Games for Windows Live Games on Demand Has Arrived; Free PC Arcade Available Now

A new update to the Games for Windows Live client has arrived today which ushers in a few new features. Neither are entirely new concepts, one having been a main feature on the 360 since launch, but they are both welcome additions to the service for PC gamers.

First, the Games on Demand feature has launched with many full retail titles being offered as instant downloads. They are as follows:

Battlestations: Pacific ($34.99)
Dirt 2 ($39.99)
Fallout 3 ($49.99)
Fuel ($39.99)
Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights ($19.99)
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men ($19.99)
Red Faction: Guerrilla ($39.99)
Resident Evil 5 ($49.99)
Section 8 ($49.99)
Shadowrun ($19.99)
Street Fighter IV ($39.99)
Viva Pinata ($19.99)

Note: Shadowrun and Viva Pinata are currently %50 off until January 4th, so you can grab them during this period for only $9.99 each!

The second feature is something that will definitely interest some people out there. The new Games on Demand feature will also usher in a new market for Arcade style games. The first game on the service is Tinker, a puzzler from FUEL Games, something we found achievements for a while ago and were surpirsed to see with 15 achievements for an arcade game. Well, this appears to be why. They may not need to keep with the 12/200 rule like 360 arcades do. Best of all? Tinker is free! Once you download the GFWL client (see below), you will be able to sign in and download it directly. Here is the description for Tinker:

"Being a small robot isn’t always easy….So, imagine being a robot marooned in a surreal landscape of obscure mechanisms and brain-teasing puzzles. He’ll go where you tell him to go - but will your directions lead him home or leave him trapped?"

Two other games were scheduled to come out today as well, but there is no sign of them currently. These are World of Goo and Osmos, two other puzzle games. No pricing has been set for these games, but they won't be free like Tinker. Both games have been out on the PC for a while now, and through the Steam service they are priced at $20 and $10 respectively, which would set World of Goo at 1600 MSP and Osmos at 800 if everything is priced to match. This may not be the case, but we'll see when the games finally are released. I'll be sure to make another news post when that happens.

So what does everyone think? Will you get into PC gaming now? At least give Tinker a try. Can't beat free!

	@9 I don't think anyone had that go over their head. How many people have done that? alot it wasn't funny the 1st time or the 1000th time. I'm sorry if I sound mean but in almost EVERY comment section someone does that, it gets old. If I had a PC capable of playing those games I might get a couple, but my PC is ancient.

	Free games are always good. Looking at the achievements, it is hard to tell how difficult it will be to complete... No idea what half of them are talking about but I guess I'll dive in the deep end and give it a go. Would like to upgrade to a better computer eventually so I could take advantage of all these "Games For Windows Live." At the moment I have a Laptop bought in 2007 and an old desktop comp bought at least 8 years ago. Both would likely have trouble running Pong!

	I just get a blank screen when trying to play. Pretty sure I need a more powerful computer, which means there will be no "Tinker" for me in the near future. Disappointing, but that is life.

	Tinker is working fine for me and other than the controls being rather annoying is fun. Should also be a very easy 200 points since solutions are on Youtube for everything. Only thing that sucked was that I didn't realized it hadn't signed me into GFWL when I started it so I got three achievements offline before noticing and hate getting achievements offline.

	Oh and hopefully World of Goo & OSMOS are still coming today since I was looking forward to those. Maybe they delayed them until tomorrow and plan on doing something like XBLA with games such as those every Wednesday.

	I can play a couple levels of Tinker at a time but then it just locks up. Tried launching a couple times with the same outcome. Pretty sure THIS is why I don't really play games on my PC.

	wow. A really good thing imo. But sadly Tinker can't be downloaded yet in the German region (says "sorry, error something something blah". Someone who can second that? I hope, it's not, because I'm not living in Germany anymore, but my account is locked for Germany??? :( Ok, at least that's the reason (I know) that I can't buy any games from that new platform, otherwise I would have bought Pinata already...

	i had no problem downloading or installing Tinker. Its a great free game. But even for achievements i don't see myself buying games on both platforms. It also randomly threw a game i havent played in some time to the top of my games list. wierd but affects nothing.

