Microsoft and Sky's Official Xbox Sky Player Price Plan & Channel Listing Announced

Dan Webb

If you've been sat here for the past week praying that the rumoured price and channel listing we posted last week for the Sky Player on your Xbox was no more than a superficial rumour, then let me be the first to break the bad news.

With the Sky Player hitting the UK today, Microsoft and Sky today released the price plan for their service and to say the pricing is a little inflated is a bit of an understatement.

Check out all the plans/pricing/channel listing below. Then to see how absurd they are, head on over to see the original Sky price plans here. My personal favourite, for the top package on the Xbox, you can go to Sky, pay £7 more and get free broadband, free phone, Sky HD and a crapload more channels. Just saying.

Oh, and you need to be an Xbox Live Gold Member as well. Hey, if you have Sky Multiroom or Sky Broadband, at least you can get it free.

The Subscription Plan and Channel Listing Breakdown

Non– Sky TV customers will require a monthly subscription which starts at £15 per month to Sky Player’s Base Entertainment Pack, customers who want watch Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, ESPN and Sky Movie channels will be able to add these channels to their Base Entertainment Pack for an additional cost.  In addition to the live channels, customers will also have access to on-demand programmes from channels they subscribe to.

Customers with Sky Multiroom or Sky Broadband Unlimited subscriptions are additionally able to access live channels for no extra charge. Customers who do not have subscriptions to Sky Broadband Unlimited or Sky Multiroom are still able to access the live channels by taking an online Sky Player multiroom subscription for £5 per month.

