an organic map set in the area surrounding a large mountain, characterized by its crumbling buildings that stand as a stagnant reminder of the war which has torn through the region.

The idea behind Avalanche is derived from Sidewinder, a map which was held in high regard my many Halo players. It's a remote power station set on a glacial shelf and its open outdoor area and narrow corridors make it ideal for larger games.

The final map in the pack, Blackout, is also based on a map which appeared earlier in the series, the ever popular, Lockout. It's another very remote building standing alone in the wilderness which features tight indoor areas and a maze of outdoor platforms and bridges.

To compliment the arrival of the pack, Microsoft has also published a free Legendary Map Pack dashboard theme, which you're able to pick up absolutely free. US and Canadian gamers can also get their hands on a free gamer picture which automatically enters them into the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack promotion.

UPDATE from Microsoft:
As an added bonus, for a limited time only, gamers who purchase the Legendary Map Pack will receive a four month subscription to "Bungie PRO" via Xbox LIVE. Bungie PRO greatly expands the Halo 3 experience by increasing the maximum number of file share storage slots from six to twenty-four while also increasing the total file storage size to 250MB. This will allow players to upload and share more films, maps, screenshots and game-types than ever before.

After downloading the new maps, gamers can register on Xbox LIVE for the "Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack Play & Win Sweepstakes" for their chance to win great prizes including a "Halo 3" Edition console, Halo ActionClix: Scarab Vehicle Pack, a complete set of "Halo 3" Series 1 Action Figures from McFarlane Toys, nearly one million MS Points and much more. Visit http://www.xbox.com/legendaryplaywin for more info.

The maps of the Legendary Map Pack are available in matchmaking today to those who have purchased the download. Additionally, fans that have yet to purchase the Heroic Map Pack, which released in December, can now download it for free on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

It'll be nice to take a break from Call of Duty 4 for a while.

Count me in. I'll buy.

I cannot wait to play Ghost Town, it looks awesome, and the forge options are amazing as well.

Blackout is sweet too, and the free theme and gamerpic cannot be a bad thing either!

Haha I laughed because I thought I got these maps for free already, not to my knowledge it was just the teaser movie, I really have my doubts about this as I've played for some hours and still have yet to play any new heroic maps, Bunige's idea of match making are good but not great

I'm not gonna lie, getting three maps, two of which have been done before, for $10 USD is a rip-off.

CoD 4 maps I initially was not going to buy, but I ultimately broke down and got them. I have played them out and have enjoyed them a lot. Halo just does not have a team based appeal to it and I cannot stand that. The FOUR new CoD maps have only one that is similar to a remake of Carentan from CoD 2. Any maps that have been done before should be free and Halo is just going to continue to capitalize on that. I know that 100,000 people will buy the new maps and Halo will continue to make the remake maps, but ultimately, I think that it is crap when games re-release content and try to make even more money off of them.

If you've bought the legendary map pack today, and today only, and play a full game on it, according to Bungie, You'll get a free 4 month trial of Bungie Pro (24 slots for file share instead of 6).

@ Lord of Orion

Pardon me for my language, but you have no fucking clue do you? You actually think it's the "game's" fault for putting it at a price. Hell if it was up to the game it WOULD be free. But Microsoft always "needs" more money. Another thing about the remakes - The community WANTED these maps to be remade, so don't make it like it was all about milking more money out of them.

i would have to agree with Odysseus... everyone i know that plays Halo has been waiting with their hands in their pants for a remake of Lockout and Sidewinder from the older games... I gladly paid ten bucks to see some old friends that i miss... some people just dont realize how much money it takes to produce games and content... and the salaries that people need to make in order to live off the job...

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
