First "Halo 3" Downloadable Content Arrives as Heroic Map Pack Hits Xbox 360

First "Halo 3" Downloadable Content Arrives as Heroic Map Pack Hits Xbox 360
Written Tuesday, December 11, 2007 by Dan Webb

The international award-winning "Halo 3” gets even better as the "Halo 3” Heroic Map Pack launches today on Xbox 360’s Xbox LIVE Marketplace. After launching to incredible acclaim and fanaticism, more than five million "Halo 3” players worldwide can now enjoy a package of three all new multiplayer maps. The Heroic Map Pack is the first in a series of downloadable content from Bungie Studios.

Available for 800 Microsoft Points exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, each map offers a unique experience. Standoff’s symmetrical valley, with its entrenched bases and fields of boulders is ideal for mid-sized objective and Slayer game types, while Rat’s Nest’s vast, labyrinthine passages bring something new to the "Halo” multiplayer experience: an indoor vehicle paradise, strongly influenced by the Campaign mode, ideal for big team battles. Finally, Foundry is the ultimate Forge map – players can edit every single object in this voluminous industrial warehouse, place stairways, walls, bridges and tunnels to create an entirely new play space and build almost any kind of map they can think of.

As if the legions of "Halo 3" players needed more reasons to stay logged on to Xbox LIVE and fragging, Forge also allows players to edit and customize all three maps, keeping "Halo 3’s” multiplayer experience fresh, exciting and evolving. In addition, ongoing updates to "Halo 3’s” matchmaking playlists ensure that ranked and social gameplay remains dynamic and competitive.

The maps of the Heroic Pack are available in matchmaking today to those who have purchased the download. All three maps will become available as a free download via Xbox LIVE Marketplace in Spring 2008, just prior to the next wave of all new "Halo 3” multiplayer maps.

COD4 >>>>>>> Halo 3. New maps wont save mediocre multiplayer.

COD4 is a fantastic game, but so is Halo. You really can't compare realistic to sci-fi anyways. I think Halo is more fun, because it's just hilarious to play soccer with a 10 ton ball where players use gravity hammers.

But to COD's defense, the visuals are amazing and I enjoy it when I want to play something serious.

Map Pack- Downloaded and enjoyed Great job Bungie!

I'll be getting these soon. CoD4 is fun and all, but personally I think it gets old and boring too fast. It needs more multiplayer options, and i think halo is better with more people.

COD 4 is way better than H3 but these new maps may make multiplayer enjoyable again so i'll get them but when they are free.

Halo = a mere appetizer in the FPS world. Also that is pretty lame that you've gotta use some points to get a few measly maps.

"Also that is pretty lame that you've gotta use some points to get a few measly maps. "

Alas if only everything was free in the world...

But anyway, i downloaded the maps earlier and made a maze on Foundry, it's quite fun for infection.

i think they should be free, I mean we pay a monthly fee and for the game itself. isn't that enough

In my opinion i think Halo is just over hyped. Also for the die hard fans of Halo, i think paying for 3 new maps at 800 points (spending $12.50) is foolish. You already payed $60 for the game. Why do they have to milk people for even more cash on just 3 levels.

3 maps for 8oo points is a complete ripoff! especially since oe is a forge map which will be of limited usage to most f the imagination limited people who seem to play halo3 lol, 500 points would be a more reasonable price imo(considering there free in a few months anyway)

Although I do agree with everyone else about it being over priced. I am a hard core Halo Universe fan and I will get it sooner or later. Halo is just fun and I enjoy it. But 500points would be much more reasonable. And I really do want to play spartan soccer!

Agreed that COD4 is good, but the Halo Universe was a breakthrough for fps, it's a classic that lives on through innovation.

Halo is a joke compared to CoD, Bungie didnt do good at all campaign was only good to play once and the Hit Marks online suck, You hit someone first yet you die, Its BS, Halo was good for about 6 days.CoD Butt Rapes Halo without Lube.

I downloaded them and put back in forza a few minutes later. Yes Foundry is fun when you make a mancannon airshute with auto rrspawn fusion coils but that is besides the point. They are not that great just like the halo 2 newest maps.

Wednesday, December 12, 2007 @ 05:21:25 PM

Ok, Comparing Halo to CoD is not fair to either series. I personally have never gotten into the CoD series until CoD 4 and I have always liked the Halo series. One is Realistic and the other is Fantasy. Halo is more fast paced kill them before they kill you, get the weapons before they get them. CoD is more set up a defensive position and hold out, select the best weapon for the job. Comparing these two games is ridiculous. If you like the strategy part of FPS they get CoD. If you like fast pace

I'm waiting till these become free i never paid for the halo 2
maps why would i pay 800 points for three basic maps and come on anyone think that standoff is blood gulge redone cooler but still the same map and it would be nice if they did what Bioshock did and put in like 100 now and get the rest out later.

This is definately essential for halo 3, if you have the game and not the maps, fork out the money I say, better than missing out.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