  • £50! Rip-Off
  • can't we use MS points? lol
  • i got multiroom 2 years ago and now have it on the xbox, but is really glitchy as it keeps on disconnecting and going to dashboard but then sometimes my internet goes for a second or so. anyone else got this problem?
  • AHH we havent got multi-room. The impression at first was that if you at least have Sky and a gold membership its would be free... which sounded good to me. But then they mess it up :( Come on Microsoft!!! Disappointed Rumours of Live membership doubling is a little concerning too... if they do that then they'll throw away everything they have managed to achieve so far....
  • wtf!!!!!!!!!!!
  • i posted this elsewhere, but ill just copy and paste. visit the Xbox website and click on the sky player link. they have offer codes at the moment. 3 months for the price of 2 – CODE: XBOX3FOR2 1 month free for existing sky sub – Code:XBOX1MONTHFREE expires: 05/02/2010 enter these on the sky player website when choosing your package.
  • i suppose i can cough up a fiver a month for sky tv, not brilliant, but not too bad.
  • Good idea but im not gonna pay basic £15 quid for a few channels which will prob buffer to hell look shite
  • @3 I am getting this also. It will either say unable to open sky player or ask about troubleshooting network connections. I did get it too work briefly; but it keeps doing it.
  • yeah mine keeps disconnecting too, and slow streaming buffers ever minute or so on a 3mb connection :(
  • Oh well, I have Multiroom so no charge for me. Still probably won't use it anyway.
  • Time to put my Sky Broadband to the test - can it handle it's -own- streaming service over Live? Haha. Should be interesting.
  • For all the people currently experiencing problems with Sky Player its because there is a fault on the Sky Player Services...theres a thread about it on Xbox UK Forums. Sky are trying to solve the problem and should fix it by the end of the day, even the sky player main website login is down...the people who got it to work are lucky. I download Sky Player first thing this mourning, saw the interface then got the error/s - now just reloaded up xbl dashboard and i dont even see the Sky Player on video marketplace...and aload of new movie content is added but when you click on it it says "content not available" - movies such as Star Trek (latest one).
  • nope it can't :P
  • It's a bloody outrageous pricing system they have here - but to be honest, I didn't expect the prices to be any lower than what Sky customers already pay. Virgin Media FTW!
  • MS SUCK!!! Leading us on saying it was free when its overpriced and crap
  • where is it??
  • No mention of individual pay-per-view programmes being available. It looks like you have to commit to a subscription to get any kind of access to this.
  • RETARDED!!!
  • I was looking forward to this for ages, thought I could finally have a Sky Sports Channel in my house so I could watch Man United in my own room. BUT these prices hae destroyed my dreams, no chance I am paying that.
  • i cant find it anymore :(
  • NOTE: It seems to have been pulled temporarily. We'll let you know when it's back up and running.
  • might as well jus get a sky package with your broadband, tv and phone line all together for less. existing customers are gunna get all the benefit from this
  • If it works again, i am able to use my mums sky subscribtion even though she lives 5 miles away. she has no sky player or multiroom and no internet. my thoughts are that if i create a sky id etc for her are giv her the £5 per month no one will be any the wiser???? or will they???
  • this makes me sick- for £15 the amount of channels you get is pathetic
  • @23 You think they'd sort it out BEFORE releasing it. Then this wouldn't happen...
  • What an absolute joke of a pricing system. Talk about milking it for all it's worth Rob
  • i get it for free but sky aND MICROSOFT OR WHOEVERS PRICES THIS SHIT UP CAN SUCK MY DICK . IT WOULD BE CHEAPER AND BETTER FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT GETTING IT FREE JUST TO BUY A PROPER SKY BOX ! HOPEFULLY NO ONE WILL BUY IT :)
  • #29 your right they might aswell get a skybox or even skyHD it will probably cost more but you get all channels like skyone all the movie channels plus it will be in HD.
  • Jesus ripoff. Also downloaded it earlier....and it didn't work. As sual Microsoft blames my network and tells me to test it. And some time later I come back...and it's not on the dashboard anymore.....wow...broken broken microsoft.
  • i have sky multi-room woot woot
  • not at all surprised...sky and ms like to rip people off. i love the fact that most will have a sky box near a tv next to their xbox...so this all seems a little pointless to me...meh, pass on this overinflated rubbish
  • What a load of wank. I don't watch TV much these days anyway.
  • This is ridiculous. What happened to 'existing sky customers with a gold membership can view at no extra charge'? Absolutely fucking stupid. What next, 20MS points for every time you try to use twitter or facebook on live? Ha. We're already paying 60 fucking euro a year just to be a full member of the god damn community and now they're charging for every single little extra. I've invested too much money into this console..
  • What is is that MS doesn't understand about a bad economy? If you have less people buying what you are selling, you don't jack up the price! Looks like MS put it out when it was half finished too. typical MS.
  • so basically i might aswell get multiroom and have more channels
  • agree with that! seems we get no benefit for xbl gold apart from playing on line!! greedy ms! no wonder people are still buying shitty ps3's
  • We got sky but not multiroom so does this mean i have to pay extra to get it on xbl? if so they can stick it bunch of robbing cunts!!!
  • LOL. Damn Microsoft really need to get smarter people in their marketing dept. This is just epic fail.
