Brad Pitt In The Frame To Play John Marston in Red Dead Movie?

According to Hollywood gossip site, ShowbizSpy, Brad Pitt could be in line to star as John Marston in a Red Dead Redemption movie adaptation. Dirty his face up a bit, give him a couple of scars and we can almost see it, and given the great performance Pitt delivered in elegiac Western 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford', he could be the perfect fit.

That's if what Rockstar is currently calling rumours are true, of course. What's more, there's an anonymous source involved, which has us reaching for the good old salt shaker, but a Red Dead Redemption movie might be a capital idea nonetheless.

"This is an exciting project with a great character at the centre of it," said the source. "The idea is to make this in the style of an epic Western movie but with a few modern touches."

The source went on to add, "Brad is perfect for the role and he is being given first refusal."

Who knows? It could happen.

  • What is this? Mr and Mrs Marston?
  • Inglorious Cowboys!!
  • Brad Pitt is an awesome performer, it should be great
  • i think nathan fillion would be a better fit.
  • A FILM WOULD KICK ARSE! :D
  • FUCK YEAH!!!
  • It could be a good film, but I didn't find Red Dead's story as entertaining as the past games and the GTA games. Why are so many games getting films now? Most looking forward to the Gears of War.
  • I think Pitt would be perfect for this role. But I can't imagine RDR movie. Too much content in too little time unless they really know which themes to concentrate on...
  • What Josh Brolin he played a great role in No country for old men. Brad Pitt is not bad either, as long as he doesn't gay it up.
  • i think they should get josh brolin to do it
  • Oh look, another speculated video game movie that will never see the light of day, looks like Resident Evil movies can come out four times, but games with great stories can't get off the ground
  • #4 As much as i love Nathan Fillion, if he was to become a video game character, i think the Uncharted game and the character Nathan Drake would be a better fit. #9 Agreed. No Country and Brolin were both amazing, i'd certainly put him at the front of the audition queue for this one. Pitt is an amazing actor, but i just see Brolin as a perfect fit for Marston.
  • I would too say Josh Brolin but having said that I've just recently seen most of Jonah Hex..
  • "i think nathan fillion would be a better fit." No way man. He's gotta play Nathan Drake. Seems like the top two choices are Fillion and Jason Bateman, and Bateman's a terrible choice for the adventurer role. Fillion already did it excellently in Firefly. He was like Han Solo Jr. in that. Pitt as Marston doesn't fit. Pitt's the type of guy that isn't a snob and would take on the role. But Brolin is the best fit. Give it to him just so he can erase Jonah Hex from our memories.
  • @1 Your A Legend XD
  • Give the role to Chuck Norris...you already saw him dressed like a cowboy!
  • Pitt would be good for the role but I don't think he'd do another modern western style film again. He tends to go for different roles rather than repeating the same kind of character.
  • Timothy Olyphant would be a good choice, he was great in the HBO series Deadwood.
  • michael cera as jack marston, the younger years.
  • ^ god no michael cera needs to fucking burn alive already. same character every damn film
  • Hmm...I see better joseph gordon-levitt :D
  • gay
  • how about mark wahlberg
  • Sweet another shitty game-based movie to wipe my ass with.
  • Well I don't mind seeing a red dead redemption movie. I would like them to make another john marston in a prequel video game like take place between red dead revolver and red dead redemption.
  • @1 Nice. But mine's better. EI8HT
  • Give it to Guy Pearce. Then bring on John Hillcoat as the director, he already knows the story from putting together the movie cut from the game engine & directed Pearce in the excellent western The Proposition. If you haven't seen it & dig westerns check it out.
  • fucking dammit i am so tired of seeing brad pitt in every damn action movie here in the US. he is a good actor but there are a lot of good actors out there, come on!
  • vigo mortensen (aragon out of lord of the rings) would be cooler
  • how about no red dead redemption movie. if people need to get their western fix then how about putting The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly or Unforgiven in the player
  • @23 thank you for being one of the only to speak the truth! GAY LAME FAIL so on & so on!
  • Few I ment DO'H
  • It'd be a sad day in hell if this game got one before Halo..then again I'd go see it just because I love this game, but after all the live action stuff that Microsoft pulls out for the Halo games since Halo 3. Why hasn't there been a movie yet ?
  • @20 Haha exactly what I was thinking. How about Danny Mcbride? No, I'm not serious. These movies take themselves too seriously and turn out awful.
  • too bad i know how it will end
  • i am jacks colon
  • "...a few modern touches..." A Red Dead movie sounds like a great idea if done right, but I just saw a western that took a "few modern touches" and it was the piece of crap Jonah Hex. I'm all for a Red Dead movie, I think the game is Game of the Year. It has a great story, great characters. But please do it right.
