Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 01:33:08 PM I just spent a decade of my life learning to play with a controller in my hands. I don't want to change. The 360 controller is the closest thing we have had to the perfect controller, and now we are just throwing that away. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 01:34:27 PM This is something I've been simply trying to say for ages. All of this "Project Natal" needs to go away. People come to "gaming" (and more specifically the xbox) because of the controllers, and having a good time. Microsoft is trying to attract more people interested in moving around and gesturing gameplay. Ultimately they'll loose fans as well. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 01:35:30 PM I agree with him. Although this industry is a business, there are certain things in the business world you just don't do. Such as killing off a fan base. If the traditional controller gets the boot, it'll be the end of video gaming for me. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 01:52:00 PM You guys need to understand that its all about money, not what people want. The reason xbox is doing this is because the Wii made a ton of money. People like the Wii because it was different and many older people bought it. Its the perfect casual gamer console. You can just pick up and play it. The problem is that soon this casual gaming "fad" will go away and all the "regular" gamers will be upset that the whole genre is fucked up. Look at the Wii. 90% of there games are geared at casual gamers. Anyone can agree that to us "regular" gamers that the Wii game selection is terrible. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 01:52:18 PM I dont want a wii that is why I bought a xbox360. What is so hard to understand about that? It seems that there is a huge market out there for non motion controll gaming, how about they just stick to that. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 01:52:43 PM I absolutely agree with everything Mr. Spector said. While the trend of implementing motion controls, or some similar form of such control, is fun to look at and try once or twice it does not fulfill the core element that avid video game players are looking for. I know for me personally, I want that controller in my hands and not some "magic wand" that has yet to be proven to work efficiently and effectively. If gaming as an industry ever makes the move to phase-out traditional gaming controllers completely, well then they have certainly lost me as a customer. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 01:54:11 PM I don't have a problem with motion controls as they are not the selling point of the game (almost every game that has come out on the Wii has motion controls as their selling point, except for Nintendo published games). |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 02:01:10 PM I for one will not buy a motion controlled system again. The wii was fun, something purchased for bowling and shooters. I play video games for a reason. Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 02:03:10 PM The man's insane if he thinks all video games will go the way of motion controlled forever. It's about money, always has been. Think of the most popular, best-selling games on the market, then try to picture them played by a Wiimote or by jumping around in front of your TV. Doesn't work too well. _Some_ games will be motion controlled, the rest will be business as usual. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 02:40:32 PM I have to agree with him. When we think of gaming, we think of sitting on our butts and having a good time. Now that isn't to say that an interactive game isn't fun, but having a future with all Motion controlled games will either ruin gaming, or everyone's social life. If I can exercise and have fun in the confines of my room, why would I want to leave? We see this trend with the internet. You can talk to people, buy stuff, and basically do anything on the internet, that why should you leave? In fact, some people just spend hours on Facebook or Myspace and never actually go out to meet the people they're talking too. And a little off topic, but I heard that the developers of Epic Mickey were deciding whether or not to release it for the PS3 and Xbox 360. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 02:42:57 PM I see a niche for motion controlled gaming, but I doubt very highly that "traditional" control methods (read mouse/keyboard and controllers such as the Xbox design and PlayStation design). Hell the PlayStation controller has lasted 15 bloody years! And the Xbox design, while different from the first generation, has nearly been unchanged for almost decade. Nintendo is the only platform that constantly feels the need to change their input device(s). |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 02:43:23 PM You have to like how people are either absolutely against it or all for it. There is no real problem with motion control. The probelm comes when you can only use motion control. Make games that use it, but don't force every genre conform to the controller-less world. Sports and such makes sense, RPGs do not. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 02:51:29 PM I'm not looking forward to Natal. All I see it as is trying to keep up with the competition. The Wii came out with the motion control gimmick then the PS3 controller got that weird motion thing in it's controller and now its the xbox's turn. It was the same thing with the avatars. Wii had them and ps3 had the "home" so the 360 got theirs. But I don't care if they come out with Natal. Just don't overreact and implement it into every game that comes out. I played Mario Galaxy on the Wii and loved it, but we all know what happened when they tried to make it work for every genre. |