  • BBC iplayer is free on PS3 with a great Music VOD Service I am a xbox junkie but this is starting to sway me towards the ps3 more and more. With a free live service its hard to deny sony are fighting back strongly.
  • so, if I was to sign up for the entertainment pack plus a single sports pack, would that still entitle me to all of the sky sports on demand content? or do i need the dual pack for that? and can any content be viewed as pay per view without a full subscription?
  • First this and then theres a rumor going around that MS are going to charge twice the price for Gold Membership and the locking out of third party memory units. Its not cricket at all.
  • It's so expensive because it just came out.. if it's cheap and fair and they don't know exactly who will get it, it may not do well they risk too much so jack the prices to be a bit safer. Like Braid. :D sort of. Or I'm wrong and they are ass holes. Whatever.
  • 50 Pounds? Wtf.
  • £29.99!! Its 15£ for the 3 months Gold, And Remote Bout £20 Then a Month Sky Sports!! Bargain.
  • wtf what a rip off
  • ok i gota ask though why would anyone wana watch tv on your 360? when you already have cable or youtube, or some other alternative that wouldnt be another cost o.o
  • this takes the piss you have to have multiroom to watch it most people that have multiroom will have a sky box in the same room as the xbox. and @15 i agree
  • question how do u get the sky on the xbox?? is it an update or summin?
  • Way to expensive! I'll stick to watching everything online for free :)
  • My god i was expecting it to be £10 a month for every single channel :O
  • Pretty pointless really seen as you can get more channels for the same money and you wont have to rely on an internet connection. What a load of shite
  • I already pay for sky, it would have been good to watch the footy in a party but they're not getting an extra penny out of me!
  • Ok so i got the Sky Player download on my dashboard this morning, downloaded it, opened it up and got greeted with an error message and to check my connection. Tried several times but still got the same message. Now it's vanished from my dashboard! Why put up summit that's gotta bug in it???
  • And this was there answer to netflix lol what a joke they should have got a deal with lovefilm or blockbuster online to supply movies and tv series that would of made more sense and been cheaper, i have this free cuz ive got the top sky packages but even i wont use it hopefully it will die a quick death and microshaft will find a better deal......oh w8 nah scratch that it aint gonna happen ;)
  • anyone who pays for sky player is a fucking idiot its not worth t just sky trying to rip peolple off again thats why i ended my contract with them worst customer services ever
  • sorry for the double post but i just gotta add that facebook , twitter and zune marketplace are all shit the only good thing bout the upcoming update is LastFm and that aint great cuz u cant listen while playing!! they give u a preview its just a shame they dont let u say no thanks to the update lol
  • seriously, fuck that!
  • TBH if you ask me the pricing is rediculus.. most people who have sky multiroom will have there xbox in the same room E.G. living room or bedroom.. so it is pointless in that respect especially seen as it free for them. i think it should be free to all gold customers say a £15 for silver... i think that is fair
  • 2 questions Who came up with the joke of a price plan ? - the local drunk that the MS and SKY big wigs passed by .. Why isnt it working ? - The local drunk didnt turn up to work
  • this isn't worthwile for anybody, if you are an existing sky customer, u may as well upgrade to multiroom as it will cost you less, and if you haven't got sky already, you may as well join sky and get a free box and the rest of it. it doesn't make sense, wheres the benifit here?
  • @20. You sir sound scarily like me :P I thought I'd be able to pay one off charges to watch United every week or so. No luck :( Back to internet streaming and radio for me ^^
  • holy mother of fuck. What a total bump. Well played MS. Well Played. for this kind of money (as admittedly stated in the blurb) you can pretty much get a whole package. Why just get Tv when you can get the rest. This is insanely priced. What a fucking waste.
  • lol im not arsed about the sports or movie channels and i have multiroom and broadband max SCORE!!!!. but its not available to download atm for some reason...
  • I thought this was gonna be cool but sounds like another rip off to me.
  • i dont have sky, i have the internet... thats free to watch stuff, screw MS making us pay for stuff thats free.
  • Ridiculous! Waste of money! just like avatar marketplace items!
  • Well, we all knew this was bound to happen...>_>
  • WOW so i need to pay a minimum of £27 if i want ESPN along with entertainment pack. forget that terrible pricing for just online price plan
  • mircosoft has ruined the xbox market plans, avatars are usless and they want us to spend cash for items then this sky stuff is just over done, its ruinned, so im stiking to games.
  • It has to make you laugh because you can get Sky HD with all channels for £44.25 a month with free box and dish. you can check out the list here http://packages.sky.com/offers/mostpopular/. I even reckon you could get the £30 installation for free if you asked nicely. Why would anyone get it on the 360 when you could get it in HD and for less from Sky. Come on they really haven't thought this one through have they!
  • youre better off buying multiroom
  • Wank Wank Wank Fuck Off Sky we dont want you shit!!
  • Is it just me, or have they not included Sky One in the entertainment package? (which I assumed would be a given).
  • Can someone explain to me why Sky Multiroom and Sky Broadband users have any need for this feature? I have them but why would I want to use this player on the Xbox? There's no point whatsoever.
  • Im confused. I have sky broadband but do i have to pay anything at all? If i do then that would be real pathetic!
