Windows Phone 7 Update Coming Next Week?
Written Monday, January 31, 2011 By Richard Walker

Reports from LiveSide, which has tracked several French Windows Phone sites, suggest that Microsoft is preparing to launch its first update for Windows Phone 7 on February 7th. Apparently the update will streamline start-up and resume times and introduce the very useful copy and paste feature to the device.

There's no evidence to support these reports however, and WinRumors notes that the timing seems odd given that Microsoft chief, Steve Ballmer is in Barcelona on February 14th for the Mobile World Congress, where it's believed that Microsoft might reveal a second bigger WP7 update. The site does go on to confirm that MS has Released to Manufacturing (RTM) its first update codenamed "NoDo", however.

So, there is definitely a Windows Phone 7 update - or indeed updates - on the horizon, but whether that proposed February 7th date is in fact accurate, is questionable and should therefore be chalked up as rumour for the time being.

Microsoft is also working on overhauling the WP7 browser and may even reveal plans for Internet Explorer Mobile in April. Flash support and HTML5 support is also believed to be in the pipeline, but again, this should be taken with a pinch of salt for now.

[Thanks, Crazyreyn]

@2 I think he might be referring to the phone itself, not the update. But I could be wrong ;)

we need the following: 1.MORE GAMES 2.settings to disable smart buttons while gaming - touching the back, search or home button while gaming is extremely lame and frustrating 3. Ability to download the games on our Phone directly from the Zune software without active Wifi connection!

ONLY THIS NEEDS TO BE UPDATED!!!!!!

Update sounds good. I haven't had any issues with gaming (like pressing the wrong buttons) but maybe that's just me.

Not much beats slaying zombies (Twin Blades) while on the road.

:P

@4

I've been able to download games over 3G, are you not in America? Maybe that's it.

@6

Be different! Be bold! Everyone I've shown my Samsung Focus to says it's the coolest phone they've ever seen, and even my die-hard iPhone friend says he really thinks it has a shot to make a name for itself. The app Marketplace is the fastest growing app store of all the options out there. And duh, it gives you gamerscore!

I love my phone. So glad I went for the Windows version, rather than one of the other Android HTCs. Flash implementation for the browser would be amazing. Mainly (obviously!) for viewing things such as the Home page banner on this very website... and embedded YouTube videos.

updates I would like please: 1. Custom ringtones 2. Bug fixes (HTC HD7 keeps crashing when on charge overnight and sometimes with txt and web browsing)

That's all for the time being, not too much to ask.

@4
spot on mate, these are the things i would like to see.

but i would also like to see the ability to sort the marketplace (by price / name / release date etc) and maybe a search function for it too.

a few other things i would like are the ability to setup my own ringtones, ability to create a playlist on my phone rather than through zune

i have an HTC HD7 myself, the games i have played have been fairly good (to say i haven't spent more than £2.50 on a game) some prices are a little steep at the moment (and my iphone owning friends like to let me know about it, assassins creed less than £1 on iphone, £5.49 on wp7, ahh the price we pay for achievements)

I love my WP7! I have the HTC HD7, and it is great... Very fast, and much better than my MyTouch ever was.

I agree that there needs to be an option to disable the smart buttons during game play.

Like everyone else has said
-Disable Search/Bing Button in games
-Custom ring tones (ffs seriously how can a phone not allow you to select mp3s nowadays?!)
-Downloading through USB connection (Not everyone has wifi, and us cant make your own, no ADHoC accessability?!)
-Allow purchaces in points, not just card transfer!
-Make the games cheaper, i know they have achievements but still, 79p > £2.49 is some markup!
-A proper SatNav!!!!!!! Im not paying £5PERMONTH to Orange for something i had for free on my last Win6phone with them

love love love my HD7, best phone ever!! i gave up Android for it.
the screen is HUGE and so clear and the camera is awesome totally beats my nexus.... the only issues i have with it is that it chews though my 3g data plan! so i have it switched off... 90% of my day is at work or at home and these places both have wi-fi so i barely even miss it.... and i can turn it on at any moment anyway.... i would love a front tile that toggles off and on the cellular data but not a big deal!

I work for at&t and chose the Samsung focus.Love my phone,games with gamerscores and the fact that they are planning on adding cut and paste is sweet.Ringtones like many have mentioned would be nice aswell as flash players.Other than that I can't complain about my phone.

To add to all of the above criticisms, they NEED to fix the marketplace crashes. I'm not sure if it's isolated to the Omnia 7, but having to reboot the phone every time the marketplace decides to take a shit is frustrating.

And my god those face buttons. How many times I've accidentally brushed them while playing Project Sunburst is unreal. I would love that to happen, but I don't see the option appearing for a few more updates yet.

Now if Orange could actually sort their coverage out too, I'd be set. Even with the combined T-Mobile coverage, I get awful reception, and I live incredibly close to a cellular mast.

Anyone know if we'll be able to have custom ringtones? That's my one complaint with the phone. Otherwise it's pretty perfect.
