Microsoft Spreads Christmas Cheer (December DotW, GoD & Avatar Christmas Gear)
Written Thursday, December 10, 2009 By Dan Webb
View author's profile

If there's one thing that says Christmas, it's a Santa hat. It's a choice piece of apparel for drunk college chicks, cold high-street charity workers, and of course the big man himself, Santy Clause. So what better than putting a Santa hat on your avatar? Or that horrible sweater that your aunt usually gives you? Nothing! Nothing is better. Fact!

Okay, I'm sure we can make it a little better, how about all the Deal of the Weeks for December, all the Games on Demand, some XBLA Wednesday details (not much though) and a photo of our Christmas present from Microsoft? Better? Exactly! Brace yourselves, information overload... of the festive variety!

Even your Avatar Gets a Tacky Holiday Sweater

From today, get your Avatar in the holiday spirit with specialty items including an ugly holiday sweater and even a free holiday gift for your Avatar to unwrap! And make sure they’re dressed to impress with signature tokidoki gear too, including an assortment of trademark tees and a pair of tokidoki themed rain boots. Wishes really do come true during the Holidays! Dress as a pretty Disney princess or classic villain when “Disney Classics” (Disney) releases on Avatar Marketplace December 24.

Yuck, that Avatar gear is disgusting. I really hope no one spends money on it.

And I'm glad to see the special on Shadow Complex, I've been waiting to download that and now it will be a discount! All the other news is meh.

Wishful thinking that MS would give us anything useful for free, even at this time of year. I'm shocked by the FO3: OA being for Japan only. There's countless people across the globe who haven't got it yet and surely they could maximise sales by making that offer to EVERYONE? Or is that just being too sensible? I'm not complaining as I got all 5 FO3 DLC's on release date. I don't mind paying full price for immediate access, but surely now it's time to start dropping prices?

Same goes for the GoD, £20 for a virtual copy of a game? I still can't believe people acutally buy them, if you've got a 'net connection to download them, then why not just buy them online? Even brand new copies of CrackDown & GoW are cheaper than £20 . . .

MS = head in the sand . . .

Everybody be sure to pick up The Maw for 400 points if you don't already have the game! It's awesome and Maw is actually a pretty adorable character for a monster that eats everything it can. :p

As for myself, I might consider Shadow Complex at that price, but it's not that enticing to be honest. They play up that it's from Epic, who makes Gears, but they play down that it's also from Chair, who made that completely awful Undertow game that MS gave us all for free a while back. Plus, the game is set up an awful lot like Metroid in terms of gameplay, and I'd rather give myself a swirly than play another Metroid game.

Also, where's the free present?! All I see is one for 240 points, which can clearly go **** itself. Even the Santa hat is 80 points... Lame Microsoft, very lame.

I've played the demos for both The Maw and Shadow Complex and enjoyed them. This is what will finally get me to purchase them both. I'm interested in Alien Breed Evolution as well, but it won't be a week one purchase.

As for the avatar clothes, I'm amazed at how big of a deal people are making of this. I'm amazed that anyone pays for avatar clothes, too, but I'll freely admit that I just don't get it.

Anyways does anyone else fell like Shadow Complex makers are just trying to earn that last little bit of money out of eveyone that dint buy it. I think that game will be cheaper in the far future but i guess if u want it now, its a great way for epic to make more money. x_X

@ Webb

Why did you say there was a "free" avatar gift? I don't see anything for free. Just a gift for 240 MS points($3 USD), and that is NOT free. Go screw yourself Microsoft.

Oh look, Shadow Complex for a reasonable price! Nothing against the game, but I never pay more than 10 Euros for a download.

As for the Avatars: Aw, Christmas spirit. Selling overpriced crap with a wintery theme to it.

Well it doesn't mention it, but I'm still hoping for Joy Ride as Microsoft's Christmas present to us. PLEASE MS! I've been waiting on Joy Ride for what feels like forever!

I'm sorry but I don't get how this is microsoft spreading cheer, if they were doing that they should think about giving some freebies. Asking me to pay for a "grannie-knitted" jumper for my avatar is just silly.

I'm actually still wondering about the SEGA Poll release.
If Toe Jam & Earl won, how come it hasn't been released yet?

Is SEGA still dragging it's butt in getting the rights to put it onto XBLA?

Can reccomend The Maw, enjoyable fun little gem with two "boosters" (achievement DLC for a XBLA game?) bringing the total up to 250 GS. Perfectly doable and an enjoyment rather than frustrating =)