|
Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 02:57:25 PM It's going to be the new niche. Motion control won't work with all genres, but there will be some that it will be fun/helpful in (sports, party games, etc). Overall, I'm not too worried/interested in the Natal product until I see it in action. I remember all the screams for the PS3 controller because it had the six-axis motion control, but you don't hear much of anything about that anymore (as far as being a deal breaker for which system to buy). |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 03:02:27 PM Motion Controller becoming the Standard WOULD ruin gaming as we know it. Tons of peripherals and connectivity issues are just the tip of the iceberg although, it'd be a HUGE tip. I seriously doubt standard controllers will be abandonded for motion control. It's proven to be just a gimmick as even the Wii still mainly uses the D-pad and Joystick for majority of it's games. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 03:19:59 PM I can see where this guys viewpoint is. If you look at the Video Game crash of 1983 it was because companies released a bunch of bad games and to many systems on the market. It all came crumbling down with the release of E.T. If Sony and Microsoft release these motion devices and focus mainly on those then it could cause it to happen all over again theoretically. The casual fad will die and the core gamer will be angry at the companies. They stop playing games and whats left nothing? Look at Nintendo sure they are making a fortune but they made a lot of core gamers angry during the later part of 2008 and all of 2009 almost. Many people sold their Wii's. But they still have the casual market. Either way though the PS Move trailers at GDC yesterday looked like Wii trailers and the sam |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 03:28:24 PM @ #38 LMAO @ virtual tissue. For some reason that struck me as incredibly funny. I agree with what Spector is saying to a certain degree, but it'll be a long time before traditional controllers are wiped out in favor of motion control. He speaks as if Project Natal/motion control will make gaming an either/or hobby instead of having both ways of controlling the game. I don't agree with that thought, as the game companies are too intelligent to make such a drastic shift. The goal of any entertainment-based industry is to bring in new people while bringing the old customers along for the ride. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 03:32:50 PM Wii is a nice piece for gaming collectors much like virual boy or 3D0. As far as actual gaming my Wii hasn't been turned on since New Super Mario Bros came out and it only took a night to beat that. Novelty games die very fast and Nintendo doesn't release that many strong titles to keep people interested very long. Most people who come into my store to buy Wii's only want the system and extra Wiimotes to play Wii Sports which is packaged with the system. 9 times out of 10 they come back for 360's or PS3's withen a month or 2. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 03:37:02 PM I'm not sure how people say this will hurt the Xbox 360 or make it lose fans. The only way that would happen is if they required it for all of the games we love. Other then that, all it will do is pull in more fans, in other words, Wii people. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 03:47:10 PM I think that this could hurt and help the 360. It could help the 360 like #45 says getting wii people to spend money on microsoft. I also think it could hurt gaming because certain publishers might require this in some of their games and it could take away from core developement in gaming. Also I agree with #46, the 360 has the best controller by far and the wii is a childs toy because it is only for children and old people who dont know how to play video games. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 03:54:54 PM This is how I felt about the Wii. Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 04:46:50 PM I like the controllers we have right now. I have a Wii and I never play it because it gets boring. On motion controlled games, there isn't really any longevity to a game, its doing the same thing over and over. I guess the same could be said about current gaming: go out and shoot people, but thats different. The most popular game type is shooters and I don't think those could ever really work with motion controllers. I play games to do stuff I can't do in real life (GTA IV, SR2, MW2, Batman: AA, Assassins Creed, etc.) Motion controllers would take that away. |

Controllers have been proven as the best way to play games. They tried to be innovative with the Wii, and it did work as they have made money off of it. However I do believe that it is just a trend and they cannot continue to milk it forever. Well they can but won't be as successful. |

