EA Sports MMA to Feature Strikeforce as a Premier League

EA Sports MMA to Feature Strikeforce as a Premier League
Written Friday, November 06, 2009 by Dan Webb

EA Sport's MMA title is going to have a tough time if it is going to replicate the success of the UFC title that THQ dropped this year. They aren't giving up without a fight though and to add to the few stars they currently have lined up, EA Sports today announced that Strikeforce, a world-class mixed martial arts fight promotion, will feature as a premier league in the upcoming title.

The deal with Strikeforce not only brings with it the commentary team of Frank Shamrock and Mauro Ranallo, ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr and MMA ref, "Big John" McCarthy, but it also brings the Strikeforce cage with it.

In addition to the Strikeforce license agreement, EA Sports today also announced that Brett Rogers and Jake Shields are to join the EA Sports MMA roster.

Look out for the EA Sports MMA coverage next week including interviews and our first impressions of the game.

zomg this game just became a must-buy just because Jake Shields is in it, one of my top five favourite fighters right there. He's gonna have a fucking war with Jason Miller for the MW title tomorrow....EA isn't doing to bad so far. Mauro Ranallo and all his awesome one liners

IMO this is like EA doing Madden with arena football league rosters, yes there are some great fighters in strikforce but not like the big names in the UFC. EA has to be kicking themselves for telling the UFC "thanks, but no thanks". I hope it has good gameplay though, it will be interesting to see how they do the controls.

I'm getting this game for sure, UFC was great but lacked the greatest fighter in MMA, Fedor Emilianenko.

Honestly, for the REAL mma fan not just ufc fans, this game has an incredible roster. Wikipedia it and just take a look at some of the names. It's a who's who of Dream, Pride, K-1, Sengoku and all the other Japanese MMA groups. This game should be awesome as long as the mechanics don't suck.

@14 Honestly? I thought it the UFC game was great to start with, but when you really get into it, it's very repetitive. Being a Hardcore MMA fan, i found it annoying that every type of move only had one animation, go for a armbar and it looks the same every single time, same for a shoot, same for a kimura, etc etc, and don't even get me started on the fact that so many submissions were left out!

There is no way on earth this will sell more than the UFC game, i know people that have got into UFC because of that game, i can't see it happening here, but as for it being a better game i could quiet easily imagine it being better, Undisputed can certainly be improved upon, and after all this is EA, as much as some people hate them, they make the best sports games on the planet, fact.

I think it will be more interesting to see if THQ change the game formula much in the next UFC now they have some competition.

EA dropped the ball on this one. UFC was great. I've been buying Knockout Kings(Fight Night) since it came out on the PS1. Very disappointed in FN4 (extra fighters that should be in the game for dlc? cheap bastards.) Though if EA did UFC it would've probably looked more polished. They should quit fn around with making a 2nd rate MMA game and focus on getting the MLB lic. from 2K sports.

Graphics in the trailer look very cartoony. During Strikeforce Saturday night, looked horrible, even though Fedor won.

UFC was oaky. It should have looked a lot better for just having 3 characters in the ring at a time. Maybe EA will use the Fight Night engine for the final product.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
