Warner Bros recently announced that they have acquired the services of Dragon Age & Crysis composer, Inon Zur, to pen the musical score for the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: War in the North.

Zur, who has composed more than 40 video games, 15 TV shows and 10 movies, recently conducted and recorded the composition with a 70+ piece orchestra and the Pinewood Singers choir at the infamous Abbey Road Studios in London.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is the latest title out of Snowblind Studios and is said to provide a new story that runs parallel to Tolkien’s masterpiece. The action-RPG is said to boast emotional storytelling, brutal combat and plenty of exploration, and Zur’s composition is said to compliment all elements of the game in order to establish War in the North as one of the biggest titles in Middle Earth lore.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is currently slated for a 2011 release.

@1 LOL

I really hope this game is going to be good, I kept my hopes relatively low for Conquest and got lucky.. but this looks more promising.

Inon Zur is an excellent choice. From Fallout 3 to Crysis 2, he certainly knows how to make epic and inspiring music and he always manages to capture the mood and setting in his scores.

Not sure about the game though. I've never bought a game solely for the soundtrack before, and I can't see that changing unless I win the National Lottery.

A really great composer. I hope War in the North will be blatantly better than Conquest, which pretty much sucked in every department.

Awesome! Like #7 said, this guy did the music in Fallout 3, and that is some of the best music I have ever heard. This game is shaping up to be great.

This guy also did the score for the two Champions games on PS2 (also developed by Snowblind)

Gets me more excited that is for sure, this is on my must-buy list, but will probably wait about a month or two after release.

Games like LittleBigPlanet 2 are on sale now for £20 at Game and that's been out less than 3 months. It's a common trend in game stores these days.

I am really looking forward to this, haven't played a good ol' hack n slash title since the PS2 glory days.