Thursday, March 11, 2010 @ 10:11:28 PM The characters that I play in games do things that I can't. If their abilities and actions rely on my own, then what is the point. If all I am doing is a gesture to tell the character that I want them to fly, use the force, or even just grab someone then what is the point. If games are reduced to motion controlled gestures, give me an ergonomic controller! |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 12:28:02 AM I owned a Wii and several games (close to 10) and the only game I ever finished and enjoyed was Twilight Princess. And that wasn't for lack of good games, I had some great titles. Just the whole idea of motion control as a "gimmick" in a way doesn't feel right. Sure, I'm not totally against Natal and I think it's great what they're doing. But I think I would prefer it to have its own projects or its own side of things. I don't want the things I've grown up with and been die-hard about to suddenly switch to motion controlling. If there was a shooting game that I really love, or Fable 3 for instance, as its been hinted to have ties to Natal, I'm not going to have as much fun. Going from two Fables to a Fable that is tied in with motion control, no thanks. Certain traditions and " |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 12:33:43 AM im just waiting to make a judgement. in my opinion if we started with motion sensor 30 yrs. ago and was making the move to cont. ppl would b complaining about having to sit still. its change that ppl dont like but eventually ppl will get used to it and possibly even like it. |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 01:47:39 AM If I cannot use my controller's buttons then I'm gonna use my Xbox as a golf ball. That's all that I have to say on the topic. |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 02:01:56 AM as long as they leave the option to not use natal on retail games I'll be fine because when I play a game I like to sit and relax not jump all over the place |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 02:46:26 AM I would love to see control like they have in Minority Report and I can imagine a few games that would be fun to play with a beer or two, but otherwise I'm more than happy with the Controller. |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 04:24:20 AM To be quite honest, as long as games can be played with controller and natal then i can't see a problem. Its when microsoft start making natal exclusive games that they'll start losing fans. |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:22:58 AM just leave the motion sensoring stuff to nintendo. ms and sony need to realize that having this tech wont help them sell more systems then nintendo. just keep doing what you have been doing. i think all this stuff is a phase or fad or whatever you wanna call it. but if ms goes natal only on all their games then ill just go back to my ps2 and gamecube. |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:34:51 AM I have no problem with motion control being something optional. I don't have a problem with the Wii being a seperate dedicated gaming console. I've spent years in arcades with light guns so rail shooters are a win for me. But, the 360 does not need this. I like my controller and sitting on my ass. If I didn't I'd be a hardcore Wii gamer. Natal WILL alienate a LOT of people. There's no doubt about that, and I'm gonna be one of 'em > |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 06:55:36 AM I still can't see why everyone keeps thinking controllers will be obsolete and motion control will take over. There is no real reason to think controllers will be replaced. |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 10:53:22 AM I don't mind the wii but i hate how other consoles are trying to break into there market instead of just sticking with the customers they already have. |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 12:20:50 PM One of the reasons I won't be getting natal. If i wanted to dance around my living room like a moron I would've gotten a Wii. |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 01:56:22 PM What? Project Natal isn't just for games. It will end up letting you navigate your system with gestures. Slide through your movies with hands type of thing. Im mostly looking forward to powering it off with by voice. That was in the preview at least! |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 04:49:36 PM #12 he created the first video game that truly gave you freedom of choice, and without the generic consequence BS thrown in to balance out the different paths you can take. It was a game that was in shades of grey rather than the obvious black and white. Maybe you heard of it; Deus Ex? |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:02:53 PM And people seem to forget that just by the simple fact that a game will have Natal support means that it will fall short in some OTHER way or form, either from a standard controller layout that sucks because they 'designed it around being played on Natal' (Probably what Molyneux will say with Fable 3), or because skeletal recognition is done by the 360's processor now (to cut costs on Natal), which is from what I've read a 10-15% processing load dumped on the 360. And that's all beside the fact if they still don't manage to fix the delay. Natal lagged when they demo'ed it for Nintendo. That was in 2007. And it STILL has the delay. |

Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:31:29 PM @61: EXACTLY how I feel. Count me in on going back to PC gaming too if they kill the beloved controller. Oh and @54: "and all the guitar/music/lips games are just for kiddies under the age of 12." So is flaming music games because of your personal opinion (and probable lack of ability to play/enjoy them). |
