European Rock Band Prices Released

European Rock Band Prices Released
Written Wednesday, April 09, 2008 by David Creech

Do you really like Rock Band? As in, 240 Euros worth?

EA has confirmed the price for Rock Band, following the European date announcement this morning.

Europe, unlike the US, will not get all of the instruments bundled together with the game.

Instead, you will have to fork out for an Instrument Edition at GBP 129.99 / EUR 169 - comprised of the drum kit, guitar and microphone - then buy the game separately for GBP 49.99 / EUR 69.99.

Anyone after the whole lot will be looking at a total of GBP 180 / EUR 240, then. That's rather more than in the US, where you can buy the game and all the instruments for USD 169 - equivalent to around GBP 85 / EUR 107.

Wireless guitars will be sold separately for GBP 59.99 / EUR 79.99, while the drum kit will be GBP 69.99 / EUR 89.99.

Hopefully retailers will be offering their own bundles.

Rock Band will be out in Europe exclusively for Xbox 360 on 23rd May.

Thanks to Eurogamer for the bad news.

I have to agree. They should have it the same as they do in America. Prices are kinda expensive for just the plain guitar and drums.

I had to just check it wasn't still April 1st because this is a very bad joke. What the hell?

I am quite annoyed at that. I was really looking forward to playing this game, but there's no way I'm forking out £180 for it. I mean, thats £30 more expensive than the 360 Arcade, and only £20 cheaper than the Premium.

EA milking a stronger market out of its well-earned money.

Anyone at all surprised?

Oh man, bummer to hear. That really is a bummer for you guys over there, as this game is so great, and everyone should be able to experience it.

EA really ought to try and understand how to EARN customers, not throw them away.

Wednesday, April 09, 2008 @ 08:21:43 PM

Though it's kind of "old" (yesterdays) news...man am i still pissed off because of this. They had this harmonix dude interviewed over at Eurogamer, who stated it's because of stuff like VAT the price is this high...VAT is like 19% (in the Netherlands). Not 120%!

this is a crock of crap, since its release in the states 15 years ago ive been waiting and now i learn that the scum at ea intend to rape my finance for the damn thing, army of 2 sucked online and now i have to sell my car and a kidney to enjoy rock band.

Wednesday, April 09, 2008 @ 08:46:08 PM

I wouldn't mind so much if the game cam with the instruments like it is in America. What possible reason is there to split them up, other than cashing in on a market that has wanted the game for ages?

I'm ordering my instruments from America and buying the game second hand just to make sure none of my money sees EA UK hands.

EA is a joke, I've decided to quit buying games from them after Army of Two(disapointment, I can't belive I spent 60 canadian dollars on that and can't even get a God dang refund), Although they may occasionally have a good game or two I might rent. Sorry to hear the bad news for all you in Europe.

Wednesday, April 09, 2008 @ 08:59:04 PM

They expect people to fork out over £180 (d/c as well), when people in America get it for £85! Hell, with all the download-able content coming out for this, it might be cheaper to by a US Xbox with the game to play to this.

Wednesday, April 09, 2008 @ 09:01:59 PM

if i was from england id just wait till the game went down in price....idk tho since im doin tht in the US nd the games been out for a half a year now so.... bummer for england

Wednesday, April 09, 2008 @ 09:20:37 PM

So the drum kit on its own is more expensive than Guitar Hero 3, thats just ridculess, there's need to be a strike/boycott or something on this to stop people giving EA any cash.

Wednesday, April 09, 2008 @ 09:23:55 PM

I've been looking forward to this since it was announced, but I don't think I'll buy it at this price.
I'll just wait for Alone in the Dark or something instead.

Huh...is Rockband NTSC (America) region coded? My Ridge Racer is NTSC and works fine on my PAL xbox (no mods etc). I'm not forking out 240 euros for this, 100 is more than enough for GH3 and gave me fun, but 240 is mocking with people.

Wednesday, April 09, 2008 @ 10:17:47 PM

This makes the game £30/$60 more expensive than the actual console. Er, thanks for the offer EA, but you can shove it where the sun don't shine for that

Wednesday, April 09, 2008 @ 11:49:34 PM

Just calculated what that's in USD at the current exchange rate...

240 euro's = 380 USD

So thats a price increase of almost 240%...

that's insane they can't do this

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 12:29:35 AM

Well No thanks...

I'd rather not pay ridiculous prices for games. It might as well be it's own console to cost that much.

