Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds

Marvel vs. Capcom 3's Incoming Jill and Shuma DLC Get New Trailers
Written Tuesday, March 08, 2011 By Richard Walker
View author's profile

For some, Jill Valentine and Shuma-Gorath came as a nice little Marvel vs. Capcom 3 preorder bonus, but for the rest of us, the two extra characters will be made available as downloadable content from next week. At a price of course.

Capcom has released a couple of trailers to herald the impending arrival of the (sort of) new fighters on the Xbox Live Marketplace next week, with the usual OTT action and blinding special moves that you want from a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 video.

Check out the two trailers, then look out for Jill and Shuma on the Xbox Live Marketplace from March 15th for 400 Microsoft Points each.

400 MSP a piece when I can go and get the Halo Map Pack for the same price as the two characters combined? Complete fucking rip off, should be 400 for them both.

Fucking Capcom.

i have been wanting this game but havent gotten it, thinking that i could get the collecters edition and get both of the extra charaters, or wait and get the normal game and get the characters when they went on sale.
but seeing that it is 400 points for each i might just as well get the collecters edition.

Shuma reminds me of Akatune (excuse me if I spelled that wrong, hes from Blazblue).

Getting both of the characters :)

Also I heard these 2 are the only DLC characters ever going to be released because making them work for online is hard? Is that true?

Anyone got word on the compatibility with players who do not have this? Like if two players go online and one has the character(s) downloaded, but the other player does not own either?

...'cause if they can still use them, does that not constitute as a pay-for-power system? O_O

The price, pfft, kiss my ass Capcom.
On a positive note, I did love playing Shuma Gorath on mvc2 mainly due to how unique he was and tended to catch people off guard not used to or not knowing what he could do. People would actually rush at me after activating chaos dimension on a regular basis, then ragequit after I took half their lifebar with it, lulz.

Capcom is known for screwing people over with locked content. Remember Street Fighter. Only games I like from them is Resident Evil and they still have locked content(The versus mode).

Dammit Capcom what happened to you? Ever since the idea of DLC came out you've been whoring it out. Well I think Jill is the only DLC I'm ever paying for in this game because I'm such a huge fan of Resident Evil. Maybe Frank West too if they make him as DLC.

@ ALL OF YOU

you do realize this is a perfectly reasonable asking price? the collecotors edition was 70 dollars, came with some goodies but the main thing was the dlc, think about it for a second... it's your fault you didn't get the collectors edition.

so yeah, I'm gonna buy it eventually, along side the costumes. good job capcom.

I have to admit Jill is a little of a disappointment, as is the rest of the RE crew. Combos are a little bland with not a lot of room to chain into other moves from the same character. Her 3x hyper combo looks Interesting but that's about it. Shuma on the other hand has always been a personal favorite of mine and it seems he's (it's?) coming back for blood! His trailer was pretty Impressive with plenty of room for quick and rapid combos from all directions. I can't wait to add him to the team.

No one is forcing the haters to buy it at that price. Maybe just go play your dragon age with 40+ dlc packs and wait for these characters to go deal of the week. 400 msp a piece isnt that bad considering the work that goes into each character. Haters Gonna Hate, what can you do.

The only achievement I need is 320 missions. If these characters come with 10 missions each, then I will buy them all at once in a few months when they are DOTW...If they don't have missions, then I will only buy the characters that I want. So far, Jill is one of them. Not worth 400 points though, so I will be waiting...

Why are people hating on Capcom?
I mean sure they released a game that felt like playing a demo of a real game, decided to invest their time and money including characters no one wanted like M.O.D.O.K and She-Hulk instead of fan favorites like Venom or Captain Commando. There online service...wait what online service? as well as lack of rewards for beating arcade mode with each character (seriously, two pictures and a few lines of dialogue. Couldn't they animate the endings like Street Fighter 4?)

I show no compassion for capcom, fan boys can defend them all they want, the truth is they got lazy!!

@28 These characters where confirmed to already be on the disc, completely playable, just missing dialogue. The only possible reasons they are dlc is that 1 Capcom, couldn't finish in time or 2 they decided to hold off so they can milk an extra $10 from gamers. Its a rip off, if you bought the collector's edition, you were paying ten extra dollars for about $24 worth of extra content, the $3.99 comic, and around $10 for the unlimited one month digital comics code. Now that's a pretty good deal if you wanted all the content. Now there are many gamers out there who just couldn't fork over the the extra $10 for the collector's ED or missed their chance to preorder it. So Capcom is still making you pay $70 for their game and those characters minus the comic and code. Look at other dlc and prices, Capcom charged 400 msp for that online versus mode for RE5, an online mode that allowed you play with a partner against two other players with multiple maps and game modes. That's a good amount of content for only $5, they charged 400 msp for Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, a short but decent arcade game, now they charge 400 msp for 6 costumes in MVC3, costumes that offer nothing to the gameplay and they are charging the same for characters. 400 for both characters would have been a better deal, for 200 a piece.

People are actually defending the price on this DLC? It IS a rip-off, folks. Especially considering they're already on the game disc. You can say "WELL NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO BUY IT" but that's not the point. It's the principal of the thing and a lot of us do actually want these characters.

400 Points for just 1 character and both of them come from Marvel vs Capcom 2.
Maybe if they put a new character that never enter the sequel should be more worthy to pay 400 points.

Too expensive and im poor :(

@16 - I don't know if it's any indication, but the new costumes show up if only one person has the pack. I'm pretty sure this was not the case with SSFIV.

