i'd love it to have bad fmvMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 08:52 AM
She's gone from being a lady to a tramp.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 08:55 AM
@#2 - you can tell she's a tramp from a single photograph of an actress? Really??Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 08:58 AM
#3 - can't you? what a whore...Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 08:58 AM
If it is as gritty and dark as the cover suggests then it should prove to be an awesome return for the franchise.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 08:59 AM
@2: So, she's going to be the main character of a Disney film and have an iconic scene that involves her eating spaghetti and meatballs with herself?Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:02 AM
Is that Natalie Portman?Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:04 AM
This is going to be one my must buy games of next year.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:07 AM
@5 Indeed, but as long as the outfit is the same its all good :PMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:11 AM
I prefer the old LaraMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:11 AM
I think that except for her lips her face is rather male shapedMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:22 AM
That's great, but I still want to know the cheat to get Lara naked in Tomb Raider 3. TBH, I'd quite like another Lara game like Guardian of Light, maybe team her up with another character from history. Slaying the undead with Abe Lincoln?Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:38 AM
She's got some sort of mullet thing going on there, looks terrible. The game seems interesting though.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:41 AM
Is that a bow? Laura Croft: Dinosaur Hunter?Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:41 AM
too all the idiots above who say its an actress its a damn CG picture you foolsMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:56 AM
@13 that's what I was thinking but you can see her ponytail in the second pictureMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 10:03 AM
I wish games would stop feeling the need to "reinvent" characters as darker, more mysterious versions of their previous selves. I get the impression game studios still think it's a bold move to recreate characters in this "edgy" way, but it's such a cliche of its own now that it'd be bolder if they concentrated on making TR games as good as they used to be again without such gimmicks.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 10:04 AM
Looks interesting. Makes me sad that my GI subscription expired just a couple months ago. Oh well, whatever information in the mag will make its way onto the net.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 10:05 AM
she looks terrible, how can she pose for a photo covered in dirt and blood?Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 10:09 AM
I really enjoyed previous Tomb Raider titles, hopefully this one will turn out good as well. :) I am not going to judge based on one promotional picture that isn't even an in-game screenshot.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 10:12 AM
Lara's looking less like Angelina Jolie and more like Hillary Swank!Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 10:15 AM
I look at that pic and think lead character from hydrophobia(need to check game title!) But all in all i like the new look the orginal Miss L Croft looked like a jordan wannbe made for teenage fanboys to fap over. Could be good will keep an eye on this "Reboot"Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 10:32 AM
@7 hmmmm you could be right there...Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 10:38 AM
Looks way to much like Jake Gyllenhal (who cares how you spell it) from Prince of Persia...Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 10:57 AM
@3 as if that image is a photo - look at her noseMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 11:13 AM
Considering her boobs have been shrinking with each new game, as she gain age, does this mean...!Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 11:16 AM
Why are you people complaining about the picture? First off, I'm assuming that it's THE first picture to the game EVER. Like things aren't able to change. Look at Infamous 2 for ps3, they had a whole new look for Cole but with all the complaints, they went back to the old look. Personally, I think it's the best looking Lara yet. Now it's you peoples cue to flame.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 11:21 AM
@6 I love you...... best.. comment.. everMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 11:25 AM
i can see jessica alba in that somehow. not that there would be anything wrong with that picture tho :pMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 11:35 AM
I really like the direction they are going with this, and I can't wait to find out more. Lara Croft has become a real favorite character of mine this gen and I'll definitely keep my eye on this.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 11:41 AM
I think it looks fantastic. A beautiful image. Haven't played any of the recent games, but I'll be keeping my eye out on this one.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 11:41 AM
#29, jessica alba went through my head too. mabye she might do the next movie which would be a prequal instead of a sequal.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 11:42 AM
they couldn't really re-invent her as a darker version of herself you can't get darker than a grave robbing murderer can you ? seriously, all she does is steal anything that isn't nailed down, and kill anything that moves they can try reinventing the controls, maybe to some that work, and do as you tell them, rather than jump in any random direction that you don't want her to, and stop the retard from having a spasms if you roll near some rocks or they could just release 1 & 2 (also known as the good ones) on xbla and then kill the franchise, but that'll never happenMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 11:45 AM
@32, now that i would like to see anything with jessica alba = win IMOMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 11:46 AM
@21 thats not a good thing I havent played a tomb raider game since original playstation. I am not interested in any newer tomb raider game. I think a reboot is exactly what the franchise needs, its the only thing that will get me interested.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 12:24 PM
