To celebrate the 20th anniversary on Paramount’s classic – and I use that term very loosely – racing flick, Days of Thunder, they today announced that development of Days of Thunder: Arcade was underway at Piranha Games.

Coming this winter, Days of Thunder: Arcade takes its inspiration from the film of the same name and pits you against the likes of Cole Trickle, Rowdy Burns and Russ Wheeler in a bid to rule the road. Incidentally, Michael Rooker, who plays Burns in the film and your coach in game, will lend his voice to the game.

 

The single player career will see you face off against the big name players from the film who are said to have their own AI to match the style and personality of the characters that you know and hopefully love.

In Days of Thunder: Arcade, you’ll be expected to “drop the hammer” by drafting behind your opponents to gain the momentum necessary to climb the ranks on the track, “hit the pit” and you can even take advantage of the focus feature to avoid crashes – in other words, slow-motion.

With its single player career mode that includes customisation and sponsorship, and up to 12 player online multiplayer, including a “Derby Mode” whereby players are encouraged to deal damage to one another, Days of Thunder: Arcade is looking to tap into your DoT nostalgia this coming winter.
