del Toro's inSANE Still Two or Three Years Away

Don’t expect to see Insane any time soon, says the game’s creator Guillermo del Toro. The Spanish filmmaker’s first title, a horror game published by THQ, is still two or three years off yet.

"We've been working for a year," del Toro told MTV Multiplayer. “We have two or three more years to go. It's huge. I'm learning a lot. I'm going in with a really, really modest 'I'm learning' approach.

“I'm a huge gamer but going into constructing it, you have to be respectful of the medium. I'm learning a lot, talking about the storyline for weeks. We've been designing the creatures, which are obscenely fun and unique. You haven't seen them ever."

Developed in conjunction with Volition, the creators of Saints Row and Red Faction, del Toro describes Insane as sandbox game with a “Lovecraftian” tone.

“It's really weird, but it's Lovecraftian in a very sick way, which I like. It's truly, truly entertaining. Full of action, but also a very shocking game. And Guy Davis and Francisco [Ruis Velasco]. Guy Davis, to me, is one of the best monster designers alive right now."

Despite his enthusiasm, however, del Toro’s work commitments mean we won’t be getting our hands on Insane for some some.

"My life is pretty much 24/7 work,” he said, “but we're giving it the proper attention. We've spent an inordinate amount of time into that project. It's because it's worth it, I think. You learn more, as a narrator, for this medium, than I ever expected."

Will it be any good? Who knows. But a game from the man that dreamed up Pan’s Labyrinth may just be worth hanging around for.

I'm not too concerned how long it will take, the more time spent generally the better the quality, noone mention that to duke nukem though!

If it's comparable to CB's Jericho, which I truely did enjoy, story and game play it can only be a good thing in my mind, depends on the route the game takes though, maybe resi evil style? problem with horror-style games, nothing breaks the mould really, maybe something outrageous could be on the cards with this one though!

The experience with waiting a long time for games usually comes with disappointing results (DNF and Too Human come to mind). I'm a big Guillermo del Toro fan, but I won't get my hopes up for him making his first video game.

Oh man. I horror game by Guillermo del Toro will probably give me night terrors for awhile. Though, horror games are only scary when they build suspense, nothing happens, then a little while later when it seems clear the horror pops out of nowhere.

I can wait for it...I don't expect with the wait, that it'll be a AAA class game, but at least it should be a good horror game, where story and spooky-nootchies will matter. Hell, I just started on Deadly Premonition, and while controls are way too oldschool, I'm enjoying it for its story.

As much as I think this game could be amazing, I don't get why they bother even announcing a game like this so early. I mean, it feels like a long time ago (over a year?) since they first announced it, and since then all they've done is briefly mention it, and shown no art or footage. I get that there may not be much to show at this point, but that just brings me back to wondering they they announced it so early.

And with the Lovecraftian edge, that makes it plenty better. I love Lovecrafts stories, and even enjoyed Call of Cthulhu on xbox. (should've been called Call of Dagon though)

Hooray, some news. I thought the teaser trailer was really sweet. The wait will be worth it if it is what I think it is.

Now...If only we got some news on I am Alive, The Outsider, Ride to Hell, and Earth No More. And maybe Faith and a .45 and GTA V.

Uhm, i heard him say same shit during E3 or some other event way back.. so this is hardly news... That piece about action has me worried though. It's like Dead Space turning into Dead Space 2 -not as scary and to fast paced... Still having high hopes for it though!
