Today's Holiday Deal Heads Back to the Zune Marketplace
Written Saturday, December 26, 2009 By Dan Webb

To tide you over as today's Holiday Deal, Microsoft headed back to the Zune Marketplace for its goodies... and yes, the content is still standard definition.

If you're in the US, you can now rent the SD version of Battle for Tera for today only and if you're in the UK, you can rent The Fugutive instead, again in SD. Other deals apply for different regions, what though, I don't know. Check out the dashboard for more details.

A 1993 movie in SD for the UK? Hmmmm... Happy holidays I suppose.

Hmmm, looks like that leaked list isn't 100% after all. Maybe M$ found out about it and decided to punish us all for snooping by sticking this lump of coal in our collective stocking... by which I mean straight up our asses. Here's to hoping we get a couple more deep game discounts before the promo's done!

Battle for Terra was HORRIBLE!! One of the worst CG movies I have ever seen. At least its a free rental, instead of "Buy the SD for $1"...but still, if its just a rental, why cant the HD version be free too? It's as if Bobby Kotick came up with today's deal himself, ha.

I missed both the free items. I hope though that Castle Crashers will really be 560 points on the 30th though.

I am not going to rent this movie though. I also think this is stupid of them to give discounted movies when the Americans who got Netflix can just stream them.

Saturday, December 26, 2009 @ 05:26:06 PM

Yeah I'm with #39 - so long as Castle Crashers is on the 30th I'll be happy.

Apparently Braid (rumoured to be up on the 29th) is only going to be available in regions with no Zune, so that'll be another Japanese deal presumably... good job I already have it, but sucks for anyone that doesn't!

Saturday, December 26, 2009 @ 06:58:42 PM

Much as I'd like to join this bitch session, I can't. I just don't care. Why is everyone complaining that they are not getting free stuff? Microsoft is a profit seeking entity, not apt to give things away for free. What they are doing with these deals is trying to raise the profile of the Zune system, show that it is easy to rent movies.

Microsoft is trying to display the full range of things that the 360 can do. And yet people still complain that they did not get exactly what they expected or wanted for no money. It's like complaining that something didn't go on sale for boxing day, which people still do.

Anyway, here is the trick: don't like it, DON'T BUY IT. Microsoft does things that will make it money. But the question remains: does the 360 even work on SD TVs?

lol @ #33 i saw this on live today already. this is a sad sad thing. its depressing....these crappy zune rental offers. i dont care if its sd or hd. they are still crap movies. i saw the saw movie on the zune marketplace for purchase in sd for 400pts...when i got my 1600 points and got home to purchase and download it....it was back to 800pts. but that is the kind of offer that they should give out insted of crappy movies to rent for a buck when you can watch them on tv on the weekend...if you would want to. the saw thing was either a weekly deal on zune or a mistake. a DAILY deal should be a great deal since its only for a day. seriously....WTF microsoft!?!

Microsoft should take a lesson from Steam on how to make deals.

How about PDZ for 1.99, or Viva Pinata for 4.99?

I think its time to go fully PC. I'm done with the stingy model MS never lets go of.

So just because we have Zune Marketplace we have to get an obviously sour deal?

So when the rumored Braid deal comes up, are we going to get another lousy rental?

Don't get me wrong, they don't HAVE to do anything, but the fact that other regions are getting WAY better deals then others looks bad.

I usually don't bitch about much, but this is horrible Microsoft. Zune is far to expensive in the first place. Especially when there are services like your own dashboard Netflix, the mail Netflix, Redbox, and others. Plus they have Blu-Ray available from Netflix now as well. Obviously Microsoft isn't into giving anything for free. I get that. There all for profit, but even though it's been said before they could give something free to the gamers that pay their fat asses. We gave them their holiday bonuses and all we get is a pair of avatar glasses and a theme. These deals probably potentially hurt the game developers more than they hurt Microsoft. So here's a big sarcastic "THANK YOU" to Microsoft for nothing.

this is...sad? like, #63 is on the dime, it's just sad to see they can't not make a penny after all is said and done. it's the holidays and they are just throwin' it right down our throats that the consumer does not matter, only profits. shouldn't be surprised by it anymore. someone needs to send M$ the ghosts of xmas past!!! lmao
