Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Deus Ex 3 Won't Have Multiplayer
Written Friday, March 12, 2010 By Richard Walker

Eidos Montreal has declared that Deus Ex 3 won't have any multiplayer modes in an effort to remain faithful to the first game.

Speaking about the decision to drop multiplayer for Deus Ex 3, Game Director, Jean-Francois Dugas told IGN: "Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a single-player game only. Being the first project out of the new Eidos Montreal studio, and staying true to the Deus Ex legacy, the development team wanted to focus purely on the single-player experience to ensure we delivered on that front."

Dugas also expressed the importance of the first game's influence and legacy: "Our initial goal was to identify the core values of Deus Ex and bring them back for a new generation of gamers. The core values were established by Warren Spector and company, so by building on top of it, I think his heritage is quite present.

"Of course, the first game was released several years ago; we needed to bring fresh ideas to the table but never without respecting the essence of what makes a Deus Ex game what it is. In the end, it's going to be a mix of old and new."

And one of those old components is a lack of multiplayer, sadly. Dugas finished by promising that there'll be more info on the upcoming game at this year's E3.

Thank GOD!!! Deus Ex: Invisible War had an awesome story, with more endings than i can remember, one of the best games on the original Xbox. Would be wrong to give this game a multiplayer when the story and singleplayer experience are so good that you just dont need it. Heres hoping this incarnation is even better than the last 2.

Praise the almighty a single player game actually remains faithful to it's roots, Instead of tacking on multiplayer to appeal to the masses.

Good news. Concentrate on a great single player story. I wish other games would take note.

Finally, a game that didn't have cheesy multiplayer tacked on for the sequel *cough* Bioshock *cough*. Can't wait for this game!

Good, doesn't need it, and putting it on would only waste time and space that could be used to make the single player even more awesome

i'm glad there isn't multiplayer, it means they can focus on making a great single player game instead of adding a short lived multiplayer.

Never played the first 2, but it's nice to see a Dev. not chucking MP onto a game, just for the 'sake' of it. Shame more Dev's. don't take note . . . !

Hmm. I've gone through the first game multiple times and loved it, the second... not so much.

I think the second one was bad because they made it for the xbox, and tried to cater to that audience. I would personally like to see this PC only, but if they learned from their mistakes there's nothing to complain about.

Also, aside from the game of the year edition of the original (which I own :D) did this series ever have multiplayer? And the GOTY stuff wasn't bad, but all the better to leave it out I guess.

Huzzah for a single player game without a tacked on shitty multiplayer!

Now if only Bioshock 2 would have done the same I would have 1k'd the game by now. Some games should NEVER have multiplayer.

@17 So you prefer a 4 hour game without multi?

As for Dues Ex I remember many many years ago playing one of the first 2 with 2 PC monitors back to back vs my dad, haha good times.

@30 - that's not what #17 said. Read his post again... he was referring to games where they've focused on chucking a pointless multiplayer mode in and neglected the single player, resulting in a mere four hour campaign. :)

Anyway, I loved the first game. Never played the second - wasn't it only on original Xbox? Was it even any good? Didn't think it was supposed to be. Anyway, this could be one to watch if it's anything like the first!

Multiplayer only suits certain games & I just have 2 words to say about this THANK YOU! I don't understand why developers see the constant need to add in multiplayer to a perfectly good single player game, all it does is ruin the experience not to mention retarded online achievements in a dead online game, That's just my opinion though.

Nice, I prefer a solid single-player game over a mediocre one with a half-arsed capture-the-flag mp tagged to it.

Anyone who's experience with Deus Ex is based solely on Invisible War: you played the wrong game. All the things that made the first legendary were DUMBED DOWN in the second.

And frankly, if he's doubting that Deus Ex will hold it's appeal in the next-gen, he obviously hasn't played it in a while. The "mandatory" upgrades for this gen of systems just sounds...off. There was nothing wrong with it in the first place.

YES! If the game is a story based game, stay away from multiplayer. There's no need!
