Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

Next Assassin's Creed Sees Ezio Head to Rome
Written Tuesday, February 09, 2010 By Richard Walker
View author's profile

Ubisoft's third quarter financial conference call has provided the revelation that the next Assassin's Creed title will send ACII's protagonist off to Rome, taking the fight directly to the Templars.

That's not all though, as the call also exposed multiplayer plans for the game, with possible co-op assassination's touted, but no real details beyond that.

"We have a new Assassin's Creed that we expect will be a very high quality product that as well as an offline component will have a multiplayer component," stated Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot earlier today.

Ubisoft Montreal is aiming for release sometime before March 2011, but a pre-Christmas release could well be on the cards.

Iffy on this, but I'll still pick it up because Ubisoft is a solid company and the ACII multiplayer will be amazing

I wasn't expecting to see Ezio again. I'd rather have a different time period. Or, maybe multiple time periods telling different stories parallel to the main story of Desmond fighting the Templars...

OK so we aren't moving any further in Desmond's story then are we? Lame. It'll move about another five feet like last time but I guess it was never about him, it was about (his ancestor(s)) Ezio who we all fell in love with because the game developers finally decided to give the Assassin's Creed characters personality. The multi-player should be interesting but I doubt it'll work well, so please, I'm pissed off as is with free running the city sometimes, please don't add multi-player achievements. Boosting here I come (knowing Ubisoft).

This seems rushed. Took 2 years for an AC sequel and we might get this one within a year, with multiplayer? I don't have high hopes which is a shame, AC2 was so good. I've always wanted co-op. If this is just an expansion, kind of like ODST, then it will be fine, I hope.

On a selfish note, here's hoping for no new achievements because I 1k'd this as a rental and I'd hate to see that go out the window because i refuse to buy DLC for a rented game.

when they say multiplayer, do they mean coop, or online deathmatch type?

crackdown multiplayer, or modern warfare 2 multiplayer?

I'm a little cautious on this... only a year or so after the first one, and they are trying to incorporate it with multiplayer and coop. They must have hundreds of developers working on it around the clock if they want to pull off AC2-style quality with decent multi and coop. For their sake I hope it turns out well.

"with possible co-op assassination's touted"

Apostrophes never make things plural.

Anyway, I'm all for dual assassin assassinations. Picture this: my assassin crouching on the corner of some building while my partner is blending it a hundred yards away, both of us eying the target while coordinating our strike via the headset . . . that sounds awesome. As for Ezio in another game, eh, why not? Ubisoft occasionally does good work, so I'll reserve judgment until the game is in my Xbox.

actually pissed off with this one! i love ac 1 and 2 like i love no other games so im not just hating on the series. im upset because i think that a new country would nice (i would like to see france) and also i don't think ezio deserves another title, having a new story each time is fun and cool. with all that said i think its cool that the series is having another title so soon and im pumped for its release

I highly doubt that it is the next part of the trilogy. It will just be more of Ezio's life, and whoever else they bring into it. I'm sure that they have been working on this for sometime now so it will probably be good. The multiplayer part might be the issue but everyone that has played these games has wanted to try that out. Pre-Christmas would be a great time but if it lacks in quality because of that I will be bummed.

People are already tweaking out and judging it before it's even out. This isn't the third game of the trilogy and it was probably already in production while the second game was. Quit making assumptions and wait until the game is actually released.

Why is everybody complaining about multiplayer? If multiplayer turns you off then I suggest, and here comes a shocker, that you don't fucking play it.

Anyway, I'm excited for this game and I'll be laughing whenever it comes out and the story and multiplayer are awesome, in fact I bet over half of the people saying that they won't get it because it's rushed/has multiplayer will have that little AC icon in their gamertag whenever it comes out.

I guess as long as it is strictly co-op and not versus, then it's ok. Sounds cool though, would've been nice to have it in a different country but Rome is good.

At people that are complaining about the game being "rushed," keep in mind the graphics alone takes a lot of time. There isn't much Ubisoft could do to increase the graphics, so they already have the basic setting in the game done. All they have to do are make tweaks to the current areas and add a few new features. A lot of the time will probably be spent on integrating multiplayer, but I think this is a reasonable amount of time considering how much Ubisoft already has done.

Ubisoft, man. I've grown to despise them. Not just because of the PoP remake-remake that was TMNT, a big source of my hate for them, but first they beat us with AC2 greed and now this? Co-Op AC2.5 with more Ezio instead of trying to be creative? This can either work better than any of us can imagine right now or their greed will ruin AC's good name. Either release it as a mediocre PSP title like Altair Gaiden or don't bother.

I personally loved the character of Ezio and was hoping for Ubisoft to come out with another game involving him, so I'm happy about that. Seems like their gonna rush the game though and I'm not big on adding multiplayer. How is that gonna work? Are people gonna run around, hope no one notices and quietly slash their throats? Don't see that working for them, but the story should still be solid.

