Details on Codemasters' New Shooter Emerge, As Do New Screens
Written Tuesday, March 09, 2010 By Dan Webb

Stuart Black's original shooter, Black, on the Xbox and PS2, suffered from being at the wrong place at the wrong time. A decent shooter in its own right, released on an older generation platform when the good chunk of core gamers had moved across on the Xbox 360 or preparing for the jump to the PS3. Luckily though, the PS3 was out a good six months later, so that might have just saved it from total failure.

As recently reported, Stuart Black is heading back to our consoles in 2011, this time with Codemasters and with the new IP, Bodycount - obviously, Black is owned by EA.

The British based publisher unveiled the title officially today - with a couple of screens below. Although details are a little non-specific at the moment, we do know it's a first person shooter, it will apparently "deliver genre-defining gun play that comes alive in an orgy of bullets," it's being developed by Codemasters Guildford and will be out in Q1 2011.

Of course, the destructible cover will make a return - something that Black did so well - and the game will feature multiplayer, co-op game modes (not co-op campaign though) and is being built using the EGO engine.

The press release also boasts "powerful AI," although, didn't they say that about Operation Flashpoint?

Bodycount is out Q1 2011.

i heard they are calling this game an orgy of bullets. if Black was Gun Porn and now this is an orgy of bullets, what would the third one be?

Black was awesome, I hope they make this one even better. It could own online play if they do it right. Black had everything right, games nowadays can only manage to get a couple things right.

LOL, yeah I am yet to see any game that has what i would consider powerful AI, mostly its retard AI. Loved BLACK on the original Xbox, so i will certainly be keeping an eye on this one. Also love the title, and now that i hear it, it surprises me that no one has called a game Bodycount before, seems so obvious!

Looks like an updated Black, which is fine. But what's with those red streaks? That supposed to be blood or something?

Looks decent.
Hope it isn't all firing from the hip though.

Wanted to play Black, never got round to it though. Might pick up a cheap copy now.

I'm not sure what to think... I haven't really heard anything good about Operation Flashpoint: DR except it looks good.
I'll wait for this and check out the opinions of the forum goers.

@7 At a guess i'd say it's to represent you taking damage, ala Call Of Duty, BC2, every other game being made these days!

The screens look the exact opposite of BC 2 graphics. Detailed gun visuals, but lacking elsewhere.

This looks good for the most part, two things I don't like though (and this is coming from a BLACK master [I've beaten it around thirty times, on Black Ops, Hard, Easy, and Normal, I've gotten 100% about five times, so I know that game like the back of my hand]), and they are that random blood in the screens and the fact that it's called Bodycount. WTF is that. Call it BLACK 2 ffs. Otherwise, it looks okay. I really hope it live up to the original. If it doesn't, I'm going to go beat BLACK 1 again.

BLACK 1 and Painkiller (original PC version) are my two most favorite SP games. If they ruin this, I'll hate them forever.

@16, They can't call it black2 because, as the article stated, the Black name is owned by EA, and this is being made by Codemasters.

Since it's Codemasters developing this I won't get excited for it. I probably wouldn't even try it if it wasn't for Mr. Black working on it, so i'll rent it. After Operation Flashpoint:DR i'll only look forward to Codies racers.

Looks just like Black from 2006, but these visuals don't impress in any way. It's true that Codemasters can't call it Black 2, because of licensing.

Why won't any of these new games turn big? I mean, once Call of duty was also a pretty small, unknown game, but it turned much bigger with the time, and look now, probably the worlds most popular fps game - if not the most popular game overall. Just feeling curious about this, i mean, this game seems to have some great graphics, but still, i don't feel interested.
