Dragon Age: Origins 'Leliana's Song' DLC Detailed
Written Friday, June 25, 2010 By Richard Walker

BioWare's senior writer, Lukas Kristjanson has been talking up Dragon Age: Origins' forthcoming Leliana's Song DLC in an interview with IGN, revealing a few salient details to expect when the new content releases in July.

Leliana's Song will be a prequel for the character, that has you experiencing the "chaos of Leliana's life as a bard and assassin". It's a standalone tale as told by Leliana herself, so naturally there will be a few exaggerations and embellishments to her story.

As a standalone chunk of narrative, Leliana's Song won't change the main Dragon Age story, although the bonus reward item that you earn will carry over into the core game. Leliana's Song will also be fully-voiced, which is a first for Dragon Age.

That reward item will be "a powerful new item for rogue characters" according to Kristjanson, and will appear in your Grey Warden's inventory. Kristjanson wouldn't reveal exactly what the item was though: "You'll have to wait and see. Sorry, that's a jerk move, I know", he said.

The DLC adventure will be tightly focused and fast-paced, starting Leliana and her party at level 10, enabling players to be flexible with abilities and equipment.

What's more, there'll also be achievements unique to Leliana's Song, although Kristjanson would like to "let players discover the details" for themselves when the new DLC hits the Xbox Live Marketplace on July 6th.

I swear, every time I get this game finished, there's always another piece of DLC around the corner.

I'm still working on Awakenings, but Dragon Age DLC always seems pretty good to me.

@4

Even more important, it's all been cheap. Coming from an EA game, that's mindblowing.

"a powerful new item for rogue characters"

My ROGUE is already pretty omnipotent as she is! She doesn't need any more help beating down Darkspawn ass... but, she won't complain too quickly when she gets it, though! ^_^

One day... they will hit the GS cap. Until then, awesome DLC is welcomed! Crap like the Darkspawn Chronicles is not.

How wonderful to no longer be beholden to the whim of every developer and their achievement baiting ways.

@10 That's because it was an "expansion" not just DLC.

It's an expansion. Besides, the retail disk version of it is $50 instead of $40!

Thankfully I have several unfinished characters, so I won't need to start a new one in order to carry this new item across. Hopefully won't be something she can only use at level 20 or something equally silly.

Why can't Bioware show this much love in terms of DLC to Mass Effect 2?

I am still working on getting everyone to level 20 on my game. Love DA. I think I need two of the DLC's though.

Which one cost $40? I must have missed that one altogether.

the one that cost $40 was dragon age origins awakenings. its an expansion pack so its a huge piece of content. you can get it via download or on retail disc. no word on pricing for the new dlc yet huh? sounds like it will be 400pts/$5 to me. at least i hope.

@16

Yeah beat me to it. I mean that was a full on expansion and not just a few side missions, made Oblivion's expansion look like a mini quest. I figure it was worth $40, plus with the disc you're able to resell it unlike the downloadable version.

DLC prices for this game versus quality of the DLC is unbelievably bad. Awakening was god awful, with less content than something better like Shivering Isles and costs more. What ever happened to quality DLC, like Fallout 3 and Oblivion?

i personally wont like this one, i dont use leliana and i dont care, if it has nothing to do with the main storyline then count me out and one achievement is not worth 5 bucks