@34, yeah I realized that a little later on today. I just assumed it was DLC since it's apparently coming so soon and features Ezio again. In that case, I think it should be like a bargain priced half-size game, say around $35-$40 maybe?

To everyone who says this is going to be rushed you do realize that thy started working on the game AFTER it was FINISHED. Meaning they had started already working on it a month or two before it was actually released. And plus it's most likely to come out in November like the other two have.

I wish the game would move into a new time period but if they keep it the same I will be cool without. Really wish they would leave out the multiplayer (or atleast keep all the achievements in single).

Wasn't Assassin's Creed only going to be a trilogy? If you play as Ezio again I would think that would screw up what they had going for them at the end of ACII and extend the length of the series. I'm all for extending it because I love the series, but only if it makes sense and please leave multiplayer out. I don't see how any part of that could really be all that cool and functional in the world of Assassin's Creed.

@25, yeah, the damned overuse of apostrophes is getting shitful on the internet. I try to subvert this tendency with my kiddies, but it's like they just need to slap an apostrophe on plurals constantly.

Anyway, this game will hopefully not besmirch the quality of its predecessors. Based on my affection for those 2 games, though, I'll pre-order it I'm sure--probably along with every other wanker on Earth...

bit too soon isnt it? the co-op will be fine, but if its differnet multiplayer Then they'll just kill the series.

AC3, before christmas?, if it is I hope it gets delayed and pushed back for more "polish". There is absolutely no way whatsoever that ubisoft will make this game as good as or better than ac2 from now til like christmas, whats that about 10 months..... alright then good luck with that

As much as I like Ezio, I think they should stick to the much more interesting "new character and setting for each new game" kind of vibe. I was hoping they would wait a few years and just pump out a very high quality AC3 that maybe takes place in the modern/future timeline that Desmond lives in, or at least establish some kind of unique setting (a shift like the one from AC1 to the second).

it should be ezio...

Some games don't need multiplayer - there's an unhealthy obsession with it that litits the enjoyment of single player campaigns, which we all know can be awesome (CoD, AC2, Oblivion, Fallout).

I don't like the idea of using Ezio again.

The character and setting make it sound like a 2.5 in terms of content. There is so much they can do with their historical settings, and I really think that they nailed AC2 and should move on to a new place and time, with a new character.

No no no no no no no. I've played Ezio's story. There is DLC to expand on that, we don't want another game! There are so many directions Ubisoft could do with this franchise and they're going for the shameless cash in. SHAME ON YOU! Give us something fresh and new, that's concept that excited me so much when the first game appeared. You fucking corporate whores.

What a bunch of bitching bitches. Even with actual good news in the gaming world you still find a large amount of people who complain for the sake of complaining, it seems, whether it's multiplayer, release dates, etc. Anyway, like someone said, it was probably already in production before ACII was completed and is most likely not a proper sequel...and their aiming for a Q4 2010/Q2 2011 release? How many times do big IPs actually achieve their projected deadline and NOT get delayed? Not much, so I doubt this game will be rushed.

Great, destroy another quality game with multiplayer. Enough with adding multiplayer to games. Co-op assassinations, what fun is that? I have a bad feeling about this. Rush rush rush = fail fail fail

I hope by multiplayer, they are talking about co-op (like many of you have mentioned). I also understand and kind of agree that the true sequel should move Desmond's story forward and not focus on his ancestors as much. I was hoping to run around in the cities of the not-too-distant future, assassinating modern Templars.

However, I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to see much of Rome in AC2, so if this is an "ODST-type" offshoot that will give us true freedom to run around Rome with Ezio, then I'm all for it!

Guys stop freaking out! They took two years with AC2 because they had a lot to work on. Now they have a polished set of standards to go by thus making the process to making a good quality game easier. On top of that its Ubisoft. They recently announced that they were sticking to their big guns this year, if y'all read the article on here, and making sure all their hardcore games are top notch quality. They honestly can't afford to mess up because of the money lost publishing those dumb DS games. Give it a chance guys!

"We have a new Assassin's Creed that we expect will be a very high quality product that as well AS AN OFFLINE COMPONENT will have a multiplayer component,"

Good verbiage right there by Ubisoft, they knew that people were freaking about the multiplayer taking away from the established solid single player experience. I find this to be a good announcement, letting the fans know it will still have that solid experience and they are gonna experiment with the MP, good call Ubisoft

This is going to be a good release. I can see some complications with the online multiplayer, but i'm sure things will work itself out. Some people seem to think this is the 3rd AC, its not. That's why it's called AC2 Episodes.

Probly going to be a short single-player campaign with more things to do on multiplayer.

Ive never thought multiplayer would be good for AC. The singleplayer is the best ive ever played, but this game feels rushed so the singleplayer probably wont be as good. ill have to wait for a few people to buy before i do.