  • i was tempted by this but we are getting sky multiroom next month and my mine problem is if your always watching sky on your xbox its more likely to cause RROD. if ESPN came free with it then i'd get it just for that but sadly no, might give it a try when we have multiroom just to have a Football Party!
  • MICRO$OFT + $KY = :(
  • @76 You may have sky one the tele downstairs and the broadband on a desktop somewhere else. The 360 could be in another bedroom and thus this allows sky in another place. You raise a good point though, the amount of sky broadband and/or multiroom users who will get any practical use out of this is very minimal. I have a pc in my room where the 360 is and my pc is hooked up to the tele so this isn't that much use. And the fact that the 360 makes more heat and noise than my pc will make me choose that the pc anyway. I will only use this for football mathces as i have some friends who can get it also so we can chat whilst watching.
  • the only way anyone can justify buying this is if they dont have sky in the first place... but even then its only better for 10 - 11 months cause you dont have to pay for the digibox or installation which if i remember rightly is about £100? but then again you dont all the channels do you =( bad move MS, and whats this about possible doubling of the XBL price? theres no way they can justify £80 for a year sub. can they?
  • already got multi-room with sky + in my room, no need for it
  • if you want to watch tv watch the tv use the xbox to play games it very simple and cheaper.
  • sky player is up and running now im now watching sky one
  • Very expensive, but if you are already a Sky Customer or a mutli-room Sky customer than it is a very good deal! :)
  • so what do you get if you have sky tv but not multiroom or sky broadband. Do you still get the on-demand programmes. As it said "Customers with Sky Multiroom or Sky Broadband Unlimited subscriptions are additionally able to access live channels for no extra charge" so do you get the on-demand free if you have sky tv and live gold?
  • yes u do bullittthnuder im on there now with no broadband or multiroom and there are s**t loads of programmes to watch on demand as long as u have them channels in your original sky package
  • @84. Are you sure? Ive just checked and its not on there :/
  • im sure mate if you have already downloaded it this morn before it got took off dashboard press your guide button then quick launch then go to the right on latest downloads its there then press a to launch im on it RIGHT now add me if u dont believe me
  • Ill have a look inabit pal and from what your saying, i believe you :)
  • Has the update gone out yet? Its not here for me
  • have u already downloaded it bleeding star
  • nope
  • one word. FREEVIEW. personaly its cheaper to hire films when its something i want to watch and i dont watch sport other than whats on channel 5 anyway. but its nice idea if you have sky.
  • I have Sky Unlimited Broadband, we just changed to it the other day by chance [: its pretty good but im excited to set this up, however i go to the dash and all i see is two videos about the sky nothing actually letting me DL a player.
  • Well what did everyone expect, it is Microsoft after all. This is the same company who charge £19.99 for games on demand, when you can go down the shops and buy them for about 5 quid each!!
  • Rediculously expensive... would be surprised if anyone signed up for this... M$ will soo learn it aint gonna fly and lower the costs if they want it to work.
  • Now i know why Microsoft dropped BBC and their iPlayer, the got this offer from sky so the can make some big BUCKS, fuck i really hate money grabbing bastards!!!!
  • Oh well gonna give this a miss as never watch much TV anyway (Too many good games to play) Plus what i do watch i just download it. Stinks of rip-off if you ask me.
  • so the facebook update was an utter disappointment due to the limited use of the features for each add on, and now this also disappoints. These add ons are going down hill.
  • Whats going on? Where does it say i can download?
  • it doesnt
  • Will it anytime soon???
  • sod that! multi room is only an extra £10 a month. what a rip off
  • Why is everyone knocking microsoft on this? The multiroom subscription was the same price regardless of watching it on the xbox. Sky is the one charging it and sky is the one you pay it to
  • m
  • Sky have had to shut the servers down for sky player on the xbox due to a major overload of people using it lol
  • I fucking love my xbox, really I do.. but its stuff like this, makes me wonder what MS are playing at
  • why can't MS just be nice...For once?
  • Yeah the prices are ridiculous but I didn't expect to get it to free. I challenge all those saying 'Microsoft said this would be free' to provide me with a link where they actually said that. I'll eat my words if you can.
  • MS+360+Sky= Blaaaah RIP-OFF!! PS3+BBCiplayer=FREE!! (Yes i own both systems before anybody has a go) What's the point in us gamers being charged more for another pointless service [Facebook,Twitter and Zune included] My 360 is a GAMES console NOT a multi this and that, wash the dishes, hoover the floor, make my bed system! Does anybody from MS actually read these posts? If they did, surely they would see that the majority of us gamers don't give a f**k about the Sky player rip off! Blaaaah!!
  • you know i cant really blame them for trying to make a buck and to be completely honest, who can? but the simple fact of the matter is this, its not entirely hard to make somthing that works at a low cost. ahem cough XBMC. maybe MS should get more community input before they go wasting thier resources on a total fail. i wont buy this.
  • i gt sky player on 360 it is sick except that theres always problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • what a load of shit. i hope microsoft go broke after pulling shit like this. fuck those greedy cunts and fuck sky while we're at it
