Fable 3

Act Surprised: Molyneux Confirms Fable 3 Will Have Natal Support
Written Wednesday, October 21, 2009 By Dan Webb

When Peter Molyneux announced Fable 3 at this year's GamesCom, he spent a good 40 minutes subtely hinting that the title would support Natal. If you were following our live blog of it back then, surely you would have known this. To quote myself... "He's not out and out said it, but I can't help but get the feel that he's suggesting it will use Natal."

Well the inevitable happened today as Peter Molyneux confirmed that Fable 3 will support Natal in his games lecture in central London this evening.

The reports started dropping on Twitter a few hours back with Eurogamer's Johnny Minkley confirming the inevitable; that Fable 3 will "support Natal." One tweet even quotes Molyneux as saying, "we'd be pretty stupid not to use natal in Fable 3."

So then... act surprised. Don't expect it to be a fully enabled Natal game though, I think that much is clear, but expect Natal "support." Molyneux even joked that it could feature a faeces simulator. Ha, now that would start a bit of a shit storm... literally and figuratively. We're extremely interested to see how this is going to pan out. We're all for innovation.

It'sll probably be good fun having Natal.

But just now at least, I still don't really want it, or see a need for it.
(other than the obvious profits that MS have their sights set on).

I'm fine with controllers thanks.
Leave the while, moving to play crap with the Wii before we get inundated with an unbelieveable amount of third rate games that are just looking to cash in on Natal.

I'm not going to attack Natal because the geek in me finds the technology extremely cool and promising, 1 step closer to the Holodeck and all that jazz, but I have absolutely no interest in owning the thing for myself. I truly hope this isn't the future of Xbox.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 @ 08:06:23 PM

Well of course its going to be optional. If they didn't make it option then it would hurt Fable 3's sale numbers, who would buy natal just to play Fable 3? (ehh maybe a lot but not as many as they will if you can play without it)

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 @ 08:12:21 PM

NO NO NO NO NO c'mon lionhead that is so unfair!. I've been with fable since the beginning and this is the reward
I get for staying up all hours of the night playing the lost chapters and looking for time months in advance to free in my schedule so I can pick up the limited collectors edition of fable 2. THIS IS WHAT WE GET! i'm furious project Natal was a stupid idea from the start and it will do nothing but ruin every game that tries to implement natal support into it. I remember just a short two years ago when xbox was xbox, wii was wii, and fable was fable. This is really going down hill fast and I'm not happy.

Thursday, October 22, 2009 @ 12:13:25 AM

Natal seems like a good idea as long as it is optional in these big title games. If I wanted to play the Wii I would go buy one, but only one of every 20 games for the Wii is even considered decent. Hopefully we wont have to deal with the same type of games with my precious 360.

Thursday, October 22, 2009 @ 12:31:58 AM

I personally think Natal is a bad idea. Microsoft is just trying to capitalize on the market the Nintendo has been milking for the past couple years.

The 360's charm isn't in accessory gimmicks but in software quality. They'd do well to remember that.

Thursday, October 22, 2009 @ 12:37:29 AM

I'm sure that Natal and the Wii are different, in case none of you have actually played a Wii before, you use a remote. Natal uses the body, so it's alot different from the Wii.

With that out of the way, I'm sure it will not be compulsory to use Natal and I'm certain Microsoft/Lionhead would not be stupid enough to make us pay for Natal just so we can play Fable 3 or any other future games that will support it, despite that Microsoft is obviously hungry for our monies.

I will likely get Fable 3, as long as it has lots of new features and looks exciting and has a compelling story.

Thursday, October 22, 2009 @ 12:39:14 AM

Natal-ing what kind of crap that natal will pull. I bearly know the divice by name and I'm already hating the idea. yah... Tired of the wii-wannabies. I hate trying to break my arm to get the damn system to read what I did in the first place much less try to find an invisibe reading point of where to stand and look like a flipping blonde trying to find her belly button (I'm a brunette btw)

Thursday, October 22, 2009 @ 12:48:51 AM

I have no interest in Natal at all , I had the WII and lost interest in it rapidly . When I play games I want to sit down and have fun not jump around sweating and look like a douche. As long as Fable 3 can be played without Natal I'll be happy but if you need to have Natal in order to play it then Lionhead can lick my scrotum.

I cannot believe that people are so narrow minded that they actually think this is a bad thing!

In all likelihood the Natal support will be facial and vocal recognition. I'm surprised that there are any RPG fans out there who wouldn't want NPC's to recognise their face and be more personal when talking to them. It will be less generic!

OPEN YOUR MINDS!!!!!!!!!!!

Thursday, October 22, 2009 @ 01:06:27 AM

As long as something like Milo isn't in the game, I'm cool with it. Seriously, the whole Milo concept freaks me out.

I also agree with #58, as long as Natal isn't required to enjoy every aspect of the game, it's fine. Microsoft better remember to keep Natal as an OPTION ONLY, never should it be a requirement.

