My mind has just blown up, AMAZING! I STILL HAVE ALL DRIVER GAMES, I WAS ONLY PLAYING THE IPHONE VERSION TODAY!! YES YES YES, CAN'T WAIT!!!Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 04:03 PM
I just can't explain how happy in am about this :)))Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 04:03 PM
i loved the first 3 drivers. didn't care for the others. hopefully new one will be greatWednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 04:07 PM
Awesome news. Great gameWednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 04:08 PM
Driver 2 was epic. The others I never played and I don't really care. 3 and 4 just seemed like lackluster GTA's with better driving.Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 04:18 PM
Lackluster is a understatement, personally I didn't like 2, but 3 and 4 were just abysmal games.Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 04:42 PM
I still play the first Driver one from time to time (woo, PS1), but the series went downhill fast when it tried to mimic GTA.Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 05:02 PM
yipee DRIV3R was sweet for xboxWednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 05:06 PM
Bring on Ghost recon 4!! cant w8 its going back to the original style!!Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 05:13 PM
I only played Driver one and two. Didn't care for 2, so maybe they can make some improvements in the series. Goods news overall.Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 05:15 PM
The first Driver was cool with the 70s setting and soundtrack. It reminded me of Interstate '76 which was even better (gimme that remake).Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 05:18 PM
oh sweet, driver 1 and 2 were great, 3 was ok, but you could tell they were trying to be GTA at that point. I can't wait for this! :DWednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 05:24 PM
ghost recon 4 is still good news, missed that type of game, no other like it, there's no point in reviving driver, it died after parallel lines, so let it stay dead, like they should have done with wolfenstein.Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 05:42 PM
to be the best driver, they need to go back to the start, the first was perfect.Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 06:03 PM
Loved Driver 1, but Driver 2 was the first game disc I ever destroyed. Snatched from the PS1 disc tray and hurled across the room in a fit of rage. Man, I hated that game! Still, looking forward to seeing what happens with the new game.Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 06:39 PM
Got to admit driver 1 was the be(a)stWednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 07:05 PM
Cant help but think Ubisoft will just end up making it their version of GTA and slap "Driver" on the cover. Still, a great game. And considering what we expect in "drive around the city" type sandbox games, its kind of obvious on what will happen with the title.Wednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 09:37 PM
Yeah, I reckon this is just gonna be another run-of-the-mill sandbox gameWednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 10:15 PM
@#1 maybe 2014 :SWednesday, January 13, 2010 @ 11:29 PM
If they actually do a proper relaunch of Driver, I think it could be awesome. I absolutely loved the original driver on the PSX (although the final level was INSANE). Loved playing my friends in suvival mode. I also loved Driver 2, but not as much and thought the game was uneven. Let's hope Ubisoft gets it right.Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 02:35 AM
Can somebody clear up that there actually is a GR3? I have never seen one or heard of one. And I was never too fond of driver, but perhaps that was because i couldn't pass the 1st level in the car park in the first driver.Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 02:42 AM
meh not sureThursday, January 14, 2010 @ 03:34 AM
God I was like 9 or 10 when I last played a Driver game, Driv3r I think it was, I didn't have the slightest clue what to do on it so I ran round killing innocents, maybe I owe it another chance and may give this a go :LThursday, January 14, 2010 @ 03:53 AM
i played all the drivers apart from parallel lines loved them so definetly getting this :)Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 04:05 AM
Driver 1 was amazing, loved every minute of it (except the first misson), others weren't that great, but were the logical progressions. A driver for this age almost has to mimic GTA, i mean imagine a modern game where you can't get out of your car.Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 04:21 AM
YES! I lovveee Driver!Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 06:41 AM
The original Driver was awesome, so considering how old it is now this new one should be pretty good unless they cock it up badly.Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 07:24 AM
If this game still has its amazing replay editor function still intact then ill be getting it for sure, Driver 3's campaign kinda sucked but i spent hours on the replay editor making videos to go with my custom tracks on the original Xbox.Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 07:36 AM
i thought they were all great, at the time i had so much fun playing them even Parralell lines, but i can't wait to se what happens next!Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 07:53 AM
Wow..Ubisoft makes some amazing games, so to hear that they're picking up the slate & running the show with the series now is just awesome as all hell.Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 10:33 AM
what does the FY stand for? i dont see it mentioned anywhere in the articleThursday, January 14, 2010 @ 10:52 AM
Twas a pretty poor series in fairness, but the freeroam mode was pretty awesome and very enjoyableThursday, January 14, 2010 @ 11:57 AM
Driver 1 & 2, what games. Driv3r was OK, but the gameplay was shallow and it seems that they (Atari Reflections) spent all the development money on hiring big-name voice actors. Parallel Lines was an improvement but it felt a bit weak. Hopefully, this untitled Driver game will be better than the whole lot.Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 12:02 PM
Also, for GTA fans who are not knowledgeable about Driver: It's basically GTA but with more glamour and Hollywood style.Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 02:19 PM
Yeah new Driver, hopefully he still jumps like he did in driver 3, hilarious that was!!Thursday, January 21, 2010 @ 12:32 PM
Driver 5- GreaseMonkeyGB's game of the year 2011 :)
Wednesday, January 13, 2010
Ubisoft's latest press release detailing their performance targets for Q3 has revealed that a new Driver title will be revving its engine some time in 2010-2011.
The franchise has been subjected to a lukewarm reception pretty much across the board, with Parallel Lines, the last game for PS2 and Xbox, failing to garner much critical praise.
Ubisoft acquired the rights to Driver from Atari in August 2006, but little solid info has emerged since. Only an unfounded rumour surrounding the apparent trademarking of a title, Driver: The Recruit last year.
The press release mentions Driver as a part of Ubisoft's 2010-2011 line-up alongside Ghost Recon 4 and PoP: The Forgotten Sands.
We hope to see a fresh start for the stagnant franchise in the form of a total reboot. That sound? It's the rumour mill grinding into action.