  • I just want to point out that it's actually way more than likely it's Sky that are making the prices high rather than Microsoft. MS would want it as cheap as possible as it's another reason for people to buy a 360 over a PS3 (imagine the marketing advantage if they could say you get Sky TV with this console for only £10 a month!) but Sky aren't going to allow a service there making great money off currently just be given away for peanuts via a different system, everyone would just cancel their subscription and start getting it a lot cheaper through there 360's! This is why as soon as it was announced i knew it was pointless hoping for it too be cheaper.
  • lol fuck streaming i download my shit an whack it on a hard drive tho them dicks at sky must think they are pretty smart...money grabbin dildoes
  • Why do people keep bringing up the PS3 and BBCiPlayer? You can get an iPlayer anyway through a computer and a Nintendo Wii.
  • u didn't expect this from MS? wow. Btw where are the pron channels?
  • Anyone thats fucking crying because this costs is a moron. You think because you own a 360 you'd get sky for free? You have to be a fucking idiot. If that was the case us sky payers would cancel our payments and all put a 360 in the living room.
  • HOLY F***IN ASSCRACKERS! I just did a quick cram of those numbers (since I'm an ignorant American who only deals in USD) and that's like 80+ bucks a month! Or $40-somethin for just the weakest one! Where has Microsoft's mind gone?!?! After they want me to pay triple price on Games On Demand for things I could get at Walmart or GameStop for $10, then *this*?! How, exactly, do they plan on making money with these? I'm no econ major, but this seems waaay out of wack.
  • Overpriced shit. 'nuff said
  • one word...LOL! wonder what tv service australia get? come on austar/foxtel
  • one word...LOL! i wonder what tv service australia is goin to get austar/foxtel or i have $100 on none
  • i'll stick with Cable with a PVR
  • Meh. Can't say as I'm surprised. I'm already staging my protest by refusing to buy into their ridiculous (and broken) service, Mr Murdoch can go suck hairy monkey balls.
  • Got multiroom but cannot find the options to use the thing yet
  • well I just got an update but Skys not there lol
  • its not even on my 360 yet any ideas?
  • #4 I Doubt they would duble it i wudnt pay 80 quid for membership or what evr
  • Strike 2 Microsoft. This is makes me glad I have FREEVIEW.
  • Why can people, 'cough up a fiver' its a total rip-off. go watch it where the box is, i'd rather keep the money, and get off my arse when I wanted to watch sky and go to the room its at. even worse if your xbox is through the same TV as sky. just 1 buton and you have it for no extra cost!
  • @132 im confused by your question (i assume youre quoting me) i cant watch it where the box is cause everyone else in the house takes over that room, also sky multiroom is £10 a month, whereas ms is offering it for 5 a month and you dont have to buy another box. it IS a ripoff, but i can deal with that.
  • whers sky one?
  • All working for me. Anyone watching the football tonight, add me: Gamecarton
  • Still no option to get sky yet, am i missing something here?
  • try rebooting your console then it should be on the video marketplace section
  • This is terrible, very terrible. Microsoft and Sky, you both suck.
  • It's nothing more than a JOKE. There's not a cat in Hell's chance I'll pay those prices. I wouldn't mind if I didn't already pay for everything I use on Xbox Live. But this, this is abominable. I would only use Sky Sports, but why pay that when I could so easily go to the pub and buy a drink with the money I would use on MS???????
  • its not showing on my profile yet on another profile on my machine it is but cant connect at all kee getting error codes yet i can connect perfectly to it on my PC this is taking the piss
  • 24 channels kinda sucks but i cant complain seeing as i have sky already but whats with the error code, i thought they fixed this
  • this is the most pathetic thing ive ever seen. Makes me sick
  • Somehow I doubt my half a meg connection will cover this. And it should be free. Aww mannn.
  • Well judging from all the add-ons like twitter and facebook and skyplayer, and the serious lack of decent games lately and coming up in the near future, it makes me wonder if MicroSoft are actually turning the Xbox away from being a gaming console and turning it into a family entertainment system instead. What a horrendous thought but I can see it happening.
  • dis is really f*****g annoying it was workin in da morning for me but nw its gone wen i was preparing 2 watch arsenal v liverpool!!!!!!!!
  • the sky player online duznt work either n my mums hogging da tv watching boring soaps!!!!!!!!! lol!!!!
  • Rip off !
  • Rip off!! I'll still use my sky box!
  • Also all videoes and movies on Xbox 360 NEVER have subtitle! If sky on Xbox 360 doesnt have subtitle.. FUCK IT AND I'LL STICK WITH SKY BOX. I really need subtitle cos im deaf and microsoft is lazy cunt to put subtitle! but...if sky on xbox 360 does have subtitles...i'll still STICK WITH SKY BOX lol
  • Just thought Id post an update, it seems they're starting to get it working I think, Ive just got it, downloaded it and am streaming live tv on it right now, its about time
  • @149 - not all of the stuff on sky box has subtitles and as far as i know the 360 player doesnt have them
  • No Uk living and most movie channels are missing and about same price as skybox, your better off with Skybox.
  • If you have two xboxs in your house do you have to subsribe twice and pay double fees and also can you access both at once?
  • How do I get the e-mail thingie to get sent to my inbox so I can watch stuff?
  • I was under the impression that even though I have sky in the house and I am an unlimited broadband customer, I dont have skysports in my package but I thought I would be able to watch live games on demand without having to go to sky.com , buy a box and another package...which seems to be the only option its giving me...
  • i have just subscribed to sky player multiroom for the xbox 360 but i ccannot watch live tv yet can anyone help me plz?
