Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2 Will Have New Game+ Mode After All
Written Monday, January 04, 2010 By Richard Walker

Those lovely chaps at BioWare have decided to incorporate a 'New Game+' mode into Mass Effect 2, contrary to their original decision to bin the option due to complications in porting player decisions over to Mass Effect 3.

As those who enjoyed playing through the original Mass Effect more than once will know, you'll be able to play through the game again with all of your abilities and items from your first playthrough intact.

"Yes, originally we removed New Game Plus from Mass Effect 2 early in the development process," said community man Chris Priestly on the BioWare forum. "However, we decided later that it was a valuable addition to the game then looked at ways of implementing it back into the game."

As you'll all know, the Mass Effect saga has been planned out as one continuous sci-fi saga, which is why it's so important your character remains consistent and hence why the New Game+ mode was originally shelved.

BioWare has also promised better support for future DLC, as well as the option to jump back into the game after finishing the main narrative thread to tie up loose ends such as side missions and so forth.

In case you weren't already aware, Mass Effect 2 is out on January 29th 2010 and it can't come soon enough.

Can you keep your character (with gear) and still pick a new class/talents in this "New Game+"? My talents were kind of poorly distributed in my last ME1 playthrough, but I still want to continue with that character in ME2

@#6 - The New Game + as far as I can tell refers to Mass Effect 2 playthroughs and is entirely different to importing your save. So...

You can import the save, change your character's class, start from fresh building stats, complete ME2, then load up a new game using New Game + and you'll have everything you've earnt in the second game.

Having the 'New Game+' mode re-added to the game is awesome news. Only 22 more days to go, barring any delays. Can't wait to get my hands on my ME2 CE!

Gah! I'm still playing my second playthrough of the first one. I hate the feros mission. And i also need to collect the rest of the feathers on ACII, finish aleast one full playthrough of L4D2. All before I begin to play Mass Effect 2 as I won't be able to put it down.

Oh god this game gets better and better. I think my hype is really close to go beyond the border. But sad thing is, my character in me1 sucked balls, when we talk about abilities and gear. Is it possible to transfer him over, but with a fresh new start so that means, I get a chance to obtain better gear and abilities?

@6 & 9
What #9 says is mostly true, but I wanted to add to that.

From what I understand your character will start fresh whether you want him to or not. He/she will be Lv. 1 and their skills will be somewhat different. All the classes where altered and (in my opinion) improved, so it's not possible for your original character to keep his old stats.

The purpose of bringing your old save in is mainly to shape the sequel around your previous story related choices and to provide some form of non-game breaking bonus for leveled characters (whether this means starting with more money, exp, or equipment is beyond me).

I guess what I said applies to #37 as well. I doubt there's even an option to bring old equipment, so you won't have worry about that.

You may even be able to change your class to something else entirely (i.e., adept becomes soldier), but there are people who can anwser that one more clearly...Is Webb around?

Sorry for the potential triple-post, but I keep seeing valid questions I didn't notice before.

@16
You should be able to use the New Game+ feature regardless of whether or not your character is imported or made fresh.

There shouldn't be any disadvantages to using a previous save...unless you want to see what "default" story line Bioware has prepared for those who have no data to start from, which is cool too.
