Earlier on today a Japenese website had what appeared to be the first images of Ninja Gaiden 2, the long awaited sequel to the original Xbox game. Whilst these images were later removed (not before they had been rehosted thankfully), a new twist has been added.

On the US Xbox.com site, a countdown has appeared with 10 hours left on the counter. While nothing is revealed about what it relates to, the picture and font is Japanese styled. Hopefully this means that it is Gaiden related. However, the only way to find out for definite is to watch at the end of the timer!

**Ammended**

While it first appeared that this countdown was for Ninja Gaiden 2, A news report on IGN is indicating that it is nothing to do with Ninja Gaiden. IGN are stating that it is a reference to Double Fine, the team behind Psychonauts who have recently trademarked the name "Brutal Legend." This links up nicely with rumours of a game of the same name starring Jack Black.

Well looks like the hype was right, Microsft officially announced Ninja Gaiden last night. The game will be chopping its way into stores in 2008.
