5 More Titles in the US Join the Platinum Hits Range

5 More Titles in the US Join the Platinum Hits Range
Written Tuesday, October 06, 2009 by Dan Webb

Those of you residing in the US can now pick up 5 of the last few years biggest and best titles starting from as little as $19.99, as they join the Xbox Platinum Hits Collection.

The Collection now boasts over 60 titles and to celebrate the line's pure awesomeness, throughout the month of October certain retailers across the US are running a “Buy 2 –Get 1 Free” promotion.

The new titles added to the collection are as follows:

  • Grand Theft Auto IV: A powerful modern-day crime epic set in the most detailed sandbox environment ever created. Explore Liberty City as Niko Bellic, an Eastern European immigrant with a war-torn past in search of the American Dream. The dream quickly turns into a nightmare as he struggles to cope with his cousin’s mounting debt and the seedy underworld of Liberty City.
  • Streetfighter IV:  Brings the legendary fighting series back to its roots by taking the beloved fighting moves and techniques of the original Street Fighter II and infusing them with Capcom's latest advancements in next generation technology to create a truly extraordinary experience.
  • Left 4 Dead:  Set in a modern day survival-horror universe, the co-operative gameplay of Left 4 Dead™ casts four "Survivors" in an epic struggle against hordes of swarming zombies and terrifying "Boss Infected" mutants.
  • Saints Row 2: Five years have passed since your former Saints crew betrayed you.  Rebuild your empire using an arsenal of rocket launchers, stun guns and satchel charges, and transform your crib, crew and ride with total character customization.  Seek revenge against rivals to reestablish yourself as the rightful king of Stilwater.
  • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed:  The saga continues in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, casting players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and unveiling new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. Set in the era between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, players must assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi, and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

Not bad, but already have the ones i care about. And I'm holding off for SF IV to get Super SF IV next year. Still nice though to see more added to Platinum Hits, they should of also added Fable II and Soul Calibur IV since they recently joined the platinum hits too.

Well buy 2 get 1 free would motivate me to pick up some of the games I've been kind of on the fence with. For the price of 1 new game you get 3 older but good games. Thats a good deal.

well for $20 I may pick up a couple of these. I suspect the price stated is actually $30.

@#4 & @#9 - Press release states: "Xbox has selected the top-rated and best-selling games to receive the Xbox Platinum Hits label and will make them available in stores at prices starting as low as $19.99."

Can't tell you what their exact prices are cause I be a lowly Brit, but I will edit in the "prices starting as low as," for clarification.

I already have the ones I care anything about. Although I am pissed that they are already going to be releasing a SUPER Street Fighter IV already... but I won't go into that.

Too bad I bought and sold Left 4 Dead and Star Wars, and I already have Saints Row 2 and GTA4, and I don't care about Street Fighter 4.

#11, that's always been the case but in the past the only $19.99 ones were first party games. Although I suspect with L4D2 coming out and better versions of SW:TFU and SF4 coming out those may be on the $20 price tier.

What retailers are doing a buy 2 get one free promo?

Anybody else against the ugly PLATINUM HITS (or CLASSICS in AU) border that goes around the original box art? I'd rather if they just made it cheaper and perhaps a sticker or an outer thin cardboard casing with the platinum crap on it with the pretty original art on the inside.

Meanwhile, in Australia, most of those games are still about $60 AU. Mannnnnn

Do we get platinum games in the UK?
@17 I must admit I don't like the packaging either. reminds me of the platinum games on the ps1, which I never liked. plus its an excuse for the game shop to give you half as much when you trade it in.

Just a fyi, at Best Buy a few weeks ago I saw the CE Saint's Row 2 for $20 and the regular at $30, so I have afeeling that Saint's Row 2 will be at $20.

@17 Finally someone who understands!! It seems to says: "I was too cheap or uninterested beforehand and I have no taste in gaming." That's why I'm having a hard time finding a good looking copy of Bioshock...I refuse to buy the Platinum Hit version.

Wow, and not to mention you'll have to spend $60 anyways on Force Unleashed: Sith Edition, Left 4 Dead 2, and Super Street Fighter 4. Goes to show that list just blows right off the bat, and if you didn't buy any of those games when they first came out then you're REALLY looking to penny pinch because some of those were the best games of '08.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
