GDC: Rock Band 3 Getting Ready To Rock This Holiday Season
Written Tuesday, March 09, 2010 By Richard Walker

Are you ready to rock? Well, if you're not, you've got until the end of the year to get yourself sufficiently ready to rock once again as Harmonix has announced that Rock Band 3 will be out in time for the 'Holiday Season'.

Here's the latest Rock Band Facebook post fresh from GDC: "Harmonix is developing Rock Band 3 for worldwide release this holiday season! The game, which will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts, will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again, just as Harmonix did with the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band. Stay tuned for more details!"

And that's all we know for now, folks! Stay tuned for the usual drip feed of tracks and new features in due course.

How about you all speculate as to what tracks will feature in Rock Band 3 and which ones you'd like to see? Us? We really want some Led Zeppelin or failing that, how about Jedward?

SLAYER. Or anything heavy from the 80s period. Seriously, "Battery" and "Peace Sells" are not enough metal songs. Come on Harmonix!! Also, I'd like to see some Queens of the Stone Age too ;)

Unless it's something actually new like an improved controller that teaches real guitar rather than the same game with more/new songs, not interested. I've spent enough money on rock band and rock band 1.5

@ # 6

I totally agree! Unless they totally change the game play or add some really cool extra stuff don't fix whats not broken. I will say that there was a huge difference from RB1 to RB2. Much better and much improved. So if they can make RB3 much better then RB2 I may have to get it.

well, the rumors have said that there will be Natal support, and they are planning to incorporate more tools for aspiring guitarists to learn how to play real instruments.

They know there isn't any point in releasing a new platform unless there is some innovation to be made, Harmonix has said as much.

Once they keep the RB1 and DLC compatible as well as include RB2 songs I will be most pleased.

Not including all of that is 5 steps backwards no matter how many steps forward they think they're taking otherwise.

I would love to see some of Tom Morello's work.
From audioslave songs like 'cochise' and 'be yourself'

Maybe 'guerilla radio' (i know it's already available as dlc but still) and wake up etc from RATM.

The ghost of tom joad with tom morello (actually some BOSS definately wouldn't go amiss!)

Promenade from SSSC.(good to get some rockrap)

I only hope that the game is a true collection of rock Anthems! I won't stand for cheezy songs.

A bit of Twisted Sister would be sexual!!

#26! Completely true! I think that guitar hero games are better than rock band! they are harder. You don't HAVE to play the same songs over and over. No terrible covers on Guitar hero! (i know theres covers but they are well done)
Gameplay also feels smoother!

unfortunatley the DLC situation has one clear winner!

I also love RB so no attacks please:):):)

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 @ 04:17:33 PM

@26 like #41, GH releases an average of practically two or rarely three games a year. Rock band has released 1 a year I believe, and is generally a more replayable game because the DLC tends to be well done and wide-ranging, from country to Death Metal. Personally, I like the Rock band notes and drum charts better, but thats just opinion :)

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 @ 04:20:44 PM

Only way I'll get this is if the song list is good...otherwise Im good enough with the first two, and the weekly dlc that they put out. Wonder what incentives they'll give to buying the whole package (drums, guitar, mic) this time around, if any.

Led Zeppelin would be amazing to play as every band member!!!

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 @ 04:33:12 PM

I might buy this. I hardly play RB2 anymore but that might be because all my guitars suck;
RB guitar = terrible
Xplorer = tilt sensor doesn't work well
Les Paul = the neck and body don't connect properly

However if they make the strum bar click on the RB guitars than I will buy it. Oh and add Avatar support. I would like to use them something other than UNO! and Scene It?

#43. There were 2 full rockband titles last year, and a 4 or 5 (not really sure on the numbers) tracklist packs released on disk as an actual game as well.

Just saying, I don't think you can bash the hero franchise for releasing too many when the opposition is almost as bad.

I am so torn between the two franchises. Guitar Hero gameplay is so amazingly fun. Before you ask, yes I am one of those crazy good players. By myself, I absolutely adore playing GH. It has some significantly better on-disk songs. DLC, not so much. RB has awesome DLC. Fairly boring gameplay...I need help, cause I can't give RB (yeah, it's really that boring for me) all my love and having both is getting expensive. Got lots of RB DLC, lets play. Hmm?

To counter the recently announced Rock Band 3, Activision announces Guitar Hero World Tour 2, Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero 2, DJ Hero 2 and a band-centered release on Blink 182 to counter Green Day: Rock Band.

Laugh all ya want but I wouldn't put it back Activision

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 @ 06:26:22 PM

@#6 I initially thought the same time, but for that very reason it's nice to have a RB3. Why? More/new achievements.

Doubt that I'll actually buy this title either due to all the DLC already out. Renting, sadly, seems the best way to go on these types of games presently.
At least until they stop making "Track Packs" and similar games for a couple years.

Though I will say this...
I would rather RB3 come out this holiday season than witness the BS that Guitar Hero 5 did. Released GH5 then released DJ Hero & Band Hero... a month (two?) later. Not to mention GH5, imo, was the worse in the series and it was obviously a rushed & half-assed game just so they could spew more out asap.

I'm pretty confident RB3 will be of much HIGHER quality in comparison due to waiting.

I'm expecting at least half of it to be stuff already available as DLC. Let's not kid ourselves here, much as we'd like to. As for what I hope, variety: old rock, new rock, some death metal, some pop, some unfamiliar, some super popular, and maybe a couple out-there tracks to piss off the people that take these games too serious.

On topic: RB1 porting + RB2 porting + (possible) Lego RB porting + RBNetwork + 800 tracks from RB Music Store + RB3 = fucking awesome. Bring it, HMX. GH is pretty much dead now that Neversoft got the boot.

Led Zeppelin wont ever happen...they already said in an interview that the concept of people playing plastic instruments is stupid..and for people to actually learn to play the real guitar.. which is completely true lol personally though...i would like to see maybe "Rosetta Stoned" by Tool...or "Goliath" by The Mars Volta...maybe even "Cassandra Gemini"..but thats to long..although i would happily sit and play for 30 mins..looking forward to this :D games need more "heavy" songs..as most of the tracks on RB/RB2 are boring..

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 @ 08:25:09 PM

I burned out after 5 starring everything (aside from the DLC I didn't like or hadn't heard of) on every instrument on expert on Rock Band 1 + 2, GH world tour, GH3, and GH2... This is a pass for me, unless they really innovate, but I doubt they're going to do anything but make it easier.

DJ Hero is still a good time though. It's a good level of challenge, and since they next one has David Guetta helping out, it's gonna be more about the dance music.

PLEASE BUY DJ HERO!!! THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE INTERESTING MUSIC GAMES!

@90 I'll be really happy if it is, I think they may have more realistic game mechanics and a better controller, but the game itself doesn't seem as polished.

The other problem I have is that the companies involved seem to be more intent on selling actual DJ gear than selling a game...

I'm all for innovation in the music genre though, so I hope it does well.

Due to the fact that the rock band network was something that garnered a LOT of hype, has had great support from the community, and was generally well received, do you really believe they will discontinue it before the year is up? Doubtful. Furthermore, on the transfer of titles from previous games, the amount of songs tied up in licensing will be miniscule compared to the sheer volume that will cross over. Think about it. Over 200 in-game songs, and nearly 1000 for download! They won`t stop that gravy train anytime soon.
