Mass Effect 2

BioWare Confirms Kasumi DLC, Coming Early April
Written Thursday, March 11, 2010 By Dan Webb

In what is one of the year's worst kept secrets... you know, after the Kasumi game art was found on the Mass Effect 2 PC disc - the voice clips of Kasumi  were also present, the mention of this mysterious assassin on the Citidel and the achievement appearing on debugs super early, BioWare today showed various members of the press at GDC the new Mass Effect 2 DLC, "Kasumi's Stolen Memory."

The DLC, according to Joystiq, will be the first bit of paid for DLC outside of the Cerberus Network and will offer around an hour and a half of gameplay, a "Locust" SMG and a flashbang grenade loyalty power to learn. Oh, and one achievement.

The short episode will revolve around Kasumi, a human thief who you can bump into on the Citadel and recruit into Shepard's squad. Her loyalty mission involves a secretive recovery operation that will see Shepard and co. have a run in with an influential art collector.

Kasumi's Stolen Memory is scheduled for an April 6th release for a price yet to be confirmed. Of course, before that we'll have the chance to sink our teeth into the free Hammerhead DLC missions which we should see before the end of the March. Can't. Wait!

I love Mass Effect 2, but paying for an hour of content never seems worthwhile especially after they've spent so much time playing up their Cerberus Network.

Oh, nice thanks Bioware for the birthday present =D!

Sucks that it won't be free but I am glad that there is more content coming out for the game. I will definitely get all the DLC for this game whether it costs money or not.

so the content was found already on the pc disc, so basicly we are paying just to unlock it? I hate the path dlc is taking just to squeeze every last bit of money from you.

@#6 - It wasn't finished. It was all placeholders. If they can't finish it in time, then it makes sense to release it as DLC. Plus, they've given plenty of free stuff out... The Hammerhead content, the Normandy crash site, the Zaeed stuff and a few fancy weapons. They are a business and if people want DLC, they need to pay them for their work. Simple as. I'd personally gladly pay for every bit of DLC they release for the franchise.

@6
Guess what? They're in the business of making money. If ppl are gonna pay for it (and they WILL) then why would you give it away? To keep around those few HARDCORE fans that boycott games because of DLC? OH NOES. I don't think they give a shit.

im guess it will be either 320mp or 400mp. its too bad its not free with the Cerberus network but with all the free stuff they've given us so far im happy to pay up to 400mp or this dlc.

@#6: I am someone who hates DLC and would've only paid for Fallout 3 DLC (but I got GoTY Edition) and GTA: Liberty City Episodes (I got Lost & the Damned on Xbox Live and then bought Liberty City Episodes Disc).

However, Mass Effect 2 is one of the only games I would actually buy all DLC for since it is such an amazing game IMO. Also if the character is useful then she could be used down the line as well.

I wish people would honestly stop complaining. Just purchase it or don't. They gave us plenty of free stuff already. They aren't like some companies where they nickle and dime you *cough* Capcom *cough*

Somehow I knew that there would be an extra character ever since I noticed that one more character could have fit near the right hand side edge of my TV. If I have to pay for her, so be it, I spent the money for Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station, so this won't bug me in the slightest.

this DLC will be awful, she's exactly like zaleed who just takes up space on my hardrive his pointless, and like zaleed you cant even talk to Kasumi. I hoped Zaleed was a one off but if this the variety of DLC were going to get then maybe bioware have failed again to create any DLC worthwhile. Saying all that though i will pick this up just for the achievement as i have all of them atm expect insanity.

She better be sexy.. also have dialogue options on the Normandy unlike Zaeed's ramblings which I still thought were cool.. I'm assuming she'll be in the Port Observation room opposite to Samara's room, the one place on the Normandy you can't enter for no reason :)

hope you can just play the dlc on the game you all ready finished don't want to have to start a new game for 1 dlc and then they release another a couple of months later that you have to start over again

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 02:30:52 AM

Well, Cerberus network outpaid itself with all the free DLCs so far.
We got what, 4 or 5 DLCs so far and one coming for free (Zaeed, Normandy crash, cerberus armor and eviscerator shotgun, arc weapon, and firewalker to come), for a usual price for ME DLC it would have been 2000 MSP, so we are 800 points over Cerberus network marketplace price, and with the free card in new game copies that goes to a 2000 neat of spared points, so I won't complain about this not being free.

@27: when you finish the game you can still roam the galaxy for "unfinished businesses", so you don't have to start a new game.

Anywho, on topic, I haven't even played Mass Effect let alone the second one. Should I go play the first one? (I have it, just a backload of games has kept me from it thus far, and I like focusing on one game if its an RPG like that)

The more Mass Effect 2 DLC they give me, the merrier. This should be less than 400 microsoft points. 160, 240 or 320 sounds about right since this is merely a loyalty mission and we all know those do not last 1 & half hours.

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 03:59:07 AM

I'm confused. Aren't people usually pissed off when they have to pay for an hour's worth of DLC? And aren't the same people usually annoyed whe a game only gets 1 extra achievement?

DLC continues to confuse me more than my girlfriend.

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 04:11:17 AM

Uhhh...

I kind of want a much bigger expansion (something similar to Dragon Age Awakening). If it turns out to be something similar to the mediocre Zaeed DLC, then I probably won't purchase it.

But I am getting the free Hammer Head DLC for sure.

@33: Depends on the DLC really. This DLC has yet to be released, so we don't know the price or even the size of it. What pisses me off are companies like Capcom, bringing out multiplayer for RE5 with a DLC-size of less than 1MB, meaning that would be on the disc already. Also ME2 is worth playing, unlike alot of other games.

I'm not a DLC hater, and i'll probably get this as I can't see it being more than 400ms, I love ME2, and i'm sure it will be great, but seriously, what is the point in DLC that lasts 1 - 2 hours? Haven't GTA, Fallout, Borderlands etc paved the way to show that making quality, lengthy DLC is the way to go? I always thought of DLC as being the same as the old PC Expansion packs, but so far I can only think of the 3 games above that have succeeded in pulling off releases to that quality (and they are all came / coming out as Expansion discs anyway!). Maybe it's just me, but i'd much rather them spend a little more time making a 10+ hour, nicely worked ME2 "add-on" rather than individual packs that just feel like 1 extra mission.

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:28:45 AM

@ 5: Who's forcing you to pay? No one. Don't buy it. Obviously you don't care about supporting Bioware, only an achievement.

Looking forward to this though.

Seeing as we've gotten several packs for free already, which EA is never fond of doing, I don't mind paying for this one. That and the game is fantastic, which also helps.

DLC extends the life of the game...for a single player RPGs, this is a must. The first Mass Effect suffered from this greatly...only receiving two really short DLC bundles.

Cerberus Network, in my opinion, will let us get some free DLC, mainly weapon and Armor upgrades, as well as, a few free mission packs.

But larger DLC, like a new crew members is worth the cost. Especially if the game is awesome.

DLC keeps you playing them sooooo I am all for it, love them releasing new armors and guns for free, sure they should have been in the game anyway, but hey now they are, so no more complaining about lack of guns and armors, they will be adding more to I hope, would love more individual armor pieces added to. can't wait for Kasumi she sounds pretty cool, more content is more content 30 min or 1 hour its all extra to the game, price does not matter to me anyway as long as I get it hehe.

I agree. As much as I love ME2, Kasumi's DLC looks like it'll offer about as much gameplay as Zaeed's. I just can't justify paying 1200 for that. Hopefully it's cheaper.
