Turning Point: Fall of Liberty

Turning Point Developers Respond to Player Feedback

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty fell under a barrage of criticism from gamers last week when they tried out the demo. They and we were disappointed that such a fantastic concept ended up as a shoddy shooter. But fear not, the developers have responded to the criticism in the best way possible... With action.

Recently, the development team over at their IGN blog posted that they had fixed a few issues that plagued the demo and reminded us that the demo is now over 2 months old.

They wrote...

"We just wanted to take a moment to personally thank everyone who took the time to download the Turning Point: Fall of Liberty demo and to comment on our work in progress. All of your feedback is very valuable to us and we are working hard to meet your expectations with the final version of the game.

Since the demo was finalized, the team has put several months of work into the code and we thought you might like to know that a number of questions raised by those trying the demo will be positively addressed in the final game.

For example:

Optimized targeting and movement: Optional control settings have been refined to alleviate sluggishness in the slowest setting and the 'on ice' feeling at the faster settings. Also, a user-defined soft lock has been added which means that controls can be set so once an enemy is hit with a bullet the crosshair will ‘stick’ to the target.

Refined AI behavior: The dynamic intelligence and pathfinding for enemies has also been enhanced. The 'hot point' based system should add to Turning Point’s replay experience.

Ammo levels and grappling optimized: Up until final submissions, the team has been listening to playtest feedback and doing everything possible to create a ‘civilian at war’ feeling. The end result is an experience more visceral than the demo, relying less on repeated ammo refills, and more on the grappling and the hand-to-hand combat.

Final Mip-mapping and texture levels: The art team has also been able to further optimize lighting, textures, and effects throughout the title.

Again, thank you for all your feedback and support as we finalize Turning Point: Fall of Liberty and continue to do everything possible to deliver on our goal of creating a fantastic and entertaining experience for you.

Sincerely,

The Team at Spark Unlimited"

Let's just hope that this isn't just some spin on the whole situation and that the game is genuinly as good as the concept. Call us naive, but we still have some sort of hope that this game will improve vastly.

I can't comment on any of the purported negatives of the demo since I haven't played it yet but this message from Spark makes it seem like the project management is a bit dodgy. Unless they put out another demo I can't see any reason to calm one's fears about the title.

Sadly, I don't think this will help this could-have-been amazing game.

Perhaps I will rent it...

Either way, even with the demo's flaws,I still liked it....i may buy it now if what they are saying is true.....

If they actualy follow up like they say they will, this will be a great sign that game demo's can be a great thing not only for consumers, but for developers to get mass feedback and create the best experience possible.

Good cause the demo didn't live up to the gameplay seen on gametrailers. The very first beginning was good.

I don't see the reason they released the demo in that state- it's done far more damage then good. Interested in the full game though, just to see the story and how they progress it

If they do fix it like they say I might think about getting it, still doesnt seem like they are addressing the slow movements of the characters.

Yay, my favourite upcoming ACTION/ADVENTURE game is getting even better! Sounds good.

Guys, this isn't a first person shooter and I'm glad they're making it even less of one.

I thought the demo was really good, same with the red alert-esque premise. The only thing I thought was wrong with it was the graphics. If they fix those then this will be a hit.

the demo needed serious work on the graphics and ai. It shouldn't have even been released.

I highly ...HIGHLY doubt the full game will be any better than the demo. I mean... uhh.. the game does come out on February 26th. It's highly impossible that they're going to majorly upgrade the graphics and AI in 1 month lol... Yeah IMO this game is like Hour of Victory. People compare it to CoD or something at first then the actual game comes out and it's crap. Sry if I'm overvoicing my opinion, but I just don't think this game has much hope of being cool, no matter what the developers say.

Sadly CodeMasters is good at only one thing- racing games. Although(you may disagree)I thought Jericho wasn't all that bad of a shooter; it just lacked replay value for me.

I really hope they can learn from the feedback to make this game match the hype it's story and concept has produced. I for one am very impressed with the idea of the game and the eerie turn of events portrayed within it's story- but like a few have commented before; this may become a 'rent-only' title...

thats one step forward bullshit
the game is gonna released soon , and important changes couldnt be done in such a short span of time !
or else they would do it but expensive !

and why make a shitty game like the demo when you know it is and that you could do better

awkward!!!!

Ive seen better N64 FPSs than this one... It felt like I was a 89 year old man drugged up on valium with an airsoft gun trying to kill these not-so-smart krauts.

I really hope this works, I've loved this concept from the beginning, but even though I enjoyed the demo it was also a let down. Hopefully they'll pull it together and give us an awesome game

Sadly ive moved on from WW2II its been done to death and in comparison to COD4 this game pales. The demo sucked balls badly the AI was awful the controls were horrendous the graphics looked pre original xbox and the speed was like the characters were walking in 5 inch of liquid asphalt!! This games problems cannot be fixed with a quick patch less than 4 weeks before launch its impossible!! its another addition to the buy me please pile of the bargain bin im afraid!! Stick to racing games guys FPS aint your specialty!!

The game is going to be horrible at the end. In case nobody knows, Spark was behind the whole terrible and horribly developed Call of Duty's entrance into the console world, with Call of Duty: Finest Hour. Which was just as buggy, lazy, and uninspired as this one is. I've played and owned COD FH, and it was bad *PERIOD*. When I heard about Turning Point, I thought this may be interesting. But once I saw that Spark was developing it. I must say that the demo lived up to my expectations: Complete crap.

For £40 a game, I'd better be impressed within the first 5 minutes or I won't be happy. this game is tripe.