	Already have tinker as i believe it was one of the "many" extras that came for vista ultimate users. Havent played it much though so will give it a try. As for most other games. You can get most most of these on disc in stores for less... No way i'm paying for downloadable games if i can get them on disc for same price or even cheaper.

	Games for Windows Live took quite a while to set up on XP (at least for me) but it's a surprisingly smooth service once you get it working... and Tinker is good fun as well.

	#41--I am Australian, and I was able to download both. I can launch Tinker and can (now) see my robot, but it is unplayable. I'm unable to move! Plan on saving some money to build my own gaming PC. Not just for "Games for Windows Live" but also to take advantage of the mods and free DLC for games such as TF2. Also, C&C4 is coming out and I'd prefer to play it on PC. RTS games are better on PC.

	They should release all 360 games on PC, there's more room in the hard drive. It would be good to download all your stuff into your PC so you can have room in the xbox hard drive.I hope they release something like that.

	like #25 said "I just get a blank screen when trying to play. Pretty sure I need a more powerful computer, which means there will be no "Tinker" for me in the near future. Disappointing, but that is life."

	this is going to be epic , ive been using windows live for a few months now but ill definitely be getting into it alot more now with games on demand like 360 and a free game with achievements who can beat that lol

	After trying several times, i just couldnt install the damn client i always get disappointed when i try to play something on my pc, this is why i keep my gaming on consoles.

	Nice to hear Games for Windows LIVE players will be getting a slice of the action :D I've just downloaded Tinker, and I've just had to set my laptop to Max Power settings...so I'mma kiss my battery life goodbye if I play for too long... That Viva Pinata is priced at 800MSP, so that's not too bad...I might give it a whirl later on...

	Same as #104 I keep trying to install the client but it just keeps giving me excuses as to why it can't install it. I guess I'll have to try it out on my roommate's laptop when she gets home.

	Most 360 games are for PC and the ones that aren't are either music games or games like halo which I don't want, why anyone will play any games besides rock band on an xbox if they have a good computer baffles me

	I couldn't get this to install at first on Windows Vista. Then I remembered that this Game had been installed via Windows Update as part of the Windows Ultimate Extras. So I had to remove the old version first, before I could install the newer version with Achievements. To do this go into Control Panel, then Programs and Features, then click on View installed updates. Now look for Microsoft Tinker and uninstall it. I had no problems installing the newer Tinker after this.

	thanx for letting me know about this! you guys rock! (but kissing)anyways...i decided to get this. i can now play it on my laptop and im going to see if i can play it on my 360 when i get home as well. a free game and free chievos are always good. sorry if my comments (#2 and #3) bothered anyone. i was in a goofy mood then. and just trying to be funny. :)

	anybody having to restart all the levels again every time you quit for any length of time. I downloaded it and got perfect on all the tutorial levels and played a few in Set 01. Then quit for a few hours, came back and it's reset my save. (And yes, I'm signed in on my account etc.)

	urm my achievements wont appear on my xbox live tag. it shows iv unlocked 3. but doesnt add to my score. also ame worked fine for me

	Tinker is really good. Anyone else have the problem of when they click the HOME button and cycle through the options etc, it still controlls the game. I've quit 4 times now because i'm checking the achievements, and it selects exit!

	@120 to be fair a xbox is just a gaming PC without a monitor For people having troble unlocking achievements if you have Windows Vista you have to uninstal the update containing Tinker and then download and instal it using GFWL Client. That way it allows you to gain achievements and have the LIVE home screen thingy in game.

	i was gonna say what #124 said. so i can concure with that. they showed up (eventually) on my gamertag. the chievos for the game have been glitchy for me tho. but i can take that to the games forum.

	wow the game acctualy isnt that bad and has finaly given me a reason to install the GfWL onto my new laptop but its a pity that the majority of new pc games still dont work with it though
