wish there was some way to refuse it. micro$oft needs to stop forcing their updates on everyone.

Hardly forcing it on you as well. They are giving you the option. Also, it doesn't slow anything down on the dashboard. The dashboard is exactly the same. It's not even cluttered. |

The majority of peoples friend userbase on stuff like Facebook and Myspace, are either people they directly know, or 3rd party friends.
It's naieve to say shit like "(people) who don't have friends in RL" when I can just as easily flip that back on you when you're on a video gaming website...

ok, i see a couple people responded to my comment.
webb, i don't want to get in trouble for arguing with a staff member, but i put the dollar sign in microsoft because while they might be giving us a free update you know they worked some sort of deal with these companies or they wouldn't give a flying f- about these additions either.
also, of course i have the choice of joining these groups or not but fact of the matter is they still make everyone download these updates as soon as the log in to live.
@15 the dashboard has been slow since nxe. sometimes it takes 30 seconds+ to load things on it. i still have 45gb left on my hdd, so that's not the problem. i have 30mb connection, so that's not the problem. plus most people on my friends list agree that their's is slow too. |

In response to your point... I think the reason that Microsoft are doing all this is to add a huge range and wide appeal to the console. Sure great games grace the presence of the console every year, but some people want more, or something different entirely. This is either of those. At the end of the day, they're trying to give their console a more home entertainment vibe and doing so by adding more USPs (unique selling points) to it. In their eyes, I presume, the more the better.
Also, the update is around 10-15 mbs from what I remember and takes about 1 minute to download and install.

I may not really know the definition of "petty insults," hell i may be reading this wrong, but I didn't really see any insults, unless it was the line "they wouldn't give a flying f- about these additions either." I don't know why he censored himself i see plenty of people saying fuck around here, if it's actually a rule you'll have to forgive me, all i know is it's not really an insult.
Unnecessary yes, insult, not really. As for the dashboard slowness, I kinda have to agree with 32 on that as well. At times it can be really slow... and it's annoying... that's about all i have to say. @Webb Let's say I were to install it, and get even worse Dashboard problems would i be able to uninstall this update. |

@ webb again: ok, i see your point. from a business standpoint i can totally see why microsoft would want to include such prominent features. while there's some potential to attract new customers, there are still people that don't want such features (like me).
that's why i feel these updates that completely change the interface and programs of the 360 should not be mandatory.
as you said a good deal of great games come out for the 360 every year. believe me, i have about seven or eight games on pre-order for just the next couple months =). point being, that is what i got my 360 for, gaming. while some features they add appeal to me, they might not for other people and vice versa.
hell, i was happy back with the original dashboard and i would kill to have it back again. avatars, fa |

| Can't be bothered mentioning who this is at but you'll know it if it was you. I feel that there should be freedom in selecting which updates you want, because I sure as hell know that I'm not going to be using facebook and no matter how small the file is, it's taking up room on my hard drive. Also at everyone saying their dashboard is slow, a little while ago mine started to gradually decline into the epitome of a dashboard turtle. Shortly after it got to the point where I didn't really want to start the Xbox up, I got RROD, so just keep an eye on that one. |

I'm not too fussed, i have my laptop with me all the time on Facebook, so it's fairly useless to me. Although i do think it's a good idea, I have lots of friends that play their Xbox for fun with their friends and not just for games.

| For those asking about the difference in email addresses, you could just go to facebook and edit your profile to add another email. I would imagine that would go around any problems. Or you could create a new facebook page with your LIVE email then migrate it to your current facebook account. I have done that before, real easy. |

| @74, under facebook you should just be able to add your hotmail address under your facebook page. You shouldn't have to change your live account. Just go to edit profile and there should be a link to add email address. I would assume that this will make it work on this dashboard app. |

@75, YouTube is flash Media, and would be rather difficult to have and maintain on a console without a browser. so i doubt this will ever happen, though it would be awesome.
@77, i know how to do that. but i use my gmail (facebook) account as my primary email address. my LIVE email address is something i visit like once every other month. that why i want my live account on my gmail. make life easier. but i'm not sure if i can do it. |

The update just makes those new features available. No one is saying that anyone has to use them. It's just there for those that would like to or want to use them and to encourage more people to pick up an Xbox 360 console over the competition.
People are always complaining and some just to be complaining and not for the sake or anything else. If it were the opposite and they didn't include the features, you'd have all the people who wanted the features bitching and complaining about how they should have added it but no... they've added it and you have the people who could care less about it bitching and complaining. Download the update and stop complaining or just buy another console for crying out loud. Are we all really that immature? |
