![]() | Rage's Matt Hooper Talks id Tech 5, Multiplayer & Keeping the Gameplay Fresh Written Tuesday, April 19, 2011 By Dan Webb View author's profile |
id Software know a thing or two about shooters. After all, they effectively spawned the whole bloody genre - so you have them to thank for the million and one shooters these days. Their next effort though - their most recent IP creation since Quake, I do believe (yes, that's 15 years ago!) - is Rage, a post apocalyptic, single-player orientated shooter. Having recently announced that Rage would ship with a Combat Rally multiplayer mode and a co-op mode, we picked id Software's Design Director, Matt Hooper's brain and asked why there was no competitive multiplayer - a la deathmatch - why they chose this route, how they'd keep the gameplay fresh and what the future held for the id Tech 5 engine. A lot apparently! Delve in to find out what he had to say for himself. Rage is scheduled for a September 13th and September 16th release in North America and Europe respectively.
