Battlefield 3 To Get a Theatre Mode?

On the Battlefield battlefield, a lot can happen during the course of a single match and in Call of Duty and Halo, should something inexplicably insane happen, you can use Theatre Mode to go back and treasure the memories of that time you fired a Spartan laser randomly and destroyed five Warthogs (that's probably never happened) or the time you threw a grenade three miles and wiped out a group of bad guys.

Battlefield 3 could be getting something similar, according to executive producer Patrick Bach in an interview with Game Informer, as the developer is looking into ways to deliver Theatre Mode content. "We have functionality on our end that can capture movies. The hard part of course is our dedication to creating non-cheatable games contradicts the whole idea of doing that because we are running dedicated servers on everything and that actually makes it harder," said Bach. "We’re definitely looking into ways of delivering our version of this functionality, but I can’t give away any details."

In the same interview, Bach also stated that four classes is the "sweet spot", so there's unlikely to be any changes there, and customisation is being looked into, although there won't be anything outlandish to detract from the "professional" nature of the game. "It’s team A versus team B. It’s always a challenge – how do you personalise a uniform?" asked Bach in the interview. "Giving the pink rabbit hat to someone would make it fun, but if you’re running around and you don’t know what you’re shooting at you don’t take the professional gaming seriously in my book. So there’s a challenge between personalising and keeping it uniform. We will do more in that area, making sure that you can get your character to be more personalised both in a visual way and more specifically in the way you gear up."

There will also be a greater emphasis on persistence in Battlefield 3, so that when you reach a certain level, the experience doesn't simply end. So, you could conceivably play Battlefield 3's highly destructible, large scale battles in 24-player multiplayer, forever. We'll be able to discover whether that's a good or a bad thing when Battlefield 3 is deployed in autumn 2011.

Not any weapons that would make theatre worth it

Battlefield NEEDS a Theatre Mode, I have witnessed so many 'Holy shit!' moments in BC2 that I wish I could've captured them.

BF2 had a battle recorder which crashed a lot but still worked most times. This is one thing they need to look at, to save your Battlefield moments.

Halo has one, its a good MP game, but there are very few WTF moments in Halo. There's normally one a match in Battlefield. This is much needed.

@1 I dont like the game very much at all, but Call of Duty: Black Ops pulls of theater mode very well, and that has a very similar weapon set to this. More 'worthless' even, as it lacks Battlefields bigger Tank-possible explosions, more-believable Rocket Launchers and above all, the outright destruction mechanics. So I think this very much has a weapon set to make Theather worthwhile.

Theatre mode is the only thing that keeps Black ops from sucking cock. So im gonna pray that this happens, just the other day i squashed someone with a chopper in BFBC2 and i would had loved to have that one saved

I've seen some you tube demos of battlefield 3. I recommend watching them. Looks really good. You can't get the full effect of the graphics with xbox 360 or ps3. This is one of those games for PC.

What happens on the Battlefield should stay on the Battlefield. Just like art, you have to "see" a painting in order to be blown away instead of a picture of it.

Did that sound lame enough?

Totally agree with 4 the amount of times I have woke the house up with these epic moments but telling your mates is never the same as sitting down with a beer and saying WATCH this.Welcome this for sure, happy with just the 4 load outs but it does need the MW challenges so to speak use to love that noise when it came up with a challenge completed i.e fragged 5 people with 1 grenade. This game cannot come soon enough! Demo please

This could potentially be sweet. I'd love to have captured say a triple road kill with a UAV. Or lighting a sniper up with tracer darts and then locking on with an RPG. Or the 311 marksman headshot I landed all the way across isle.

Yeah! I'm hoping there's alot you can do with it's theater mode. Hopefully you can have multiple players watch together. I was disappointed when I found that you couldn't watch stuff with others in Halo: Reach and Call of Duty did a good job with it's attempt at a Theater mode. Battlefield has alot of awesome moments to capture and this will make sharing possible.

@7 How could I forget about the battle recorder for BF2 and 2142; I never used it in BF2 but in 2142 I never had any problems, they should look into it though definitely.

@9 People used FRAPs to put their videos on youtube but the videos they recorded were from the battle recorder usually.

Every multiplayer game needs to have this. Shooter, sports, whatever. And the guns don't matter you could go on a huge kill streak or any number of things that would be worth a second look.

PC IS so much better lol. But it has nothing to do with BF (well maybe a little, since they said they make it for PC first and foremost and adjust for consoles unlike BC and BC2:-P) I for one can't wait for this and as tempted as I am to get it for PC to enjoy at its fullest (ahh 64 player MP), I will end up getting it for 360 because more friends will play it^^

I hope they include one.. Halo has a great theatre mode IMO, Black Ops' not quite as good, even Uncharted 2 had a go with its "Cinema" mode but again, it wasn't as good as Halo's. The only thing I like about UC2s version was that you could save full games to your hard drive, more games than Black Ops offered in its stupid six slot file share..

@ 31 - Well Halo started the theater mode so it's applicable they have the best. The only other feature just as impressive is Forge World. I would much rather a Map Editor in most games rather than the option to buy packs of maps that I played on last years game. With Reach especially, I love the map packs but I have seen a bunch of very unique custom maps. I recently played in (and d/l'd to my file share) this intruiging map that looks like it's out of Assassin's Creed Virtual Training mode. Very impressive. Another was an Infection map that looked like a slanted tunnel going down with a vehicle garage on top and a teleporter on the bottom so you're constantly zipping down this narrow path trying to avoid zombie gravity hammers and swords. The most repetitive chaos I've had.
Either way, I'm certainly not the greatest player at all. I've tarnished my K/D spread from trying to build my Rear Admiral Commendation but I've at least got a slew of vids of my most impressive moments. But mainly play to have a good time. I could do the absolute worst in a match, lose and have 1 kill but if it's an assassination, I'm sated.

Every game made from here on out should have theater mode. I can't believe they don't.

Maybe when the next gen system comes out it'll have it built in.

@ 32. The early PC Community started Theater Modes in games while that crossed into the PS Community with Capture Cards. Bungie could have used the 1st idea of a self contained Theater Mode while they didn't do anything new. Forge and Forge World are jokes compared to the Far Cry Map Editor while thats another old PC thing called Modding. Don't forget that Far Cry was out before Halo 2. If you think that Reach has impressive maps then track down Far Cry 2 and look at the content that gets produced from that Community.
