Dragon Age: Origins Updated to 1100

Dragon Age: Origins Updated to 1100
Written Friday, November 06, 2009 by Alan Pettit

Over the past few days there has a been quite a bit of confusion and complaints out there because the DLC achievements for DAO have been broken, not properly adding points to anyone's score. This is caused by Microsoft not updating their official lists through xbox.com, and this is surely not the first time it has happened. Hell, MagnaCarta 2's EU version is still broken going on three weeks now! Anyway, all that can be put aside now as the game has officially been updated on xbox.com with four new achievements, and this should fix any issues of unlocking and getting points from them.

If you have already unlocked some of these and your score does not automatically update the next time you sign into Xbox Live, I would suggest first recovering your Gamertag on your Xbox and seeing if that helps. If not, try starting a new character and re-earning the achievements.

The four achievements are split between two launch-day add-ons, one normal and one secret totalling 50 points for each. The first is Warden's Keep which can be purchased for 560 MSP. The second is for The Stone Prisoner which should have been free for anyone who purchased a new copy of the game (a card with a download code would be inside the case), or it can be purchased for 1200 MSP off the marketplace for those who somehow already purchased the game off the second-hand market.

Note: Adding secret DLC achievements seems to break the My360Achievements feature for a game if you were using the list before the addition. If the achievements won't save for you after this update, simply delete the checklist by hitting the Red X from the "My Checklists" page and then re-enable and re-add all your achievements and it should be fine. We apologize for the inconvenience!

To begin the journey to Soldier's Peak, return to your party camp from the world map and seek out a merchant named Levi Dryden. Includes: (1) A fun dungeon-delving adventure; (2) A set of ancient Grey Warden armor, complete with heraldry; (3) A chance to gain two of six mysterious new abilities. (4) A new base complete with merchants and a party chest to store your hard-earned loot."

"Some versions of Dragon Age: Origins contain a redemption code to obtain this content for free. Check your game's packaging before purchasing. Crafted by the ancient dwarves as their first line of defense against the darkspawn, the dread sentinels known as golems dwindled in number after the art of their creation was lost. Shale, one of the few golems remaining, was found in the Deep Roads, reactivated and brought to the surface, and may prove to be the Grey Wardens' most effective weapon against the onslaught of the Blight. Includes: (1) Shale, a unique and powerful golem, as a recruitable party member who is fully integrated into the main Dragon Age: Origins campaign. (2) Brand new plots and adventure areas. (3) Fantastic new items."

The game might look good but no DLC is that good to be priced at 1200MSP... Now I'm definitely not even considering renting this game, but then again it is published by EA so everyone can expect shitty things like this...

I got the secret achievement in Warden's Keep by drinking the expired potion on the table near the end of the level.

I don't know what the secret achievement for The Stone Prisoner is.

Friday, November 06, 2009 @ 06:11:16 PM

The 1200 MSP for stone golem is not unreasonable since buying the game used right now would cost you only $5 less than new so there is no reason why you shouldn't buy it new and get the stone golem for free anyway.

The game is fantastic, I will be firing up my Grey Warden in less than 24 hours and for all of the doubters with this being an EA product, it is only published by EA, Bioware were the designers,so while EA might nickel and dime the DLC, Bioware came through with a great core game that needs no supplement.

Happy Slaying!!

I don't appreciate people buying used games at launch anyways; you're telling me that you can't afford a $60 game, but you've no issue with buying the same product for $5 less and draining profits away from the industry that consumes so much of your time?

You can call EA and Microsoft money-hungry all day long, but the "used" game business (that just about every game retailer participates in) is no better.

The shale DLC is priced high to help push customers toward buying a new copy of the game (where the same DLC is basically free of charge). The cost of the DLC could likely drop by April '10 (I think the DLC included in new copies expires somewhere around that time.

Just wait a year for the game to be repackaged with all the DLC. You'll know about any bugs by then and the game will, you know, actually feel finished when you buy it.

