The Witcher 2 Could be Coming to Consoles as an "Entirely New Project"

Stop us if you've heard this kind of thing before, but it seems that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings could be making its way to consoles according to comments reportedly made by CD Projekt's Michael Kicinski on Polish television.

Speaking in an interview on Polish TV, Kicinski apparently stated that the developer is working on console versions of The Witcher 2, treating them as "separate projects".

"Yes, it is for us an entirely new project. But of course, [we are] already working on it," Kicinski reportedly confirmed. "You can expect that during such events as the largest fair in the world of computer games, E3 and Gamescom [we will] inform you about what we're currently working on."

The lead PC version of The Witcher 2 is set to release in May, but publisher Namco Bandai has yet to officially confirm any plans for console versions of the game. We'll stay cautiously optimistic on this one then, although until it's formally announced, we won't be getting too excited about a console version of The Witcher 2 just yet. Here's hoping we hear more at E3 or Gamescom.

  • That could be pretty cool. Already got the PC version preordered right enough, should be great. :)
  • I'm Polish and I have to say the Witcher too was the best Polish game ever. Unfortunately my PC won't run The Witcher 2 and I really want it on consoles.
  • lets hope that it does ! the game looked great.
  • Oh. I actually thought it was confirmed already, judging from magazine articles. Guess that was just them being hopeful.
  • I hope that by 'separate project' they do not mean 'cut down version'. The Witcher series has always sounded interesting, so fingers crossed. Maybe time to check out the books!
  • Is anybody else still waiting for the first one on consoles?
  • God, I hope so. That's the only PC game I'm actually envious about.
  • I'd like to see Witcher 2 on the 360 but only if it's the full PC version. I don't want a version that is dumbed down for us dimwitted console gamers.(not that I feel that way, but some PC game makers do!)
  • @6 CD Projekt originally had another conpany work on the console port but it was so bad that CD Projekt cancelled it
  • #2 I am not Polish, but you can say the 'best Polish game ever' without the Polish part. :) At least, it is without a doubt one of my favourites. Can't wait for the second, would've been nice to play it on the box, but ah well.
  • Never played the first one. I guess I should give it a go on PC. Maybe it can restore my faith in ability of making great video games after Bullshitstorm of my fellow Polish devs:-)
  • @9, It wasn't quality that was the issue, it was a dispute over pay that dragged on and in the end CD just said 'fuck it', dropped the port and decided to develop Witcher 2 for consoles as well as PC. @4 Although not 'officially' announced, it's been known for a while that Witcher 2 was being worked on for consoles. I would assume they're waiting to see if they can get the game to work on console and be worthwhile, so I guess an 'official' confirmation will arrive when CD Projekt say 'yes, this works on console'.
  • @5 Definitelly check out the books, they are great.I still have the entire series on my bookshelf.
  • I hope so because after hearING Adam Sessler on G4 talk about the first game I really hope they could release the sequel for the consoles, and if at all possible, also rerelease the original as well. Because, I hate playing games out of order. And I just can't stand playing with a keyboard. Can't stand it. Dual Analogs all the way lol
  • It;s an only way to make some real cash. I'm sure there will be console version of Witcher 2.
  • the first was amazing, such an underated game
  • I feel that the Witcher isn't for the Console especially when it wouldn't do that well on the Console front. @ 15. Games can be succcessful without appearing on Consoles like Doom, Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, Counterstrike, Rainbow Six, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Knights of the Old Republic, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Command & Conquer, Starcraft, and Warcraft are a few titles that hit it big on the PC without the help of a Console.
  • They'd really have to update the combat system if this were the case (when compared to that of the first game). Either way, I'd totally look forward to a console release. Not like I'm not buying the PC release as well.
  • I'd really look forward to this (as I play predominantly on the 360), if I wasn't gonna get it day 1 for the PC :P
  • I'm sure that it will be announced soon ;) Maybe we can get it even in 2011!
  • @17 um*wisper*those all went on consoles and some started on both ...>_>
  • @ 18 yeah, the controls were not meant for the a controller. It was originally slated for release however cancelled. The combat was cool it involved different stances and was timing based. It would be re-vamped. And the graphics would probably not be as good.. Also the nudity. I hope that remains the same though :)
