Dragon Age DLC Achievement Fix Incoming; New Return to Ostagar Info

On their community forums yesterday, BioWare's Jason Leong confirmed (a few posts from the bottom) that a patch (via title update) for the long-standing issues that developed from the day-one North American release of The Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep will be available alongside the release of Return to Ostagar this holiday season. No specific release date has been revealed for Return to Ostagar , though in a different community forum post from BioWare's LdyShayna, some new info has been revealed about it:

"Based on some of the feedback in this thread, we made the decision to revisit Return to Ostagar and make some small improvements, including the addition of a new Ostagar-specific achievement/trophy and a reduction in the price. This has required a patch/title update and some additional testing and certification. This has pushed our dates back and I can confirm that the PS3 version will not arrive until the New Year. For PC and X360, we're still working hard to get it out in time for Christmas but we're not out of the woods quite yet. We'll put out another press release once we're 100% confident of the dates."

Now, it appears this DLC will have an achievement which had previously not been the case (Rob Bartel's post is second), as well as lowering the cost from the previously announced 400 MSP, though the new price was not revealed. I am assuming it will be 320 though, a $1 drop.

And in case anyone in unclear exactly why the achievements were glitched out for some and not others: basically, the DLC was out in time for the game's North American release on Tuesday of that week. Microsoft did not update their servers (which show on xbox.com) with the new achievements until the game's European release on Friday even though the achievements could be earned in the game. Thus, many people who unlocked the achievements during that gap were not able to have the information correctly read by Microsoft's servers, nor could they re-earn the achievements in any way to "force" the servers to see that they did indeed have them.

So, if you have DLC achievements that won't register to your profile or are simply looking forward to the release of Return to Ostagar, keep your eyes peeled in the next few weeks.

  • So people have to pay to unlock achievements they've already earned? :/
  • @ #1- Have you ever had to pay for a patch before? I don't think they would start now.
  • I was hoping this would fix the problem where you can perma-lose Special Edition gear on a character >_> Damn you, Dwarven Nobles! Those were MY RINGS, NOT YOURS!
  • Wonder why the next DLC won't have any achievments. Seems sort of stupid imo actually. They could end up losing sales because of people that won't buy DLC unless it has achievements.
  • I wonder if they're going to fix that experience loop with Duncan? :p
  • Odd move on new DLC without achievements. Still might get it if it's fairly priced. Free Christmas gift to all maybe? Now that would be fun. (If a price has been announced, my bad, as I've been quite busy as of late.) Good news is that the patch is in the works and coming real soon as it's already the middle of Dec. Somehow I dont think this will stop the complaining though.
  • Good to hear because I won this game in a competition! :)
  • I have nothing against no achievements in this DLC. Sure, it would be nice, but I have enough support for BioWare that I'm sure whatever they put out will be worth the price :) /inner fanboy.
  • @#6: I don't think it will be free, MS has certain policies there. I seem to remember Valve trying to release some free Left4Dead DLC about a year back, they had to charge for it due to MS policy. (I could be wrong here, though)
  • Actually, if you go to the Dragon Age forums on the Dragon Age site, the Bioware guys have said this. • Here's the link to the forum http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/9/index/241198/72#444420
  • Thanks for the link to that thread Jase, updated the article. :)
  • WOW with Biowares crap on Mass Effects ONLY dlc and now this makes me wonder how they manage to get these games out, with all the "extensive" testing they do.MAkes me really think if I want to give these people my money for Mass Effect 2.
  • Can't really agree with having to pay for a patch to fix the achievements, but at least they are fixing them. Unlike a few companies who refuse to fix their glitched achievements. Codemasters w/Grid, & Atari w/Ghostbusters just to name a couple.
  • *thumbs up to Pants party* They even decided to make the DLC 4 dollars instead of 5. I can't really complain about it.
  • #1 and 14: nowhere in this article did it say you'd have to pay. The patch and Return to Ostagar are two separate things. The patch is a free title update.
  • i believe they are saying they will release the patch alongside, NOT WITH, the Return to Ostagar DLC.
  • Finally there going to fix the dlc.
  • Now we just need a fix to Magna Carta 2. This makes me wonder if it is a developer issue there more than a MS issue...
  • Looking very forward to more content, regardless of that fact that ill devour it in a night.
  • @2 Misinterpreted the "alongside" part. Thought they meant the fix was part of the DLC, not a separate patch.
  • @19 What's the issue? I'm working on MC2 right now. What should I be wary of?
  • #22: Nothing if you're in the US. The issue with MC2 is that the EU version has a separate achievement list and it was never updated to 1240 like the NA version was. So much like the original issue here in DA:O, they can unlock the achievements but they won't show up in their score because the info isn't on Microsoft's servers.
  • Price drop and achievement confirmation. Nice :-)
  • I liek this even more than mudkipz!
  • This is a great thing. Some of you need to read more carefully tho. They say the ARE giving a new achievement for the new DLC where it was previously without one. That ,plus the fact that the price got dropped made it a definite buy for me.I wasn't going to get it at first because there was no achievement(s) and I was still upset at them for not fixing the glitched DLC ones, but if this fixes everything,is cheaper AND has a new achievement,I'm getting it fo sho
  • This makes me a little happier.
  • @26 Them adding an achievement was only put into the article after around #10/#11
  • I LOVE this game and am pumped for this new DLC.
  • this is awesome because I can go ahead and finish off my last few achievements in the game without worry of no 100%!!!
  • @5 yes they are planning to fix the experiance loop. They have already released the patch for PC with a number of bug fixes as well. expect xbox360 and ps3 patches early next year.
  • Great, love BioWare, still playing Dragon Age, can't wait until Mass Effect 2!!!!!
  • Great to hear I'll finally be getting that extra 100gs added, and I'm a sucker for new armor/weapons content, woot!
  • I would love to see DLC that adds new party members into the fray now THAT would make me go nuts. . . but this is a move in the right direction. Who thinks DA will hit the 1750 mark?
  • Awesome news, hopefully its not delayed for us :)
  • @#13 umm....mass effect got TWO dlc's =P
  • good to know ill soon be able to 100% this game!
  • That's pretty awesome, even cheaper than I was expecting. Can't wait xxx
  • Nice to hear the DLC folks will soon be getting a fix. Wonder if they are ever going to address all the other issues.
  • #26-Read more carefully yes for some or in the case of the few early readers and posters, come back for the update on the price and announcement of the one achievement being added. Good fun. Cant wait.
  • I wasn't gonna buy it w/o achievements(s). Guess I will now!
  • Just to be clear they have dropped the price because the DLC is between 20 minutes to an hour long. People on the forums were pissed when they said that.