DlC= scam for more money, this should have been released with the game, its such a sham to charge us 1200ms points for something that came out thew same day as the game, wtf? Am I the only one who's boy-cotting shit like this? On a more positive note I recently rented this game and loving it so far, might have to pick it up but i'll be low on cash after MW2, L4D 2 and any DLC they release the same days, which we all know is going to happen to at least a few games this Christmas season (already happening with this game and ME2 in Jan.)

but why should we have to wait a year to buy a game? It should be 'finished' on release, if not then why rush the release date? This is exactly why developers need to sotp releasing DLC the date of release, fucking ridiculous, and buggy as all hell usually.

great news that its fixed- does anyone have any problems downloading the dlc- i have downloaded blood armour and wardens keep fine, but cant download stone prisoner i unlocked the 16 digit code in the games dlc menu and it says its purchased so when i click to download it, it downloads then stops and disappears and all i get is a corrupt file when i look at my system memory to see my downloads on dragon age

@28
I downloaded the stone prisoner just fine. Maybe it has something to do with your internet connection.

This game was supposed to come out in October but it got delayed a month so they could work on the port. While they were doing that I think they were just working on the DLC. I bet that they were planning on releasing the DLC in November so that it'd have already been a month after the game's release.

Also only 100g can actually be a good thing. By making it worth a little gs Bioware can actually release more DLC. I read through the comments and it looks like you guys are only interested in the gs and wouldn't purchase a great add-on unless it came with achievements.

Saturday, November 07, 2009 @ 05:49:14 AM

It's worth 1200, honestly.

Shale is, hands down, the best tank in the game. He outshines every other possible tank. (I've leveled 3 chars to 20) That alone makes him worth it. He's a great tank and makes even dragon fights easier because he holds aggro so well and regens like a monster.

Saturday, November 07, 2009 @ 01:54:07 PM

this is what I hate. ever since DLC was conceived, game developers don't have to do their jobs. they can make their games 1/2 as big and get 2x the profit. I mean come on, this game has been out for a month and already has 2 DLCs. that is what i call a scam. I'm not saying this as a shot at dragon age specifically, as most of the games on the market are doing it.

Saturday, November 07, 2009 @ 02:18:51 PM

I dont see what the big problem is considering the DLC that costs 1200 is included in the game. But I guess it pisses off people that just intend to borrow the game anyway...

Saturday, November 07, 2009 @ 02:24:12 PM

@ 33 or you can get it for the PC, get a better game control wise and a wealth of player created mods plus it is 10 dollars cheaper. The fact that so many 360 players are whining about something that it obviously a PC game is not even funny.

u all need to stfu and stop crying about launch dlc. the game is massive and its not a "half done" game with dlc to fill the gap. if u dont want it then dont buy its very simple. also to most people its good to have achievements for the dlc because it makes the game more fun with a goal to reach. i for one will never buy a dlc with no achievements because i am addicted to that sweet feeling when u hear that sound and see "ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED" ..........mmmmmmm achievements.........i'm gonna go get some achievements right now in fact.

Dragon Age is really not the greatest RPG i have ever played i would way rather play Oblivion over this...there are parts of the game that are laggy, the fights are boring, way too much talking not enough gameplay, half the time your party gets in the way when you try to fight someone, alot of loading when trying to complete one mission. I mean overall this game doesn't deserve a 9. I'm just glad i wasted $9.65 and not $50-60, as for DLC all they are trying to do is rip people off i mean who is going to pay 1200 mp to get a golem to help you out? They need to put more time into this game, there was a bunch of hype but it didnt deliver...I know there are some other people out there that probably disagree and all i have to say is WAKE THE F*** UP!! especially to Bioware. I have had this game

Saturday, November 07, 2009 @ 03:36:28 PM

For only 4 days and i have been through more talking than anything. What Bioware needs to do is take the game back and put more time into it, the graphics look like shit and the gameplay does not make up for all the different types of quests there are, playing this game is a waste of time i think personally.

Hey, BlitzkriegHawk, are you retarded or what? I understand boycotting shitty DLC but if you are going to buy this game like you say, YOU'RE GOING TO GET THE DLC FOR FREE! It's a way to get people to buy the game from them instead of used, as has been stated. Really, either DLC isn't particularly long, but I've made use of the items there and Shale is a lifesaver for my Rouge. Him, and Alistar of course; what with getting at that Witch of the Wilds ass, I don't have much time for fighting.