  • @34 The Halo movie has been postponed till 2012 (initial release: 2009). Bungie stated that they wanted to focus on ODST and Reach. Plus the movie is quite a high risk venture. A lot of money and high expectations are just a two of the hurdles to take. If the movie ever will be made is still in the stars, since there have been some issues about the financing of the movie. Wouldn't be the first high profile project the movie industry cancelled. It's all about benjamins and not the fans, unfortunately :-(
  • Billy Bob Thornton /end discussion
  • @40 i second this mans notion i could totally fucking see that shit. he's a bit old now though that's the only problem.
  • cool
  • @30 has the best idea yet..
  • Yet to see a movie based on a game that didn't suck nuts. Don't expect that to change soon. Will never stand up to old western films either.
  • I see Vigo Mortensen better than Brad Pitt.
  • Huh? Red Dead was an homage to western films.. They are making a film based on a video game that's based on a film(s)?? If they were going by accuracy to teh game instead of star power then I'll have to agree with above Vigo Mortensen would definitely be a great fit. That said, Brad Pitt never fails.. Though it's doubtful he will end up in the film.
  • MATT DAMON!!!!!!!
  • Nice to see some Vigo fans in here. Definately would play the lone warrior role to perfection
  • of all the great male actors in this world, why the FUCK would they cast shitstain cuntface bitchfuck Brad Pitt????!!!!
  • @49 - Wow. Angry. Eh, Brad Pitt could do it, But I do see Vigo being great as well.
  • @49, easy there ! Some genuinely good casting ideas thrown out there so far. Can't say as I would prefer one over the other, but some good choices. The biggest fear that I have is that the film might be shit no matter who is in the main role.
  • would love the film to see the light since we also have a gears of war coming. but brad pitfall? I would put someone who lookd abit more like the character in, mabye Triple H from wwe. but if this is set before redemption then brad could put it off.
  • i think Leonardo DiCaprio will suit also...
  • Wow, a lot of guys think he wouldn't be good? Assissination of Jesse James was a good movie and he played the part so well.
  • Danny DeVito would be more suitable...
  • Supprised Shia Labeouf hasn't been offered the job. Thank f*&k he is no longer doing Y The Last Man!
  • Personally I'd love to see it go to Mischa Collins or Tom Hardy as both are great actors imo, bit less hollywood then too, although Hardy is gaining quickly after Bronson/Inception
  • I think Christian Bale would fit him well with a scar in his face .... he also was a good actor in the westerm movie 3:10 to yuma
  • I heard Brad Pitts been dropped. They are now considering Jackie Chan
  • Cowboy club
  • matt damon
  • I think that Will Smith would be good, sure he's black, but he's the best action actor out there!
  • Why not bruce Willis...lol jk.
  • Meh, a movie isn't a great idea in the first place......casting Brad Pitt would be an even worse move.
  • If they are going to make a movie out of Red Dead Redemption than they need to make it exactly like the game. Why does it have to be live action? Why not just make it computer animated and hire back all the old voice actors? Even better they should not make it at all. If they do they need to give to someone who will actually follow the game and not come up with their own stuff.
  • No fuck bred pitt his VOICE would not cut it i loved Jhon Marston voice that the most memorable thing about him. I would prefer the guy that voiced Jhon Marston without his voice is an instant FAIL.
  • Brad*
  • Um, Red Dead Movie = Pretty much every western ever made? I love Red Dead the game because its the best Western game in history. A Red Dead movie however, has little chance of being the best Western movie ever.
  • Its a shame that a Red Dead movie comes before a Halo one. But to all you Halo fanboys, if there ever going to be a Halo movie, it should have been between Halo 2-3. Otherwise if it comes out in 2012, its a bit late for its time. But if they managed something similar to their live actions, it would be fucking amazing!
  • TOM CRUISE!!!! Coz he hasn't fucked up enough movies yet!
  • no no no...how can you give a role like that to some big shot hollywood faggot. Brad pitt is a serious douche...he was only ever good in 12 monkeys and that was years ago
  • are you people crazy? this film could be a perfect first acting role for Justin Bieber. It's a carreer oppurtunity for him. Nah just kiddin, i say the guy from No country for old men as well. he even looked like marston a bit.
  • @comment#71: I thought Brad Pitt was pretty good in Inglorious Basterds.
  • @65 Doesn't that just make it a really long cutscene from the game?:P But OT I think Brad Pitt COULD do it, but I would rather see someone that's already a bit more roughed up for general attitude as well. Guy from LOTR would be good I think especially with the make up/CGI they have now to add effects to him. Could be a good movie but I'm not sure it will be... Needless to say if it ever comes out I'll wait for it on DVD
  • Clint Eastwood as Landon Ricketts ;)
