Its good, looks like shit but very good, I also wouldnt rent it as its huge. I made that mistake and ended up buying it. In terms of it being on games on demand. It came out at 18 quid and you can pick it up for a tenner now. Hazard a guess how much GOD(games on demand , not the almighty ) will charge? |

Sorry? I heard it has massive potential of a Silent Hill with darker instances but I also heard it's on par with the frustration of Ninja Gaiden especially with "bosses". But that's just b/c it doesn't sound like my cup of tea. Buddy raves over it though. |

Fantastic game!!! For those on the fence, imagine a new Silent Hill-esque story that hasn't been written by some American Developer that couldn't have missed the point more if it was hiding under some marshmallows, then add characters that each have quirky and distinctive personality traits. From there, include some truly bewildering monologue, the opportunity to complete side-quests (when circumstances allow, of course) and structured development. That is honestly the best way I can explain Deadly Premonition without forfeiting story aspects. Just know that the game, while graphically horrible, is a story-tellers diamond in the ruff. Depending on the price though, I may well recommend to check the internet. I got my copy as a spontaneous purchase about 9months ago and it was only £20. |

| Some may laugh maybe, but this is my favourite 360 game, and the only game of the last five years which would make it into my all time top 10. Emotional, funny, intense, moving, and with some of the best characters to ever feature in any video game. York is a brilliant character, and his relationship with Zach is handled beautifully. A real masterpiece of game and character design, so don't be fooled by the sub-standard graphics. |

Easily one of my favorite games. Very quirky, very "Twin Peaks", and a great mystery story if you can get past the sometimes awkward controls, badly designed map and the last gen graphics. It's also not really worth using a gun unless you absolutely need to. Melee weapons are the way to go. Infinite Wrench or the secret guitar are easily the only things you should use throughout the game, weapon-wise. Has a lot of sidequests, it's easily 20 hours or more of gameplay (way more for achievements, because difficulties don't stack), and it's just got a great story and characters. As far as a horror game, it's scarier than Alan Wake or Resident Evil, but I wouldn't put it in terms of like, Fatal Frame or like, Dead Space (the first time) or something. It depends if you're jumpy over stupid shit or not. Having said that, it's a love it or hate it game, and it's super cheap. It was easily a game of the year for me last year. |

| This game is best described, as I read in one review, as a "beautiful train wreck". The game looks like a PS2 game, plays like an idiotic version of Resident Evil 4, has some awful animations, and incredibly misplaced music. But it's also an amazing, interesting game full of secrets to find, fun characters, and crazy gameplay mechanics. Definitely recommend this if you simply want something very unique :) |

I even admit it, ever so rarely do I sound like a complete unabated douche BUT in actuallity I'm not. It's the internet and it's influential. My game of the year for 2010. I was initially discouraged by the prologue as it drops you right into the odd combat system. Its a bit misleading as im sure many people get an initial impression of a poorly done resident evil, when if you stick with it the focus of the game changes to be more story based (and its a great story). Luckily the quirks of Francis "York" Morgan kept my interest through the prologue so I find what a great game it is. |

Yeah, Games On Demand is a ripoff. The entire reason digital distribution came out was a.) an easier/faster way to distribute and b.) would be sold cheaper because of less cost to distribute (no disc, no case, no manual, no gas for the truck taking the game to Best Buy's loading dock). But they keep the price jacked up and spew out excuses like "well, it takes bandwidth to deliver the game to you, somebody has to pay for that" when the amount of bandwidth used still costs far, far less than the materials involved in mass production of a physical product. If the aim is to compete with the used market, it's just bad business to sell stuff for twice as much as the used market offers. Especially when the used market copy gives you a disc, and most likely a case and manual as well. Frankly, the reason these games cost more than they should is because Microsoft is double-charging people for the bandwidth they use. So that if you subscribe to XBLA and play games online a few hours, fine, that's covered by your XBLA sub. But if you actually use it as intended and watch videos, download games, etc. then you are being nickel & dimed on top of your XBLA subscription just to cover the cost of Microsoft delivering DLC to you; be it map packs, movies, Games On Demand titles, etc. Netflix is the only exception to this business practice because the bandwidth costs are most likely picked up by Netflix (using money they already fairly got from you from your subscription to that service). Where the Xbox is just a frontend and all the activity going on it through Netflix servers. |

Yeah I'll pass, game belongs on PS1 or something, and the controls were terrible. I knew a lot of people liked it, so I gave it a go, but I just cannot see what people liked. Story isn't enough to make a game good I'm sorry to say. Just my opinion anyways, its definately one of those games that is either love or hate |

GOTY 2010 by a long long way. Despite what #57 says, a story IS enough to make a good game, just the same as it is with movies. You don't need a multi-million dollar budget spent on SFX for a movie to be good....look at the latest Transformers movie for example. Deadly Premonition is something that every true gamer needs to experience. Once you've played it, you'll find yourself thinking about it when you're not playing and you'll be compelled to tell everyone you know about it. Yes, the visuals are dated, yes the controls are awful, but the story, the writing, the sheer bizarrely twisted characters is enough to make this game a modern day classic. Think Silent Hill meets Shenmue. Think Twin Peaks. Think about the "delicious Turkey sandwich". "So says Mr. Stewart" |

@58 I just can't see it. I honestly gave it a good go, but I ended getting so frustrated with the clunky controls and terrible graphics that I could hardly focus on the story. For a retail game, it just doesn't hold up, the money I spend on a game is for the full experience, not just a story Don't get me wrong, i'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just trying to understand why people enjoyed it so much, as I'm usually quite open minded with these hidden gem style games |

#37 - Maybe becuase you're the kind of guy who thinks it is funny to make jokes about periods. #38 - 20 minutes? Hardly a fair amount of time to give a game to prove itself? I must admit, the controls dismayed me at first, but they soon become second nature, with a bit of persistence. And this is very much a game where the characters are the stars, so it is well worth going through the learning curve to get to the rest of the game... and the game really is an amazing achievement. Glad to see so many people supporting the game! GOTY for me as well. So says Mr Stewart. |

@ 58 - Gameplay plays an integral role - You don't want to play a game for so long that makes you want to dig your eyes out with the tail end of a rusty spoon, right? However, I've shlogged through some crappy controls due to a good story. It CAN help carry you to the end but games cannot depend on one or the other if both are major role players. @ 61 - Or...now this is a long shot - People could grow up? *gasp* Shocking theory, right? No, if there's one thing that's vividly present on this site, its that too many people take way too many things out of context and in turn, people jump on bandwagons. T'wer I any type of punky-goth, I'd call you all conformists...but I could care less hence why a couple of useless thumbs downs mean little to me. It's saddening that people would rather act 12 than their supposed age but again...why bother going off the deep end. I'm not gonna stop posting, haters arent going to stop hating. Vicious cycle. |