Josh: If you want straight action, go play CODMW2 next week. This game is excellent in my opinion, and believe me, it did take a while to get comfortable. Games like this, that are story driven, are so awesome. It takes a lot to write out a great story and this one is pretty damned good. I feel it deserves a 9/10. But hey, it's just my opinion, just as yours was. Oh, and for the Shale DLC: Look up at my previous post, it kind of pertains to you as well.

Saturday, November 07, 2009 @ 06:02:39 PM

Don't you just love how so many people know absolutely nothing about the game industry? A game isn't released the day it goes gold, it has to go gold then be put in to mass production to be prepared for release so there is some time between when the game you get on the disc is "finished" and the time that it hits store shelves. Now, thanks to DLC and patches, the developer can continue to work on the game after it goes gold and either create more content or fix issues that are discovered after the fact. This is why it is common to have a patch on day one or day one DLC, because the dev declared the game gold, then kept working on it.

As for the people complaining about the cost of the DLC, the one that cost 1200 MSP is free if you buy the game new in any form, not just the collector'

Saturday, November 07, 2009 @ 06:02:59 PM

collector's edition, and if you read the description of the DLC in the article you would know that. It is just a way to try and get people to buy the game rather than buy it used or rent it. The other DLC is free to PC users that buy the digital deluxe edition, as a way to make up for the fact that that version includes not physical content.

Saturday, November 07, 2009 @ 06:27:35 PM

"The game might look good but no DLC is that good to be priced at 1200MSP."

That's not the point of the pricing. The pricing is an ignorant attempt by publishers to fight the used games market. Forza is doing the same shit, having content only for new retail copies. Only they're not asshole enough to resell it on the side for an absurd $15. Every time EA takes a step forward with stuff like Dead Space, Need For Speed: Shift, and Dragon Age, they go and take 10 steps back pulling bullshit stunts like this.

Hmm well I bought this game Thursday not knowing anything about certain packages coming with free DLC. Guess I didn't read into the game well enough... Sucks considering I really like the game so far but I'm not shelling out 1200 msp on that DLC for 50 gs...

This is where GS fails....too many people care to much for it. Even if the DLC is beyond amazing...people still wont buy it because it has no achievements..yet people buy shitty DLC thats overpriced...just to get the Gs...Achievements are fun to get i admit...but it shouldn't be the reason for buying the game or DLC. judge the game by the GAME and not the GS that is really, just numbers...

Saturday, November 07, 2009 @ 10:59:25 PM

ahem, the industry is only adjusting itself to the new ways of gaming, that not only being used copies but gamefly as well. i am a proud member of gamefly and being so am also happy to DL the DLC to support the company that made such a fine product. before you go bashing, do you think GF gets its copies for free? No, they also support the industry by buying thousands of copies right off the bat. so, if you buy the game, it basically comes with the game, but if you wait for the used prices to lower, or if you are a member of GF, you pay the 15 bucks. simple as that. (also this game kicks fucking ass, would buy the dlc even if i had bought a new copy and it didnt come with it)

Clearly you have no taste in games if you believe anything published by EA is garbage.

Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead and The Orange Box are all published by EA. It's not like they are making you purchase the DLC either.. it's basically thanking the gamer for buying the game new. Also remmember this is a Bioware game, it's going to be good.
Also you get alot of DLC that are worth more than 1200MSP? It seem's like mother won't let you buy this DLC and your stuck in a rut, but you didn't hear that from me.

I am reading the arguments and I can set it straight. The dlc is nothing crutial. It's just another character that you can take along with you on your quests, that also has a few small quests of his own.
The game will give you several characters to choose from to join you just like they did with Mass Effect. I have put several hours into the game and still haven't decided to go look his quests up. I know when I get him he will just be a character whose stats start with a higher strength level than average. Nothing too special.

the way i see it, having the DLC for this game is like having the directors cut, as it were. just some extra suplimental material put into the game that doesn't necissarily NEED to be added, but simply gives more to the experience. just shut up and buy the fuckin game.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
