EA Sports Potentially Planning Persistent Player Profiles

That headline is the best piece of alliteration we've ever done. Fact! Back on topic however, and EA Sports is supposedly planning to tie together gamer's profiles using cloud saves that will enable players to migrate their data between EA Sports titles.

"Today we're looking at a seamless experience across all our franchises," stated EA Sports president Peter Moore while detailing the brand's future during a marketing conference in San Francisco yesterday. "Regardless of where you are, what platform you have, what game you're playing, that you're constantly connected," he added. EA Sports games in the future will apparently be "connected experiences that recognise users and reward them for playing multiple games," said Moore.

EA's own version of persistence between games could utilise cloud data, which could potentially be carried from game to game. "We recognise (players) - that's the persistence - and their presence there gets its achievements and carries them from iteration to iteration," explained Moore. "It's no longer 'buy Madden 11 and then buy Madden 12 and start from scratch,' it is 'take everything that you've done and migrate it and move it along.'"

Moore then went on to say that persistence between EA games isn't far off, although he neglected to mention any specific titles. The initiative wouldn't be restricted to just EA Sports titles however. "It's not far away. It's certainly within (our) grasp," Moore continued, before stating that "this is how we envision the future of our industry, and this is how we at EA Sports individualise and personalise this as the future of our brand and ultimately the future of what Electronic Arts as a whole is going to do across all of its titles."

So, a persistent future for all EA games? Goodness knows cloud data will certainly be very useful. Interesting stuff indeed...

Since this is EA, owners of the most unnecessarily complicated website ever which tries to do a similar thing in keeping all your data together but failing, I'll assume this is a good idea that'll be implemented terribly.

i allready have an ea-account (from need for speed and sims on pc), an ubisoft-account (anno 1404 and assassin's creed), a rockstar-account (..).
like #2 said, there are so many sites and publishers that give accounts, but most of them make no sense (like just cause 2).
what happened to ubisoft's u-play? i liked it on assassin's creed 2.

This should have been done 6 or 7 years ago, but anyways seems kinda pointless just focus on releasing better games as a substitute.

@6 Considering cloud computing is only now coming into the mainstream, and it says in the article that it's not fully developed yet, how would you suggest it was done 7 years ago, a time when online gaming with consoles wasn't even that common!!!

this would be a great idea but be a major downfall if i am interpreting this correctly.

for example. tiger woods golf. you spend the whole year competing taking your character from playing 'backyard bob' to taking down tiger at insert name of tournament here.

then next years game comes out, and you have to start all over again. the problem is if they let you carry your gamer over what would you do with all those challenges. what rewards are we talking about? wouldnt they have to compeltely redo a lot of their games?

@8 I agree, lets be honest, all they will ever do is say, Give you a free extra course if you consistently buy each years Tiger Woods, or free "Ultimate Team" modes if you buy both Madden & Fifa. It's just going to be a way for EA to try and sell more games, with realistically very little rewards for doing it.

@#6: *Lol* this was done 6-7 years ago on last-gen consoles. Remember, we had a players profile there that collected statistics from all EA Sports-games of that year and included some general level-up for victories in those games.

In principal it's a great thing and should have been done earlier. In Sports-games as well as other titles - especially the Rock Band-franchise!

BUT: As I'm looking at the infamous Gun Club and the rest of EAs stupid websites, I'm not sure whether the world's biggest publisher can really mount this ride ... ^^

But one of the most fun things abou FIFA is building up your player from scratch and they should not do this

@1 Achievements won't stretch across games...I think that is pretty much never going to happen.

I think this article and what EA are trying to do is carry stats, virtual pro, general set ups across.

Basically you don't stat pro again, you keep going...same with manager mode and other modes across other games.

Sounds interesting. Not like this is something new and I rather like how I can view my stats on Bioware Social website and register all the games owned. I'd much rather see something like Halo Waypoint though, were I could view my stats, maybe get some bonuses for challenges and view all of my achievements...

I agree with #13...a consolidated EA Sports site that gave you credit and stats for buying/ playing their games year after year, would be nice, especially with some kind of rewards. Honestly, with EA having ALWAYS maintained their own servers, and your EA account having to be signed in on almost every EA game (all sports, most NFS, some others), I don't know what tangible difference a "cloud" server would really have. Their sports franchises are already criticized for how little difference there is from one year to the next, and now they want to MINIMIZE your gameplay?

Concept: Ea released ONE game for a sport (for example, MADDEN (notice, no year...)), then lets us pay a stipend once a year (like an online pass) that keeps you getting roster updates. Then if they make a new game mode or enhancements, you get it in DLC or a patch. THAT would be a "cloud" system I could support.

Speaking of EA and Madden...anyone know anything about this class action suit I got an email about?

Y'know so I guess what I'm sayin' is that like uh EA like sucks my balls. I think that's like what I'm saying, pretty much. Uh, they just suck my balls. Like I got this one ball here, 'E'. 'E' like sucks like this ball here. And then the 'A,' the 'A' sucks my other ball here. So the 'E' and the 'A' are just sucking both my balls. - Jeremy, Pure Pwnage

Im going to be as honest as i can, im a PS3 bitch in fact if SONY offered me to squat for a scooby snack hell, id constantly do it til the box was empty.

I much prefer the PS3 for the simple reason its a legacy i havent been able to shake since i was a wee 10 year old, its part of my gaming heritage.

That out of the way one of the best things i have seen offered by SONY is the ability to use cloud Storage is something i would love to see happen to more than a select few who are PS+ members, its simple to do and saves me the worry of potentially losing my save if after i quit the game i up my save, its inbred into me now and i think it will be an amazing help to not just PS3 gamers but also to Xbox users also, i mean i've had 3 xboxes one i gave to my step brother, one i currently have and one which got RROD, now the frustrating thing for me on my old tag wasnt that i could recover my tag, but that i lost my saves, it was only until the advent of the data transfer cable i was able to transfer my old files to my current slim xbox, personally i want to devote my time to both consoles i have.

Having the ability to save to a remote server is excellent and cross game content and profiles may have possible benefits such as discounts on DLC's, prior access to a closed Beta.

Without wanting to start an argument or a flame war it works excellently on my PS3, eliminates the need for taking my console to a mates to access the saves when its upped and access it by entering my ID on my mates console.

Its something i hope Microsoft are working on because given my use of it, it is an awesome tool to have

This could be a good idea, but I agree that it is kinda late for something like this. Considering the games have gone as far back as 06.

By the way, has anyone noticed the class action lawsuit going on against EA Sports and their football games? If you have bought a football game that relates to EA since 06, this would be something to look into. If you want to understand more, go here:

@#17/21: You've never heard of a portable storage device aka memory card/usb drive? Sounds like that would fix your whole losing saves/taking saves to your mates.

Why not a "Halo Waypoint" sort of service for all most-played franchises... i guess people would love some "Call of Duty Headquarters"...

Knowing EA they would probably charge the user 10 bucks to bring their character stats over

It's a great idea but knowing how EA is, they would probably charge you for it like they do with other things.

IF they do it, the system should be able to detect what challenges we've done with (for e.g o fifa series) virtual pro, and add new ones to the list as if we already start with a 'already built' pro, career mode will just get get boring super quick. They need to think this through if they are going ahead with this...