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 12:32:32 AM

Zulamun put it in perspective for me. Now I understand why all you European folks are upset.... three words. Fuck That Shit. Really sucks for you guys, sorry abou the outrageous price hike.

Screw EA, i aint buying this game, they cant expect Americans to pay one price, then wait 6 months and charge Europe more than double that.

Fuck EA, fucking ridiculous

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 04:32:16 AM

It´s ridiculous that they won´t bundle the game with the instruments, I would have payed 170€ but 240€? No thanks, I wait for the prices to drop and just play GTA and other games.

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 04:59:09 AM

don't buy the guitar its not worth it, just go with the drums and the game and you'll be just fine with the prices

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 06:26:55 AM

honered1 - you still realise that even without the guitar thats £110, or $220 USD? Thats still $60USD more than in the US, 6 months after launch, and thats purely for the disk and a drum kit?

Thats hardly just fine for prices.......

Lol, this makes me laugh, everyone was like i want Rock Band, i want Rock Band!!! Now the same people are like im not paying 180 quid for a game. Lol.

Stick with Guitar Hero, its better and cheaper.

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 07:12:37 AM

Wow, I really feel bad for the Europeans on this one. Seems like they get everything over across the pond two times more expensive, and later than we do :(

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 08:02:19 AM

I don't understand why it's bundled in this way. Why would anybody buy the instrument pack and not the game? Bundle it all together, or bundle the game with 1 instrument at a lower price. That'd make more sense.

I was really excited about this game, as was my girlfriend and as was a bunch of my friends. But I'm sure as hell not buying at this price, and I don't see many of my friends bothering either. I hope this bombs like the PS3 on launch, until they lower that price point!

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 08:28:58 AM

What a rip off. Was expecting somewhere around £100 to maybe £120 for the lot but to cost more than the console itself?

Got to also agree with Waggly Bean that how they are bundling it seems ridiculous. They should sell the bundles as

1) All Instruments + game
2) Game + Drums
3) Game + Guitar
4) Game + Microphone

Only going to bother getting the drums and game as pretty sure the guitar hero add on or the 360 controller will work just as well.

Bet we are also charged more than the US for DLC in the EU

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 08:38:06 AM

does anyone know if this game is region free? maybe i could buy from USA to play here in the UK. any suggestions?

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 09:17:58 AM

Forsaken, I'm aware the game has to be shipped, so does pretty much every other game released in the EU, but normally this made up by increasing the price of the game by 10-20 pounds. Not 100. We all knew we'd pay more for it here, just not this much.

Anyway for those of you interested play.com has everything on sale for 140 pounds. Still steep but a bit more acceptable.

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 09:25:24 AM

I'm not buying it now.

Simple as. They can fucking sing for their £180...

If anyone is that serious about getting it... do this.

Import the Whole thing for about £140...

Sell the game on ebay £20?

Receive full bundle for £120..

Screw EA.

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 09:31:15 AM

It's also worth mentioning that if you were to buy the instument pack, game and every DLC song it will cost over £300! What extortion from EA, everyone should boycott or import from US!!!

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 09:46:31 AM

just like Manwell Pablo said play.com are doing all instruments for £100 and the game for £40 still its almost double the american price...

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 10:00:09 AM

Dudez, this is the stupedist thing i have ever heard. 1st America get just bouts all games b4 us, now the get all games and there alot better!!! I have had this on perorder for ages now im in doubt.

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 10:12:40 AM

How can they justify the cost in shipping???? The instruments will be made in China or somewhere in Asia, the disc will be pressed in Ireland. Surely it costs more to ship to USA than UK???

Thursday, April 10, 2008 @ 10:23:04 AM

Rock Band + Instrument kit = 179 pounds
Nintendo Wii = 179 pounds
Xbox 360 Premium = 199 pounds

Seriously, who is actually going to choose to buy RB when you can pick up a Wii for 1 penny lore or a 360 Premium for 20 pounds more?

And there is no possible way they can justify that cost, tax is only 17.5% in the UK and the controllers/discs will all be shipped from China anyway so it'd only cost a little more to send it to the UK than it would to send it to America.

They must be joking with a price like that. They want to make more money and sell more copies then Guitar hero and stitch us up by charging all that?

They're doing the worst move they could, I won't pay no more for an EA game, they cannot considers us as bitches that will pay millions for a game.
Also, I please every user that will read this comment to sign the petition against EA and their ridiculous brains in order to let them know who we are: http://www.petitiononline.com/RockBand/petition.html
