Square Enix Announce Gun Loco

Square Enix has announced a new IP exclusively for the Xbox 360 called Gun Loco, which pits crazed criminals against one another on a remote prison planet located in the farthest reaches of outer space. Forgotten by society, anarchy rules on Gun Loco's prison world, as the inmates must fight for survival and ultimately escape.

Gun Loco is a third-person, sprint-action shooter, which Square Enix is hoping will "redefine the run-and-gun shooter". Pursuing and being pursued by your fellow criminals, you'll be able to use the game's sprint-action mechanics to run, leap, crouch and vault to exploit the environments and get the jump on your opponents.

Each character will also have their own powerful arsenal of weaponry, unique kill move and mocking taunt. The cast of stylised characters themselves are based upon the design concepts of respected toy designer Kenny Wong, who has been instrumental in creating several lines of cult action figures and each of Gun Loco's characters has been crafted as an actual action figure before being scanned into the game.

Gun Loco will take its crazy comic style online with 12-player multiplayer support, offering a variety of game modes and arenas alongside its single-player component. Gun Loco is slated for release in 2011. Take a look at the first five screenshots in the gallery.

  • looks like it could be a very lol game
  • Sort of looks like Brink to me...
  • Looks... interesting. Could be fun
  • This looks pretty fuggin' cool xD
  • Is that a gun toting Rabbit??? Depending on whether it has some parkour abilities, I may be interested.
  • this is what we get for no ffxiv? well, looks cool i guess.....
  • agreed #2. looks like the took a lot of ideas from BRINK. sounds fun though
  • Just noticed, anime girl in the last picture! o_o" Sweet~ x]
  • i've always wanted to play a gun weilding rabbitt. looks interesting
  • Wow. The art design is UG. LY.
  • Sounds like a mix of Borderlands and Brink. But the fact that Square Enix is doing the game, I am interested. Could be fun.
  • LOL
  • RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Um.... i think ill wait until more is out on this game, lets say a demo
  • @ 2/7 this game looks nothing like BRINK.
  • @#15 agreed plus there are other games before Brink that touched on the whole parkour style. However this game looks interesting, if compared to anything I'd have to say No More Heros in HD, but not entirely like NMH. I hope for a video on some gameplay.
  • I wanna be the rabbit!!!!
  • I don't know about you guys, but I think Square Enix should stick to their rpgs...
  • @18 yes and no I like when they sometimes get it right when doing other types of games. But I can't deny they DO make lots of crappy non-RPGs. (They do make some bad RPGs too)
  • This doesn't look too bad, the action-figure animated characters is a nice twist to the graphics
  • its same square enix suck and can only make final fantasy
  • Kind of sounds like a cross between Team Fortress and Brink ( At least I think it's Brink, the fps coming out where you free run about?) Also, fucking LOL at the rabbit head.
  • @21, It's a shame your spelling and sentence structure sucks.
  • yeah i hope games dont try to follow this art concept, cause this is a joke. even for a sandbox shooter.. and the rabbit head just reminds me of the rabbit mask in Bioshock 2, so i'm not too impressed like everyone else..
  • This reminds me of Timesplitters more than Brink.
  • amen on the timesplitters shout.any danger of another one of them comin out.will wait for a lil more on this but intrigued
  • This game looks stupid in my opinion.
  • Lol, could be fun. :P
  • @26 yes, let see
  • Sounds similar to Brink.
  • HEY x360a are you gonna talk about whats happening with the PES 2011 beta?? (sorry to sound demanding)
  • Looks fun ill have to wait for more information though
  • The trailer is available on IGN.com, it reminds me alot of The Club.
  • Its club meets brink meets the crazyness of twisted metal i think...but the trailer wasn't all that.
  • Wait until some more footage until I decide could be a fun multiplayer game.
  • @27 You look stuiped in my opinion.
  • Yea, this seems a little ridiculous. I'd have to see some gameplay before i start judging.
  • LOL @36 On topic, this game seems to have potential based on the info they've released, but it'll take a lot to rival the likes of Brink.
  • Graphics look like they'd fit right in on the original XBox. Pass.
