Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 10:37:20 AM Definitely some good news. Crossing my fingers for the Aussies as it is crippling to not be able to play some of the bigger games due to an outdated system. Good luck to you |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 10:37:31 AM A classic example of the state not treating their adults like adults. Hopefully this will get passed so our Aussie brothers can join in the fun too ^^ |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 10:39:43 AM I dunno whether Australia preach freedom to access whatever information their people like. But regulating adult gamers from accessing adult games is crazy, no idea what they are thinking. |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 10:42:21 AM @#9 - It's just an old law, that's all. There wasn't a problem 20 years ago, but games have become more and more realistic these days that the 18+ games are more prevalent. |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 10:42:41 AM As an American, I am all for this for Australia to create an 18+ rating. I hope the Australian gov't goes through with this. |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 10:54:37 AM Ha, about fucking time. Over the recent years the topic always gets brought up after a game gets refused classification. My guess is that the banning of AVP pushed it over the edge, and the government actually opened their eyes for a change. And Attorney General, Michael Atkinson. You can still go fuck yourself. Im awaiting your bullshit media statement to this public consultation. I would just love to see what you have to say, not that it matters anymore. |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 11:00:28 AM Didn't know you had a law background, Webb. But yeah, I agree. Pros to Australia having the rating: They aren't in the "stone age" of game ratings anymore. Cons: None whatsoever. Unfortunately, I also heard that there is a vote after or on that date, and it has to be a unanimous vote. I also heard that Michael Atkinson would be one of the voters, so unless he gets the stick out of his ass or is rendered unable to vote, you can be sure he's going to kill this thing. I just hope I heard wrong, either via my own misunderstanding of what I read or it being misunderstood by the person who wrote what I later read. I'd really like to see Australia not get screwed with their games anymore. |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 11:03:23 AM Nope, I heard right, it's right there at the bottom of the page linked in this article. "Due to the cooperative nature of the Scheme, any major changes to classification policy, such as the introduction of an R 18+ classification for computer games, must be unanimously agreed by Commonwealth, State and Territory Censorship Ministers." I have only one word for this: Fuck. |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 11:25:25 AM Yeah well it's pretty shitty in land down under but here in Europe as well. In Germany, they'll put you in jail for selling GTA IV to an under age. OK, at least they can play it, the Australians can't play GTA IV as far as I'm informed, right? |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 04:40:40 PM I've already made my submission. I think one piece of advice to people making submissions is this; make it professional (spell check, think out your arguments) and don't get angry. The review board and Attorneys General will not be interested or moved by rage, only by genuine interest, concern and facts. I'm hoping this happens so i can stop importing games and/or playing dumbed down versions. I also hope it happens for poor New Zealand, who has an R18+ rating. Unfortunately when a game gets dumbed down for our country, they get it too as they're in the same region! Fingers crossed. |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 04:55:07 PM There is another side? As far as I have learned the Australian government outlaws "mature" games. So the other side would be Fascist. Add to this their plans to Censor the internet and you really don't have a government with respecting. |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 09:50:54 PM #39 They should seek legal council. There's nothing in the law which states that games cannot be purchased and imported from outside the country. The games are illegal for sale within the country and for public display. The have no right to confiscate the media if purchased internationally. If enough people began suing the government, we'd get an 18+ rating quick smart. The wallet is the only place to successfully hurt any government. Afterall, money is the primary concern of all governments. |

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 11:35:52 PM HO-FKN-RAY. About time, really, it sucks being short-changed with games being cut to suit ages. Gaming has become such an adulthood community that it was only a matter of time until the old out date system was overthrown. |

Thursday, December 17, 2009 @ 05:48:38 AM ..... classification in Australia anyway, but unfortunately one dickhead in SA is able to dictate its arrival. If we want to move forward then people from SA will have to vote out Atkinson, or the Labor Government. That is the only way we will ever get it. |
