Free NFS: Shift DLC to Kick Off The Holidays

Free NFS: Shift DLC to Kick Off The Holidays
Written Saturday, November 21, 2009 by Dan Webb

We all love DLC right? The chance to extend your favourite games and all that jazz. There is one thing better than DLC though, and that’s free DLC, something that EA are planning for Need For Speed: Shift in the coming weeks.

Coming December 1st for a whopping 0 Microsoft points, Shift fans can pick up the Team Racing pack which includes a new team mode as well as 5 shiny legendary cars. The team mode will pit two teams of up to six racers against one another, whilst the 5 legendary cars will have you winning in style. Win, win situation really... and did we say, this is free!

The new cars in the Team Racing pack are as follows:

• 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 427
• 1967 Shelby GT-500
• 1969 Dodge Charger R/T
• 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T
• 1998 Toyota Supra Mark IV

You can find screens of the new cars in the gallery here, or take a look at the select few below. The Team Racing pack is out December 1st.

The Supra is the gem in this car pack. I like all the cars but I favor AWD/FWD on racing games.

I'll definitely be getting this for the supra addition. I was really disappointed when shift first came out that i couldn't drive my car in game.
I never risk the strain of track days in real life, so to take my supra round a virtual track is racing at its best for me :)
Thanks EA!

The only reason its free, is because there aren't achievements with it..

This is a flop

Free DLC = win
Free DLC + Bad Game = Fail

#13 its microsoft policy to make developers charge for DLC with added achievements so its free, but there won't be achievements

this game was really solid as far as recent NFS titles, they are just doing their best to combat Forza 3 (too little too late)

Wowwweeeeee, and you know what would be even more amazing? if the cars could be controlled too! and not bounce around the track once they hit 200kmph, maybe.......just maybe we can turn a corner in them too.......imagine that!!!!

I never went to Bible school or anything like that, but I'm fairly certain that EA giving away something for free was a sign of the apocalypse.

#22 HAHAHAHAHA!

Well ... I don't own Shift, but this sounds nice. Maybe they will, just maybe, work on their earlier games and fix those horrible bugs and glitches.

It's funny. I have Shift for my PS3. I figured I was getting Forza 3, so I get this and have a racing game to hold me off on PS3 'til GT5. I always knew EA would release DLC. But for free? That's almost as crazy as free health care!!!

They where prob gonna sell this content but cos game came out around same time as Forza 3 and got out sold they think free content will tempt people to buy it.

It will prob be one of them 100k add-ons which means content is already on disc but just needs unlocking.

They do that with most games to get more money from people but cos of poo sales its free for a change.

You do realize the Supra is a RWD car right? So if you favor AWD/FWD why are you excited for it? Typo?

Anyways, free DLC is always good, especially when it has my Supra in it... and getting a 67 vette doesn't hurt either. =)

#22 They gave out quite a bit for free in 2008. There were achievements with the free Army of Two DLC as well...it seems MS's "policy" only came up after these things were coming out.

The AFL Legacy DLC for Madden was also intended to be free, but because of the achievements they drew up for it they had to charge the 560 (which I think is the new "low" standard for DLC considering I haven't seen anything for 400 points in quite some time).

"it seems MS's "policy" only came up after these things were coming out. "

What policy, that Microsoft charge for stuff? It was Gears of War that started that mess. Epic, as they always had done in the past, wanted to give their stuff out free. I think they did for one map pack and Microsoft refused to allow it again because it was millions worth of profit up in smoke because Epic had the nerve to be nice to the consumers that loyally support them.

@26... We have free health care in australia.... its not crazy... Free HealthCare=instant win.
And I am fairly certain, as 22 said, this is a sign of the apocolypse... next comes the death of all the newborn IPs....

Considering it's only a Car Pack, no and since it's free no achievements. That's why the first DLC for L4D1 didn't have achievements.

The first dlc for L4D didn't have achievements because it was free.
DLC can have achievements and be free if it's sponsored by someone. Like Army of Two's free expansion that was sponsored by pontiac. As long as MS gets paid I really don't think they give 2 hoots.

And #29, I'm aware of that. I just hope this version has the AWD package. That's why I love the beast skyline!

Why do people moan about free DLC?? For god's sake, it's free, which means they are not charging, be happy that EA are giving still thinking of the consumer..... And the game is probably one of the better arcade racers for a while.... it's not forza 3 which means it isn't a racing sim, two totally different racing styles. Rant over!

Thanks for the free DLC EA

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