  • I could possibly see Viggo Mortensen in the part, but my choice would be Timothy Olyphant, he's already got the quickdraw down to a T having done the amazing Justified, just make him look a bit more rugged with stubble and long greasy hair and he would be perfect for the part. Plus he's done a movie representation of a game before, so he knows what it involves. Timothy Olyphant all the way!!! You heard it from me first.
  • If done like the short film that was on the marketplace this movie could break the barrier that is Movies of games.
  • I'd like to see a movie, provided it stays true to the story and don't screw anything else up. Please don't let them cast Shia LaPuke as Jack.
  • looks good
  • LOL at #55 & #59
  • While I'm not exactly thrilled by the idea of a Red Dead movie, whats with all of the Brad Pitt hate? He seems like a stuck up celebrity douche but hes a good actor who makes good films. Jesse James, Seven, Snatch, 12 Monkeys, Spy Game, Fight Club, are just a few off the top of my head. I think he could do Marston pretty damn well. Of course that wouldnt matter if the get Uwe Boll to direct it.
  • brad pitt could totally pull this off, he's a great actor plain and simple. @21 Assuming you've played Red Dead Redemption, Jack Marston isn't an awkward teenager who gets the girl in the end, so I don't think Michael Cera is going to play the "same role" again. Also Brolin is a good choice.
  • @61 The Bourne Redemption lol...
  • Michael Cera and Shia Laboot both sucks...
  • Agree with #30. Vigo Mortensson would be a good choice. Brad Pitt is too gay and too much of a wuss. It doesnt really matter though, the film is bound to be shit. Films and videogames hardly ever mix well.
  • #4 I defineley agree with you there #12 Are you kidding, Nathan Fillion can touch anything and it turns to instant gold
  • Karl Urban = John Robert Duvall = Ross Daniel Day Lewis = Dutch Ron Perlman= Marshal Leigh Johnson to name a few
  • Not keen on Brad Pitt either. He just doesn't fit the John M. role to me. I'm not a hater, just not a big fan. Karl Urban's suggestion is one I'd go with. I'd prefer someone who is rugged to begin with and not needing a make over. I am happy that there will be a movie though. :)
  • The first rule of fight club is you do not talk about fight club
  • the best thing to do, is when hiring a voice actor.. model the game character on them, like Hitman yet they still didnt use the real hitman in the film -_-
  • mr.t, the end
  • Richard Riehle ^This Guy as West Dickins
  • I can almost see him in the role. I would love to see a red dead movie but they always change alot of things for the movie and red dead does not need many changes. I think it would work best as a trilogy but i know thats not going to happen.
  • Movies and videogames will never mix. Why? Because what makes a great story in a videogame NEVER makes a great story for a movie. Movies are not 8+ hours long, they do not require direct interaction, so natually they have to cut some stuff out, and seeing as movie producers, are, well, not videogame players, they cut out the important stuff and leave all the dramatic, inter-character bullshit that makes videogames lame. And any movie made of the lame parts of videogames will not only be a terrible representation of the game, but also a terrible movie. So it has been, so it will always be.
  • Assassination of Jesse James was an okay movie, its was really fucking long though. Vigo would definitely be a better choice to play Marston. Brad Pitt reminds me of the retarded deputy in Armadillo more then he does of Marston.
  • Red dead deserves this =D
  • red dead redemptions story should be made into a movie. its a great story. the only problem is that hollywood gets their own ideas and will want to add stuff to the movie that could ruin it. and i dont like brad pit as john marston either. i dont think he is that great of an actor. the only movies i liked him in were kalifornia, seven and interview with a vampire. his only really good acting was in kalifornia. most of the time his acting is boring and he gets by on his looks. vigo would be an ok choice for john and jake gyllenhall (i can never spell his name right) would be perfect for the small role of the grown-up jack. anyways...if they do it, i hope they dont screw it up.
  • Matthew Fox (Jack from Lost) for Mass Effect and Josh Holloway (Sawyer from lost) for Red Dead Redemption.
  • Sounds good
  • How about Russel Crowe?
  • And @ #75 Awesome idea! I'd definitely watch that movie!^^
  • Should be Viggo. Pitt is gay.
  • How come no-one has said anything about Adam Baldwin, (Jayne from firefly) who shoulda been at the very least cast as the VOICE of John Marston to begin with. And the Marshall? Did anyone else NOT think that he was modeled after Kris Kristoferson?
  • brad pitts a cool mofo i met him i was supposed to be actin in a movie wit him but my agency dident get the casting for it but if they do go for a RDR mvie ima definatley find the casting and try to get the Jack Marston part haha me and jack look similar
  • i think chuck norris is the only man who can do the role of john marston. and we could use justin bieber has his queer son.
  • While playing the game, John Marston reminded me most of Sam Rockwell and Billy Bob Thornton. Brad Pitt was great as Jesse James but I think he lacks the grit and wit to portray this character effectively.
  • Brad Pitt....maybe Billy Bob Thornton....definitely
