Guildford, UK – April 8, 2008Rock Band's European tour will be hitting the UK this spring! Harmonix, the leading developer of music-based games, and MTV Games, a division of Viacom’s MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), along with marketing and distribution partner Electronic Arts, Inc. In addition to the 58 tracks from the North American release, Rock Band will feature nine new tracks spanning German, French and UK hits including:

• Blur “Beetlebum” (English)
• Oasis “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star” (English)
• Tokio Hotel “Monsoon” (English)

• Les Wampas “Manu Chao” (French)
• Playmo “New Wave” (French)
• Die Toten Hosen “Hier Kommt Alex” (German)
• Juli “Perfekte Welle” (German)
• H-Block X “Countdown to Insanity” (German)

Rock Band’s unprecedented offering of over 70 songs to date currently available for purchase and download in the US will be made available in Europe beginning on Tuesday, May 27th. Each track will be available for 160 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360. Following that date, all new Rock Band DLC will be available simultaneously in the US and Europe on a weekly basis. For a complete list of Rock Band songs available for purchase to date, please go to http://www.rockband.com/dlc.

You don't want to know. £180 I've been told, I'll find the source.

"Instead, you will have to fork out for an Instrument Edition at GBP 129.99 / EUR 169 - comprised of the drum kit, guitar and microphone - then buy the game separately for GBP 49.99 / EUR 69.99."

Eurogamer.

"Wireless guitars will be sold separately for GBP 59.99 / EUR 79.99, while the drum kit will be GBP 69.99 / EUR 89.99."

I, like most people who will be getting this game, already have a Guitar Hero controller which will work with Rock Band. So I will be getting the game for £49.99 (that will probably end up being £40) plus the drumkit for £70.

yeah a bit expensive but were used to it over here i guess.
would have been nice if we got some more extra songs.

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 12:50:15 PM

And Australia? I assume that this means we get it too? Well not officially but retailers over here will import it. Almost everywhere now sells Dancing Stage Universe yet there was no 'Official' Release. When you boot that game up it even says "Only for sale in Europe"!

How about some games for us you greedy American corporations? And an unedited version of GTA IV!! That is CRAP we get a watered down version for twice the price. Pure stealing! Thanks to New Zealand though, we can import FULL R18+ game for even cheaper than we pay retail in Australia!

We go to war for America and give you troops but you don't give us games? Ha, that says allot about your culture...

ezekiel, I sincerely hope you're trying to make a joke...

But this is good news, now people will stop complaining every Monday when I announce the new Rock Band DLC for that week. :P

Harmonix already dug their own grave and now the price means that I definitely won't be buying this. It's a shame too because I really wanted this game, but I have principals. £170 is outrageous, especially with RB 2 on the way.

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 01:27:10 PM

£180.00! No chance, you can by a Xbox console Arcade and COD 4 for less than that here! £100 I may have considered, £120 at an outside, but thats ridiculous!! Wasn't it $200 in the States?

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 01:31:05 PM

Manwell apparently in the US it was the equivalent of about 85 pounds. 180 is laughable, what sane person will pay 180 quid for one game?

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 01:35:36 PM

180.00 EUR = 282.727 USD.....

180.00 GBP = 354.91 USD.....

Either way europe is getting screwed if thats true. With taxes I paid 163.97 USD...

Sorry guys, that is unbelieveable... I wouldn't pay that much... hell no. I would just buy the game by itself and go on ebay and buy the drums and mic separately from US retailers. The rock band guitar is a joke anyway.

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 01:38:43 PM

Absolutely ridiculous price, this takes 'taking the piss' to new heights. At a push, I might try to import the PS3 version for a sensible price, but this news has really soured my interest in the game altogether.

Seriously.. i will never buy from EA again! I've been waiting for Rock Band since the US realese, and today, when i saw the announcement, i jumped because i was so happy! And now... its only UK, Germany and France who gets the game..

No Rock Band for Denmark and a lot of other european countries! I just hate EA

they must be having a laugh. if i had £180 to fork out for a single game i would have alot more than my current gamerscore. i'd rather go to my local blockbusters and buy their whole xbox 360 pre-owned section.

Go to Play.com as they are selling the instruments package for 100 quid and the game for 40, pretty reasonable.

I wonder if they will release the extra tracks in the US. I really want to play Hysteria and Hier Kommt Alex. This sounds a little greedy since you have had to wait so long for it, but I'm rather jealous.

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 05:19:30 PM

hopefully you can buy the instruments separately.

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 05:43:09 PM

Three things:
1- Can't you just buy the EU game, than import the drumset and mic from the US? its not like they can region-encode controllers right?

2- I agree that that is a rediculous price, still...

3- Remember before they've said that they don't look at this as just another game, but a platform in and of itself, for distributing music. Would you play that much for a system? Its about the price of a PS3 right? Not that that excuses it, but I've spent around 200 on rock band and DLC already, it will probably be far more by the time they stop supporting the game and system.

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 06:26:38 PM

Hey guys thought i would tell you that play.com is selling all of the things for 99 quid not bad eh

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 06:30:07 PM

well apart from the game lol, only just noticed my bad well still £99 for the instruments is pretty good

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 07:44:30 PM

It's not just that it's expensive that's the issue, it's that it's going to cost more than double what it cost in the US, despite it already being half a year old. Even with reasonable deals like play.com, it's still going to cost a lot more than what the US RRP was back in 2007.

Fair enough charging 180 pounds if that was a reflection of its production costs, but they've been selling it for months at less than half that. They could have made it region free and had it available at an international flat-rate, but they're charging PAL territories more simply because they can.

Imagine the uproar if one region got GTA4 for a standard price, and Rockstar decided to keep another region waiting half a year and exploit the anticipation by charging them double.

Didnt the US get a "special edition" that included both the game and the instruments in the same box? Seems wierd that its coming in two boxes for us.
Both the game and the instruments are adding up to £140 on play.com. Still quite expensive but better than the £180 i first read. Ive been waiting aaaages for this though so il be suckered in whatever price :D

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 10:29:31 PM

Im sorry but i was really looking forward to this game, but the price tag is completely and utterly digusting.

£180 for both game and the instrument. THATS $360!!!!!! for £20 more in the uk i can uy a new 360 FFS. Once again our country is having to pay ridiculous amounts above everyone else.for no fucking reason, that is why i wil not be buying this game

In America the pack is $140 on amazon WITH game that translates to £70. so where is the other £110 from hey. money robbing bastards

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 @ 10:58:57 PM

• Blur “Beetlebum” (English)
• Oasis “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star” (English)
• Muse “Hysteria” (English)
• Die Toten Hosen “Hier Kommt Alex” (German)

I want these songs!

Anyway, glad to see more people will be on.

It's not about being able to "afford" £180...

Paying the equivalent of $360 dollars for a game that's been out for months???

You've got to be joking right? Late April fool...?

EA can FOAD.

Well £140 is a little better. Still very expensive.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
