EA Sports has announced its commentary team for FIFA 12 today, and (not at all) surprisingly Andy Gray won't be returning to the broadcast booth. Instead, he'll be replaced by respected broadcaster and former England forward, Alan Smith, who'll be joining mainstay Martin Tyler as the main commentary team in FIFA 12.

“Alan will bring a fresh, new perspective and insight to FIFA 12, working alongside the trusted and well-known voice of Martin Tyler,” said David Rutter, FIFA 12's Senior Producer. “As one of the top-tier broadcasters on the UK football scene, he brings enormous knowledge and expert analysis to the game so that we can deliver the most authentic FIFA experience this year.”

“The natural chemistry that Martin and I have developed working live matches for TV has transferred very well to the virtual broadcast booth,” said Smith. “I’m really looking forward to FIFA fans hearing our work this fall as we bring all the match day emotion and excitement to this year’s game.”

FIFA 12 will also feature two commentary teams for the first time, with Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend providing the analysis on tournament matches, picking up where they left on 2010 FIFA World Cup with 10,000 new lines of dialogue and match analysis. You'll be able to switch commentary teams to suit your preference during any match too.

FIFA 12 will be kicking off on September 27th in North America and September 30th in the UK and Europe. Check out our hands-on preview and interview with Rutter for more on FIFA 12.

Andy Townsend is the worst commentator ever, well, after John Motson that is.

The good thing to come out of Andy Gray not doing the commentry is it forced EA to get someone new and make much needed new lines of commentry.

@1 - That would be an incredible combo to have doing Fifa/PES commentry. :D

@7 - Why does it matter? When it comes to video games/movies/tv shows, I say 'fall' and I'm English.

OT: I like this years team. I never particually like Gray, so I'm not sad to see him go. Smith will do a good enough job, and I'm honestly just glad we didn't end up with someone like Ray Wilkins doing it.

It doesnt matter who announces are. English announces are BOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING. Spanish announcers are so stupid, they are the most hated announcers in Mexico. And a French guy sounds like he's having an orgasm when he pronounces "Adam Johnson"

#14 - so what nation do you think the best announcers come from? I hope you don't (wrongly) think it's America (and apologies if I've assumed incorrectly) because they're about as good at commentating on football as an Englishman would be at doing baseball, which is to say not very by comparison. Besides, English commentary, far from being boring, has a lot of the time been used by other English speaking nations due to being a better alternative that any of their own.

YES! Been crying out for more than one commentary team for years. I'm sick of hearing "Tevez and his bull-like approach" every time he touches the ball.

I loved the commentators fro the 2010 FIFA World Cup game and was just thinking to myself wouldn't it be great if they were in this years game? Well they are and I am definately looking forward to their commentating. In my opinion last years World Cup game had the some of the best commentating in sports video game history.