So far I just see this as a hands-free Wii. I played the Wii a lot and I still prefer a standard controller. Allows me to enjoy the game instead of trying to get motion actions correct.

I was really looking forward to Fable 3 but this news makes me worry. Hopefully natal is an optional choice. Don't get me wrong, I do like the idea of natal it's just that there is no chance that I'll be getting it until a good while after release especially not at the likely £300/£400.

A lot of you are missing the point, Natal is specifically aimed at core gamers, or people that have already bought an xbox, its supposed to try and get a wider range of people to buy the xbox instead of the wii, aka Families and little kids!, thats why the Natal trailers feature mainly families in them, playing games together.
Personally i have no intention of buying Natal, it dosnt appeal to me, it will KILL!! FPS like Gears, COD and Halo if it was implemented.

I wont be getting fable 3, personally i found fable 2 a disgrace, i LOVED the lost chapters, playing 12 hours a day for years. i was so excited about fable 2 ... i enjoyed it, then the DLC come out and corrupt all my save files, after swapping the game disk 4 times because everytime i brought it home the game wouldn't work ... Maybe they should try fixing fable 2, before they release 3? im assuming im not the only one thats had the same problems? ... but these problems have ruined the series for me ... and now natal? Cmon ...

What the bets that Natal will go down in hostory with the 32x, Sega CD and Nintendo Virtual Boy?

Fable II was a massive let down for me so no to Fable III.

Also remember Molyneux is involved. It will not be as good as he ever says. Give credit to the man's imagination, its just to big to realise.

I imagine that this will be the gimmick that ruins the next game, they'll spend far too much time trying to make you fall in love with using the Natal controller/camera/whatever you want to call it that they'll forget to put in any gameplay. Cut out all the nonsense and stick to the fundamentals Pete!

I have enough problems playing games on my PS3 with the lame Six Axis controller. @ 87,
Yeah, pretty much my sentiments. Microsoft is banking on the whole 'family gaming' idea, but will essentially be one of those 'almost, not quite' deals. Dunno what the price will be for this overdressed webcam, but you can bet it won't be cheap, and won't be used in a lot of hardcore games.

Besides, what ever happened with using the old 360 webcam? What a waste...

I almost laughed out loud at some of the lame "I'm not going to buy this game because a new controller is OPTIONAL", what a bunch of idiots.

Next they'll be complaining that since driving games can use an OPTIONAL steering wheel, it makes the game more expensive to play.

The idea is to increase the game's usability and make it more fun to play, but then again, you probably wouldn't know fun if it hit you in the faces as you all want to sit rooted to your couches without moving for hours on end - try getting up and moving once in a while, then you won't weigh 300 pounds, smell and have no girlfriend!

how would that work? jog on the spot to walk? about natal, i dont mind the voice related things, but everything else is just an upgrade of the wii. Who would;ve thought a smaller version of a camera would cost so much. 1 thing they've forgot about the voice recognision is puberty. I really hope natal doesn't suck and that all game don't become waggle central.

I really hope the Natal bombs big time. I'd buy a Wii if I wanted to play this motion-control bullshit. If these types of gimmicks are the future of gaming - there will be no more gaming for me, and i've been into gaming since the Nintendo.

This is going to be slightly off topic as this is about fable 3 more then natal, but when did natal and controllers ever become mutually exclusive? never.

What would be dumb, and a loss of profits would be if a company makes a game where this is the case. There is a huge potential to natal in the games arena if used correctly. If aimed at the wrong target however, it could have quite devistating results.

what im basically saying, is games should support it for the people that want to use it, not force them to. AND it should be supported, not mandatory, so people who only want to use a controller can, and those that want to use both can as well.

I don't think the guy ever said that your character would be motion controlled, so why all the uproar. Maybe it will scan your face so you can have a more original character, maybe your hero can actually have a voice instead of being a mute like the last 2 games. There are a lot more uses to the Natal from what I understand than just moving around like with the Wii. And I consider myself to be a pretty much hardcore, life time gamer, but some people are just so elitist it makes me sick. The Wii has sold like nobody could have believed, so there is nothing wrong with trying to take Nintendo's original ideas and implement them in their own way. Get off your high horses, and stop trying to be cool by jumping on the "Natal sucks" bandwagon. Personally, I love watching games evolve, becau

@114

nah, i think everyone's bitching because they know peter molyneaux is a lying piece of RAT SHIT, sucker has the personality of dead grass, and incorporating natal into fable 3 is just a STUPID "it's different this time, seriously" gimmick.

@92

i laughed out loud at your comment, good stuff, espically the part where you say people who don't want to use natal (basically) are 300lbs, etc, get off the lionhead dick train.

Most of you people don't either read what has been quoted. Seeing that I was at that lecture, he said that FABLE 3 WILL BE CONTROLLER BASED with bits of natal, in other words it's an option only.

Natal looks cool, I suppose, it's just that the Wii is enough "unlazy" gaming for me...

I'm sure he'll find a decent use for Natal.

I have high hopes for Fable 3, I absolutely loved the previous 2 (F2 in particular)
