SEGA Finally Confirms Alpha Protocol Delay

SEGA Finally Confirms Alpha Protocol Delay
Written Thursday, October 15, 2009 by Dan Webb

In what is the surely the most bizarre situation since the general public discovered that Billie Piper was dating aging funny man, Chris Evans (only the Brits may get that reference), SEGA today confirmed the delay of Alpha Protocol... you know, over a week since its previously announced release date.

"We're very happy that Sega has made the decision to hold back the shipment of the game in order to give it the best chance at becoming the publishing success that we at Obsidian and our partners at Sega are striving for," said Obsidian boss, Feargus Urquhart.

Sega Europe MD, Alan Pritchard, commented, "Alpha Protocol has been a very promising title since the beginning of the development cycle. By pushing Alpha Protocol to Spring 2010, we can ensure that the game will be released in the best commercial release window possible and will also receive the focus this true AAA titles deserves."

So, another title running scared of the "busy" fall period it seems. Let's hope the mental spring 2010 schedule doesn't kill it entirely.

Personally, I don't mind games getting pushed back from the holiday season. I'm getting sick of 12 decent games getting released from Jan to Sep, then 12 more decent games coming out in Oct and Nov.

I'm like most others, I don't mind because I already am burning a hole through my wallet with all the other titles I'm buying.

Well at least they admit its because of the bigger games and not just saying it needs more time

LOL @ 2

Anyway, gutted, since it reads like they won't be working on the game between now and launch. Which likely means we are gonna get DLC appear at launch which could have been on the disk.

Oh well, I appreciate their honesty though, cause with MW2 and AC2 and all the rest, it was gonna get ignored by a lot of people I think.

I was really looking forward to fulfilling my spy RPG dream, too. Damn.

I can see this game being a coders nightmare with how every decision has an impact on what happens, or don't happen on several occassions later in the game. X3

Yes pushing it to Spring 2010 will avoid lineup congestion, fucking idiots. Bioshock, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2 and a shitload of others..is Sega just fucking retarded or something?

@19, Bioshock 2 is 2/9/2010 (for now). The others are Q1 2010. They don't even have official release dates yet.

I don't see much congestion there.

@ 2

If you would have been #1 you could have avoided all this reticule.

But seriously, you're a pansy fuck.

Nobody wants to compete with COD:MW2. I'm surprised AC2 doesn't delay as well. I guess they're figuring most gamers will just buy COD for themselves, making AC2 the "gift" game people ask someone else to buy for them.

so all these games that get delayed do they end up just sitting there for 3-4 months? obviously little touch ups happen but you 4 months is a long time

So now the question is where did all the retailers come up with "June 2010", which, in most places, is NOT Spring!

wtf release the game if it's ready. over a month until MW2 comes out, enough time to play through the entire game and probably get almost all of the achievements. the game was already delayed this year for polishing reasons.

Firstly, @2 - you sir, are a moron.

Secondly, on topic, Like 31 said there's a little more than a month between now and Modern Borefare 2 ... unless they're secretly hoping that the *really* under-publicized (by which I mean I haven't heard any ANY multiplayer) will be the new MB2 killer, there's no real reason for the delay.

In a month, the people who were going to buy it at full-price/day one would already have done so and the people who are interested but right away would have bought it eventually or asked for it to be gifted to them - this strategy just ensures that a fair percentage of the target market will have other gaming priorities again ... Idiots

@21 Army of 2: 40th Day releases on Jan 12th, Mass Effect 2 is supposed to release Jan 26th, Lost Planet 2 releases on Feb. 2nd, Bioshock 2 and Dantes Inferno on Feb. 9th, SC: Conviction releases Feb. 23rd, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 releases March 2nd. Most of these dates are official release dates. IMO its very crowded because some games aren't dated yet (like Brink, Just Cause 2, etc..) which will also be trying for spring 2010 release dates.

because of cod 6 they know everyone will get dat and not get this... thats the reason.

Q1 2010 is just as crowded as Q4 2009.

That said, there are more RPGs coming out in Q4 2009.

Spring seems like the right time to release. Long enough after Mass Effect 2 to be the only RPG show in town for a few months. (Fallout New Vegas?)

Well the only hyped RPG coming out Q4 2009 is Dragon Age.

I'm actually not caring about Alpha Protocol though... Sega rarely impresses me anymore so i'm expecting an average game...

Spring 2010 could be anywhere from april - june so hopefully they're smart and don't release it anywhere near Splinter cell.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
