The internet imploded under the strain of awesome yesterday as gaming fans the world over watched 8 minutes of Mortal Kombat live-action goodness. At the time, we were none the wiser as to what it was or what it meant, but thanks to a series of tweets from Jeri Ryan who appeared in the clip, we now know.

Ryan stated that the project was a film pitch for the Warner Bros execs and that she was doing it as a favour for a friend of hers. "Okay, so... Mortal Kombat. It's not a game trailer," said Ryan. "Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film. I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB's reaction to it was. And I'm not sure how you can contact WB to push them to make it. But you guys are resourceful...! ;-)"

Well Jeri, considering the overwhelmingly positive response from pretty much every corner of the internet - well, the gaming segment anyway - Warner Bros might just have to sit up and pay attention.

Although if they need our help to see the potential and awesomeness of that clip, then I fear for the movie industry as a whole. Now do yourself a favour, if you've not seen it, watch it now, and if you have, watch it again!
