Codemasters' Website Breached, Users Informed

Codies have confirmed that codemasters.com was hacked last week and some cosumer information was comprimised.

The publisher sent out an email to users of the site today, warning of the breach. All the data on the Dirt 3 code redemption page, the E Store, and the Codies database has been accessed. That includes customer names, addresses, email addresses and passwords, as well as Xbox Live Gamertags and IP addresses. Payment info remains safe.

"Whilst we do not have confirmation that any of this data was downloaded onto an external device," said the email, "we have to assume that, as access was gained, all of these details were compromised and/or stolen."

Codemasters has said that it shut the site down immediately upon realising the issue. They're working on a whole new site, but are planning on redirecting users to the Codies Facebook page until then.

Anything can be hacked. It just needs the right people to do it. I would imagine attempts get made all the time on various big sites.

I was trying to sign in yesterday to talk on the F1 2011 forum but it kept directing me to the Facebook page. It was pissing me off! Good to know that it's not a problem on my end, though having my personal data taken isn't the best news I've heard.

Guys its probably Lulzsec... not many people may know most of the hackers but he's part of the hacking group lulzboat, infamously known for taking out PSN recently... They hacked into the FBI as well... If I were you guys I'd remove all credit card info and bank info from online accounts for now...

@19 Lulzsec and Lulzboat had nothing to do with the PSN breach, they compromised Sony Pictures and have publicly stated many times they did nothing to the gaming side. Get your facts right ;)