@33. #1 was the best TR game released to date, #2 was quite possibly the worst . . . We went from Tomb Raider to City Raider, from killing Dinosaurs & creatures to popping Dudes in the face. Provided the atmosphere of the first game (or #3, which was probably a close 2nd) is re-created then it's all good as far as i'm concerned. Be nice to see them go back to fighting Winged Demons in Egypt, forcing your way through snowy caverns, or battling past the Greek Gods to get a set of Keys. (TR was my first PS1 game, and I must say, it'd be fantastic as a re-release on XBLA, wouldn't it?) Liking the gritty approach, it did have that feel at points earlier in the series, before things got stupid ;-)Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 01:02 PM
I lost interest as soon as they mention "Square Enix."Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 01:24 PM
i think see looks like a badass i want to play with her.. i mean as her with her xbox.. i mean my xboxMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 01:27 PM
Another reboot? How many is that now?Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 02:10 PM
Wait, another reboot? How many times are they going to reboot this series?! I'd rather have another Tomb Raider game with the old Croft. I like the fact that Crystal Dynamics if working on the title, but I cringe that Sqaure Enix is working it too. Thy don't do so well outside RPGs. I guess we'll see when the game gets released.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 03:17 PM
Needz moar b00bzMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 03:28 PM
i dont really care if they changer her face but if they change her huge rack ill be pissed lolMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 04:06 PM
I agree with #42, big boobies are EVERYTHING! She can play with my box anyday!!Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 04:34 PM
@37 It's very sad that's the case nowadays. Squeenix is fast becoming the new Sega.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 05:27 PM
Its basicly still Eidos but they just have their Square-Enix Sticker on it. I'd also like to see some TR Anniversary-like Remake for Tomb Raider 2 as well.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 05:28 PM
But basicly Crystal Dynamics had to reboot since they where running into the same mistake Core did; releasing the same game with just minimal changes way too often.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 06:45 PM
Been a TR fan for years, and this is a welcome change for me. Underworld was pretty cool but stuff like Legend proves it needs a reboot, for better or worse. And I think the new face model is hot :FMonday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:10 PM
Nice. I liked it a lot.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 09:53 PM
Sexy.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 10:22 PM
reminds me of a young hillary swank. I can see where the devs were trying to go with the "her sex appeal is her not trying to be" and lots of remakes having more realistic characters but unlike the new dante i may actually actually on the fence about this one. we'll get a glimpse in the next few weeks anyway. Also does anyone else think her hair cut makes her look like shes got a giant mullet?Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 10:47 PM
For some reason,I can't see that character model having a British accent. Hell, they might just decide to reinvent everything with no similarities at all, which I guess isn't a bad thing after all seeing how bored I got with original character and the original games. And BTW, a Tomb Raider game in which stars Lara without an accent... Now that would kick ass.Monday, December 06, 2010 @ 11:32 PM
So...how about that new Dante?Tuesday, December 07, 2010 @ 01:43 AM
New Lara Croft? I like that model on the cover. I mean, I really do. That face with a british accent? I don't even care what the game is. Card battling. Whatever, I want it.Tuesday, December 07, 2010 @ 03:10 AM
Hmmm this could be interesting. Either an epic win or a COLOSSAL fail. #45 Wouldnt we all man. I'm still waiting for Capcom to realise people want Multi-Platform Resi 2 Remake. #40 Square-Enix bought Eidos in the recession so their name is on everything. It even appeared on Kane & Lynch 2 so thats nothing to worry about. I just hope to god they dont fuck this up...Tuesday, December 07, 2010 @ 03:54 AM
@54, saying that "SquareEnix" appeared on Kane and Lynch 2 isn't exactly comforting....if anything, most around here would worry more :-pTuesday, December 07, 2010 @ 04:45 AM
I think it is good that they are shaking things up a little with a new look, as long as it is executed well and the core of the game isn't changed radically, which , staring at digital booty aside, is the reason we love the game. The CGI looks very impressive on the shots above but as many others have said it is only a first glimpse type shot and will no doubt go through many other phases before the final product relaease. I can't wait, any new Tomb Raider is fine by me!Tuesday, December 07, 2010 @ 07:00 AM
Got the magazine in the mail yesterday and after reading the article I can not wait for this game. It sounds awesome.Tuesday, December 07, 2010 @ 08:06 AM
@55 well SE dont really do anything, they just put their name on the game. like Publishers. They just fund the release and put it under their name.Tuesday, December 07, 2010 @ 05:36 PM
And I can;t even open my digital copy of GI. Fucking bullshit. I will have this straightened out first thing tomorrow morning!Wednesday, December 08, 2010 @ 08:15 AM
Man, oh, man! You KNOW this is going to be like no other TR game when Lara has a herp outbreak on the teaser image!

Wow. We suspected that Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics had grand plans for a Tomb Raider reboot, but we never would have pictured it like this. Game Informer's cover for its January 2011 issue, boasting a huge Tomb Raider reveal, has an image of an altogether different Lara Croft, looking tough and stoic with a bloodied and muddied face.
On the back cover is a huge shipwreck and the skies are dark and grey as a storm rages in the background, indicating that things are going to be extremely treacherous and testing for what is essentially a brand new Lara as the Tomb Raider franchise starts from scratch, simply entitled 'Tomb Raider'.
“Forget everything you knew about Tomb Raider,” said Crystal Dynamics' Darrell Gallagher. “This is an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other.”
Game Informer's exposé is a 10-page world-exclusive reveal that looks into the reinvention of Lara as a young and inexperienced woman who must go through some serious physical and emotional trauma as she fights for survival.
Game Informer's January 2011 issue will be hitting newsstands on December 11th.