Personally, I'm happy with the fact that DLC characters exist at all. Sure, I would rather they be cheaper and they're not the characters I want, but I'm still excited for them.

It's awesome to fools get angry at the price of 400pts each and then say the Halo Reach Map pack is better value for 800pts.
Yup, a bunch of maps Bungie made during their lunch break using Forge is totally worth 800pts.

Im pretty sure how this will work for people who dont get these characters but will end up playing against them online, is that come the release date of them there will be an update for the game that everyone will need to get in order to play online and then if you want the characters you'll pay for an unlock key.

I think i'll hold out this time getting any characters as there are going to be extra characters added later on (capcom unity is doing polls on what people want) and then get them as a bundle later on. Pretty much how alternate costumes worked on street figher

400 pts for a whole new character in a fighting game seems fair to me. Its not a map or a palette swap. People act like its sooo much money, but its $5.. xbox $200, LCD TV $900, TE Stick $150, MvC3 $60 and $5 is too much??? You hippies need to get a job. Its like buying a $1200 laptop and bitching about a $20 OPTIONAL laptop bag..

@#21 - Not only was that US only, but if I am not mistaken, the $10 extra you pay is basically for the DLC and a different case.

Consider the fact that 90+% of the people are not going to/probably didn't use the comic site thing and that the comic is not really much of anything, you're basically paying the same price.

So you can go "HURR DURR, COLLECTORS GOT IT FOR FREE" but they didn't. They paid the same that everyone else is, but they got a free mini comic and a pass for something they aren't going to do.

The DLC isn't free with the Collector's Edition. Anyone who really thinks that is just deluding themselves.

While it wasn't 'free' it was actually a bit of a steal to get the collector's edition instead.

You get an amazing looking case. I know that sounds lame but seriously, I have tons of collector's tins and I've never been so impressed with one before except for MVC3's case.

Also you get I think a free 1 month trial to marvel comics online.

You also get a neat little comic book that looks like a decent and quick read.

Then you get the bonus characters.

The extra $10 is WELL worth those bonuses IMO.

@37 At least Bungie put some fucking time and effort into the map pack and it wasn't INCLUDED ON THE FUCKING DISC. Capcom have just gone "Hey, let's not have Jill and Shuma on the disc completely, let's give them an unlock code to unlock the rest of the characters SO WE CAN MAKE MORE MONEYZ FROM THE FOOOOOLZ!"

Anyone who buys these characters are just idiots, all your going to be getting is a very miniscule sized unlock code download which will unlock them on the disc for you.

At least the map packs aren't an unlock code you fucking fruit.

Doc Oct is supposedly going to be one of the next download contents as when the game was hacked he is listed as a character so he's already planned it appears.
@33
They started working on them before the game went to manufacture, so they put what was done on the disk so there wasn't so much to download, actually that makes quite a bit of sense as it's easier to add the unfinished part than to add the whole character when they don't need to.
Anyway on topic I'll be getting these when they get released, then I'll get my head kicked in using them I need to get better at online

Shocking shocking shocking. How old is the game? And sure as shit the characters would have be almost finished for balancing moves, so release It free for all the wonderful fans to get who bought it instead of fleecing them more.
Seriously DLC is getting out of hand. Unfinished games we're buying now. Paying sometimes up to £60 for the real game.
Maybe it's best to just fuck off the developer (EA I'm looking at you) and wait for the game of the year editions. Rant over*

Chances are that since these were collector's edition characters they are on the disc & the DLC is just a key... just like that Bioshock 2 multiplayer DLC. That way it won't split the community.

If not there will probably be an update or optional free DLC to prevent the split of the community. Like what they've done for just about every game out there recently.

SSFIV had the free costume catalog.
Dead Rising 2 had the pre-order costume compatibility DLC.

How long did it take in development that they really didn't have enough time for 2 characters. From them hacks, the "incomplete" data on the disc don't look so different from these reveal trailers, so what was with their apology about not having enough time?

Nothing against the price, Blazblue was like $7 or $8 each. Its better than costume at same price. I'm not too excited about these 2 though, I think I'll pass. Maybe when they announce someone not on the disc.

I went back and played MvC2 and laughed... I'm really glad of the adjustments and I understand why they left out a ton of characters.... but I can't say I'm happy with the ones they chose completely.

As far as Jill goes... the character looks AWESOME to play..but does NOT remind or really resemble Jill in anyway... when did she become a high flying kickboxer and a blonde? At least toss the STARS hat on her or something..shesh!

Another note- it seems as Capcom will ALWAYS screw us on the DLC... characters that should have been included, or modes. From RE:5, to $18 charge for costumes on the disc for SSF4.

Lets have some GENUINE add-on content that doesn't feel overly 'pre-planned' or like a scam to make the price of the game $20-30 more than it should have been.

I know I just continue to ring the same bell, but c'mon. This is utter horse crap.

Characters that should be on the disc RIGHT NOW are Jill, Shuma-Gorath, Frank West, and Megaman. AT LEAST these four. I'm sure they still have numerous more up their sleeves to screw people over. I'm even assuming that there will be a total of 8 DLC characters costing you a total of $40USD on top of the $60 you paid for the game itself.

Again, I'm waiting for a SSFIV-style release, where MVC3 will just include all of the new characters and even more for a cheaper price. Way to drive the stake deeper, Capcom. Way to go.