  • To #36, you would... lmao.
  • this reminds me of The Club except it's make in Japan
  • lol?
  • digging the art style :)
  • I'm getting a very big TF2 vibe from this game....
  • My interest waned as soon as I read "Square Enix."
  • @#36 STFU
  • wow idiotic people. "Looks a lot like Brink" DERP this games been in development before Brink was announced to public. How would Square Enix know about Brink if Brink was never announced. And anyway this game is a THIRD PERSON SHOOTER. NOT A FIRST PERSON SHOOTER. I really hate it when people compare games of different genres
  • too early for a decent call but could be good. hope there is some sort of customization though.
  • @16 - what other fps multiplayer games focused on parkour besides Brink? No sarcasm, I just couldn't really think of any.
  • @47 - are you sure this game has been in development longer than Brink? Are you sure you're not making up facts that fit your arguement? I only ask because this is the first I've heard of Gun Loco, and I didn't see any mention of when development started. Well, that and Brink has posted cinematics, gameplay footage, pics, and dev diaries; whereas Gun Poco has posted 5 pics. Thoughts?
  • This reminded me of time splitters for some reason, maybe cos of the rabbit with a gun
  • I'm getting sick of all these shooters.
  • looks good but stupid lol they should make a kingdom hearts on the x-box i used to love them games
  • Great, another game with ad's in the background. I'm looking forward to more screen shots of the game, hard to really judge as is.
  • This game looks like shit...square will have some ass developer work on it..just like they did nier...only reason its exclusive is because sony probably passed on it..if it isnt a final fantasy game and it is from square enix forget it!
  • I must be watching a different trailer. The game does not look good at all.
  • @47 you're idiotic, it doesn't matter which game was developed first. Brink uses parkour mixed with FPS gameplay and Gun Loco seems to be doing the same. I'm not saying Gun Loco is copying but you can see the similarities.
  • Wow I really like the visual style. Hope the game play can match it.
  • This reminds e of total overdose/chilli con carnage =P Looks good tho =)
  • Lets hope this isnt a can of sardines with their name slapped on it. Its been a downhill slide since they became Square Enix. That or its just me looking back on my old Squaresoft games with puppy dog eyes. OT: Which reminds me....Front Mission....What have they done?!
  • The horrific facial design is almost so bad its good. I could grow to love that 1st picture's left character with the "FIRIN MAH LAZOR" gesture. Also, you guys need to realize Square-Enix has at least two sub-companies within it now. Taito and Edios properties (which is why we're seeing Deus Ex, originally an Edios series).
  • I also wish I didn't have to mention how some of Squaresoft's best games WEREN'T RPGs. Bushido Blade, Einhander, Tobal 1 & 2, etc. But of course you wouldn't know that because most of you are like 17 years old and didn't play Final Fantasy until the PS2 arrived.
  • Here is a small anearly look in the Game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWz3IZHiHlM if it´s an XBLA it set the Acarde game bar higher .. my thougts
  • Looking at the very first screenshot, for some strange reason i remembered Total Overdose...
  • Great to see Kenny Wong's designs in a game. His 1:6 figure designs are truly awesome. Will need to see more game play videos before deciding on this however.
  • @62, I started out on old stuff like Tom Sawyer and Rad Racer :( Never got to play those titles as, surprise surprise, i was into games like Front Mission 3, Chrono Trigger and (Gasp) Final Fantasy. Shame i never really saw much of their non-rpg market. P.S. We're not all 17 :D Although mentioning Rad Racer makes me feel too old....
  • As a fan of Square's non-RPG endeavors I have to say this looks disappointing. I hate seeing last-gen looking shooters on XBLA, stick to retail releases that don't look piss ugly and keep the arcade looking clean and 2D please. Not like this game has much of a chance against the established shooters so I wish they would just avoid cashing in on the random crappy shooter craze in the first place.
  • @67 this is not an arcade game, where does it state its an arcade title?
  • Looking at how horrible the graphics look I simply have to assume that this is an arcade game. If it isn't then just wow...
